Chapter 16.1 What's Going On?

Rachel POV*

I just can't stand him, ever since they first met he hasn't left him alone for a single moment. Who does he think he is, taking my best friend from me.

I woke up early that day like always, and quickly grab all my school stuff and make my way over to across the street, to his house.

As soon as I wanted to ring the bell, the door opens "oh, Hey Rachel"

As the door opened I expected Adam to open, but I was met by his mother. "Oh, Hi... I-is Adam not here?" I ask confused.

"Oh I'm sorry but he already left.." she said, "he did?" I ask confused. Why would he leave without me?

"Thanks, guess ill go alone then" I smiled and waved goodbye and made my way to the bus stop, still not sure why he left, isn't it a bit too early to go to school.

I walked into school, feeling a bit irritated because he didn't tell me he left. It got worse when I saw him walking towards the lockers, again with that same guy. I follow them to their seat and take a seat next to him.

"Hello!" I say loudly as I park myself next to him. "Whoa! Where did you come from" Adam asked surprised?

"What? I can't sit here?" I ask. "I didn't say that... you just surprised me, that's all"

I smile as I turn myself to face Nathan, sitting in front of us. "You're here too I see"

"Yeah.." he answered looking confused. Suddenly the bell rang, as I saw my chance and took Adam with me. "Wait what are you?" He asked confused. "We need to talk".

We sat down in our assigned seats right before class started. "Did you really need to take me with you like that earlier" he complained.

"Why did you leave without me," I ask disappointed, "I thought we always went to school together."

"Well, yeah... I uh- I forgot." He shrugged. "You...forgot" It was obviously an excuse, but I let it go "well fine, just- don't forget next time" He nodded and class started.

After what felt like forever, the bell finally rang and it was time for food.

"Hey, do you still have access to that classroom," I ask, hoping we could eat our lunch there.

"Hm? Yeah, I do?" He says, not sure what I meant. "Well let's go!" I get up excitedly and we make our way over to the room.

As soon as we go in, I realize the tables we're moved since the last time I was here. Don't tell me-

"Hey, Adam?" He looked back "did you go in here with someone?" I ask. "Yeah,.. why?" As soon as I saw his face it was obvious who it was. "It just looks different.." I sigh as I go in to take a seat at the table.

After lunch, we both make our way over to the classroom again, as we get to the hallway, I notice Nathan behind us, coming this way. I quickly pull Adam with me, to get there faster.

I look back to see Nathan looking at me confused.

He's being to close to him lately.

And I don't like it. Just what is it he's trying to do.

"You go on ahead, I forgot something in my locker," Adam said as the bell rang. "Oh.. okay" he turned around and made his way back inside.

He said to go ahead, so I started walking towards the canine to claim our usual table.

But after about 10 minutes of waiting, it got a little suspicious. Why is he not back yet, he only had to go get something back.

Irritated I went back to see if he was still at his locker. Cause, you know, maybe he did forget something, or he had trouble opening his locker.

I really hoped that would be the case. But as soon as I got back and stood next to his locker, I realized he wasn't telling me something.

----

I went around looking for him. I went to the classroom to look, but when I looked around it was empty as expected.

"Uhm.. what are you doing" I heard a voice from behind me. As I turn around, I saw one of Nathans friends behind me. What was his name again? Dave? Dan- Daniel!

"Looking for my friend," I answered, looking up at him. "What are you doing?" I ask back.

"I just came back because I forgot something in class. And then I saw you blocking the only way in" he said gesturing to the door. I looked behind me and moved to the side. "I'm sorry," I said quickly as I moved out of the way so he could pass.

I watched him walk in and grab something off a desk. He walked back out, closing the door behind him. He gave me a quick smile before he started to walk away again, but I grabbed him and stopped him.

"hold on, you know Nathan right?" I asked. He turned around and looked at me slightly confused. "I do, why?" I let go of his arm and took a step backward. "do you have an idea where the is?" I ask awkwardly.

He sighed lightly, thinking for a second before answering. "Not exactly, he just runs off every break. None of us know where he goes," he explains. "But I'm guessing it has something to do with Adam" he added. I looked up suddenly.

"what do you mean?" I ask curiously. "They are almost inseparable lately." he shrugged. I thought about it for a second. So it's not just me. "I'm sorry I can't help." Daniel apologized. I shook my head. "It's fine, I guess I'll just look for them myself." he nodded. "If I do run into them I'll them you're looking for them," he said before walking away.

I stood there for a bit, before deciding to walk around, thinking of any place they could be. Nothing came to mind, as far as I knew the only place Adam would be in breaks would be, well, with me. I wouldn't know where he'd go with someone else.

I walked around a bit more, then hallways slowly got emptier. Students we're usually scattered all around the school, but this part seemed to be pretty empty.

I was about to give up and just make my way towards the canine to quickly get some food before the break was over when I suddenly spotted the lights on in a nearby classroom. Weird, I could've sworn nobody had used that room in at least a year, it's mostly storage.

My curiosity got the better of me and I decided to look inside, expecting a teacher or janitor, but I didn't see anyone. I looked around a bit closer and noticed a familiar bag on a bunch of tables in the corner. Found you.

"Adam are you in-" I started as I opened the door completely and walked. But I was not expecting what I found. I walked in and found Adam, but also Nathan, in the corner of the room. Their faces just inches apart. We're they-

"what is happening," I asked shocked. Nathan quickly took a step backward and they both stared at me. "R-Rachel, what are you-" Adam said, but I interrupted him. "I came looking for you. But I guess you were busy?" I questioned as walked in. "I-"

"you don't have to explain yourself." I cut him off again. "well you do, but you can do that later." I had a feeling I knew exactly what was going on here. And if it was, I didn't like it.

Nathan walked over to the table, putting his face in his hands, Adam and I both walked over, I took a seat next to Nathan as he complained. "are you kidding me"

"what do you mean?" I asked innocently. "it's Nothing" Adam answered nervously as he took a seat in front of me. "so, what exactly just happened?" I asked leaning into Nathan, who was still in the same position.

"You interrupted us?" He answered, lifting his head to make eye contact. I don't like where this is going. "yeah I know that, but what did I interrupt?" I pushed, hoping the answer wouldn't be what I was thinking. "That-" Adam tried to answer but got interrupted. "It's none of your business. Nathan said as he sat up straight, pushing me off of him.

"what," I asked, getting slightly angry. "It's something. Between Adam and me." He shot back "You don't need to know every detail of his life!" jeez, where did that come from. I really did interrupt something important. "I never said that-" I defended.

"Rachel.. I'll explain it tonight." Adam started "Please just... Ignore it for now?" he smiled, looking slightly sad by everything that is happening. I sighed "Okay fine, I. Say as I got up. "But you better have a good explanation for this," I say more to Nathan, why did he snap like that. I got up and left the classroom.
