Chapter 26: "Please don't leave me!"

I wake up, the sun shining through the blinds, Zach lying on my chest, i kiss him gently on his nose. I smile like an idiot just staring at his beautiful face.

"Stop staring!" Zach groans

I hide my laugher and look at the dull white walls, they're so boring, so ugly, so ugh!

"Stop frowning!"

"Why are you so moody this fine morning?" I ask through giggles

Zach just sighs and sits up.

"What's wrong?"

Zach's about to talk but gets interrupted as Ma walks in.

"Morning El- Zach?! What are you doing here?" She asks in a surprised tone

"He brought me some chocolates." I answer for him

Zach just nods.

"You can go now Zach." I say sweetly

"No! I'm not leaving you."

"Zach, I'd love to spend some time with my granddaughter please." Ma says giving him a pleading look.

Zach just pouts and looks at me.

"I'll be fine, take a shower, eat something and take a nap. I'll see you later." I assure him.

"I'll be back soon." He says, pecking me on my lips lightly

He then gets up, puts on his shoes, and gives me one last look before walking out the room.

"He loves you so much." Ma says taking my hands in hers

"I know."

"Do you like it?." Aria asks, referring to the bracelet she had made for me.

"I love it! Thank you so much."

Aria just giggles, then stops. A sad look on her face.

"Are you eating?" She asks quietly

"Here and there."

She nods.

"Hey! Don't worry too bmuch, okay?"

"Okay."

"You know... I've really been craving that chocolate ice cream they got downstairs. Wanna get us some?"

"Sure."

Aria skips out of the room.

I smile at how whenever she's happy she skips, just like mom. I miss you mom.

I suddenly feel out of breath, i look around and see all the windows are closed. Who closes all the windows?! Ugh! I carefully stand up and struggle to walk, but eventually reach one of the windows and open it up. Ahhhh! Fresh air. I forgot what it felt like. I smile. I see the sky, the sun, the trees, the mountains. It's so beautiful. Life is beautiful. We never seem to realize that, to appreciate that, we're so fortunate, so blessed to live.

Aria's pov

The line was so long, but i finally got Elle some chocolate ice cream. Chocolate is her favorite, it was mom's favorite too. I miss you mom.

I jog up the stairs to Elle's room.

"I got your choc- Elle!!"

"Maaaaa! Maaaa! Somebody!!"

I fall to my knees, dropping the chocolate ice cream. My body becomes numb as i watch my sister's body lying on the floor, her body shaking. Another seizure. I feel my tears running down.

Ma runs in, along with some nurses. I watch as they try to help Elle until her body stops. I search for the emotion in their eyes, but there's nothing. She's gone.

Zach's pov

"I'll drive." Kayla says, grabbing her car keys from the coffee table

"Elle will be so happy to see you."

"Let's go then." Kayla says, a big smile on her face

"I'll lock up, you start the car in the meantime."

She nods and walks out the house. I grab a apple from the kitchen and walk out the house, locking the front door.

Making my way to the driveway, my phone rings in my pocket. Ma? Why's she calling? I hope everything's okay.

"Hel-"

"Zach! It's Elle." Ma sobs on the other side of the phone.

"W-w-what happened?!"

She hung up! Fuck!

I run and jump into the car.

"Everything okay?!" Kayla asks, worried.

"Just drive! Please."

Once we reach the hospital, i abandon Kayla and run towards Elle's room, i run in and see Ma and Aria crying besides her bed. I see Elle lying on the bed, her eyes closed, her skin pale.

"No. No. No!" I repeat running to her side.

"Elle! Please wake up! Elle! No! You can't leave me!"

I feel arms trying to comfort me. Kayla.

"Please don't leave me!" I scream through the crying.

"Please don't leave me. Please don't leave me. Please don't leave me." I repeat, not letting go of Elle's hands, her cold hands.

She's gone. What do i do now? Im lost! I just wanna see her smile one last time. Please. I need her.

Elle passed away 25th June at 2:32AM during a seizure.

Kayla and i arrive at the church, i spot ma speaking to the priest, Aria putting flowers by Elle's coffin. I don't wanna intervene so i seat myself down until the ceremony starts.

"Receive the Lord's blessing. The lord bless you and watch over you. The lord make his face shine upon you, and be gracious to you. The lord look kindly on you and give you peace. Amen." The priest's speaks

"Amen" Everybody says together

"Would anybody like to say a few words?" The priest's asks

Ma stands up and walks to the front, tears running down her cheeks. She wipes her cheeks and takes a deep breath before speaking.

"We're all gathered here today on behalf of... of my granddaughter Isabelle."

She stops for a bit then talks again

"Isabelle was a very loving child, she cared for others more than she cared for herself. She loved so openly and deeply. She fought everyday, even whilst struggling. She was a warrior, a warrior indeed. You can now rest in peace my child. You'll be missed."

Once she's done, she sits down and Aria walks to the front.

Her eyes search around the church until they land on me, then she nods, indicating for me to come up.

I can't. I'm not strong enough.

"Go Zach." Kayla says holding my hand

"Only if you come with me."

Kayla nods and we walk to the front, to Aria. She needs us.

"I can't Zach. Im sorry." Aria whispers through hiccups, her eyes bloodshot red

"I'll take her to get some water." Kayla says walking away with Aria leaving me alone infront of a whole crowd.

I hesitate for a while but then quickly take a deep breath and speak.

"If she were here right now, she'd say 'it's okay. Everything's gonna be okay.' She had a beautiful soul, a beautiful heart, everything about her was beautiful. Her eyes, her smile, gosh she was perfect. I never thought that I'd love someone the way i loved her. I'll miss you Isabelle Davis. Thank you for everything. For teaching me how to live, to love and laugh. Thank you. Rest now."

Aria's pov

The past two days hasn't been easy, waking up knowing that i won't see Elle's face, her beautiful smile and her sweet voice. I wish this was just one big nightmare and I'd wake up from it and see Elle, but this is reality. She's gone. She's at peace. She's with mom.

After the funeral ceremony, i had given everyone's envelope just like i promised Elle. Im still in shock but today im gonna open my envelope.

Here i lie on Elle's bed, in one of her oversized hoodies. She was right, they really are comfortable. I trace my finger over her handwriting before reading it.

I find myself smiling at her letter.

"i promise." i whisper holding the letter to my chest

The house feels so empty without her, my heart yearns to see her, to hear her, to hold her, just once more.

I sit on the sofa where she'd always sit, i think it's time i open up the envelope. I take a deep breath and read.

Since Elle passed away, Zach just stopped talking, he refuses too. He's scared. He's broken. He's suffering.

I grab the envelope Aria had given me and walk outside, i sit on the grass and let the  warm breeze kiss my skin.

The Front door bangs closed and Zach walks out towards his car, barely looking at me.

"Where are you going?"

"I'll be back after sunset." He replies bluntly before getting into his car and speeding off to who knows where.

I sigh and look at the envelope lying on the grass infront of me, i eventually open it and read it.

I look up at the sky and smile

I sit on the edge of the cliff and close my eyes. This is where we'd sit, this is where we'd cry, laugh and just talk for hours. I open my eyes and see the sun setting. It's not the same. The sunset was more beautiful with her by my side. Life isn't life without her.

I reach for the envelope in my jacket pocket and stare at it for a while before reading it.
