Alec drove in silence as he and Jet went to work. The younger man had managed to calm down a lot than he had been after talking to Alice. But the older Slade knew he still needed more time for things to sink in. 

If he forced any conversation at the moment, his younger partner would surely snap at him.

With a sigh, Alec looked out the road. Everything was as normal as it always was. The streets littered with people going out and about their own businesses. The world was never in a standstill. Alec knew that—it was ingrained in him ever since he was young.

His parents were rarely home, making him and Alice closer than normal siblings. They've never even had an argument with each other because all they had was the other one. Sure, they had a nanny, a chef that cooked them whatever they wanted, and people who came and go to deliver presents and such.
