Father's Diary

Susana went inside the home improvement store and went directly towards the kitchen section. She picked up a knife and checked its sharpness. She held it in front of her as her mirror image got reflected in its silver face.

Then she walked towards the cashier.

The cashier, who is an aging inquisitive woman, looked at her with suspicious eyes.

"Do you want this gift wrap?" She asked. Her face had some flat affect that doesn't change with the rise and fall of intonation.

Susana smiled. "As a matter of fact, no. Just wrap it with kraft paper so I could place it inside my bag."

The cashier just stared at her. "Preparing something?" The cashier asked as she held the sharp kitchen knife in front of Susana.

"No," Susana replied.

"Hmm...this can cut through the skin...so be very careful. I used one of these to cut a chicken's neck. Have you cut a chicken's neck before?"

"No. I don't want to try. Sorry."
