Facts about the Beastman Realm of Cherwind

I. The Beastman Realm of Cherwind

The realm of the Beastmen, Cherwind, is a raw, and pure land. Wild monsters still roam around, which can wreak widespread devastation in hordes. Beastmen tribes exist in several places, and can cooperate with each other according to their needs. However, no unified government was ever established.

Technology is on primitive levels, with most beastmen preferring to focus on training for hunting instead of learning to read and write. In warfare, the Beastmen would rather face their enemies in the battlefield using their physical prowess, rather than use armor and sophisticated weapons to their advantage.

Beastmen society stresses the importance of faithfulness to one's master, or liege. So much is their focus on this aspect that the phrase 'Beastman loyalty' became synonymous to undying loyalty. The concept of marriage is non-existent, and beastfolk would only swear fidelity to their partners for the duration of their 'mating season'.

It was the situation when the first humans to permanently settle in Cherwind established the first colony, Telessaria.

II. Locations

The Cauldron

-The Cauldron is the 'most holy place' in all of Cherwind. It is an extinct island volcano with a wide caldera at the summit, where the Beastman Saint's cave-palace is located. According to Beastmen legends, this was where the greatest beastman hero, Lady Terebia of the Bow, ascended to heaven when she was ready to give up her mortal life.

The island of the cave-palace (at the middle of the caldera) is uninhabited, save for the Saint's guards and the Saint herself. The area surrounding the caldera is populated by the Canus Fox tribesmen, which swore everlasting loyalty to the Saint. And the sea surrounding the island volcano was home to the fierce Isidus Shark Tribes.

The Enclave

-The largest concentration of human population in Cherwind, the Enclave was a territory under the confederation of human colonies that banded together to survive the harsh environment of the land. It was under the rule of the Lord of Malvette, usually a Duke or Duchess, which was elected once the previous lord died.

The name came from the walls that formed the human defenses against the monster hordes, as well as hostile beastmen tribes, that was outside the Enclave. The first (Outer) wall was built after the infamous massacre of Telessaria, while the second (inner) was erected as a fallback option once the outer wall fell.

The Enclave's economy is closely tied to the kingdom of Nerfes, which had sent the most number of colonists in the territory. Caravans would always ply the dangerous route from the Cherwind-Chersea border crossing, to the Enclave itself, and vice-versa, to bring in fresh commodities, and new settlers.

III. Miscellaneous

The Treaty of Telessaria

-an old treaty of 'Friendship' between the Beastmen tribes of Cherwind, and the Human settlers of Telessaria, this document outlines the boundaries of human claims to the beastman lands, as well as the code of conduct of the two signatories. After the massacre of Telessaria, the treaty was applied to the territories inhabited by humans.
