Chapter 30: Aftermath

Together, Toru, Boru, and Halu hoisted Avery down to the dungeons in order to see his parents for the last and final time.

"Son, thank you," His father in tears hugged his son closely, staining his purple robe from his son's bloodied wounds.

"Where is a surgeon? He is terribly wounded," The Queen exclaimed.

"Halu left as soon as we had come down in the dungeons to seek if there is one surviving. I fear we are too late," Toru answered, choking back tears.

"Avery, Oh Avery," Princess Sasha entered the room and knelt down to where the hero was lying, straining to breathe. He looked up into her eyes with the most sincere expression of love and grabbed her hand tightly. "I love you, Sasha. Not even my death can change that." His body hurt badly to speak, but he had forced these words out with all his might.

"No, you will live. I love you with all my heart. Surely we will be together. We need more time," Wept Sasha clinging to him.

"I fear my heart was pierced, my love. I do not have time," Avery whispered, stretching out his bleeding hand to run it through the lovely Princesse's golden locks.

"Please, Oh Avery don't go. Why? Why did you have to die?"

Struggling to keep his eyes open, the Prince of Cravon uttered these last words in his dying breath: "I did it for you." After this, his eyes closed and he breathed no more.

Years later after the King and Queen passed, the kingdom of Cravon was given to the mighty leader Toru, to reign as king since the previous ruler had no other sons. Under his wisdom, the kingdom prospered and saw the best eras of its history. Toru was written down in the books of Cravonion history as the greatest and wisest king who ever lived. Princess Sasha resided with the king and served as his chief planner and adviser. Halu and Boru both were made governors of certain areas of the kingdom and owned many large estates with their wives and children.

The grieved Princess remained a spinster and never married after the loss of her true love; She remained in sorrow for the rest of her days and died young of a broken heart one year later. She was buried alongside Avery where a large, golden statue of them holding hands was built to honor his rule. Even though Avery had died young, his love for Sasha remained as a reminder to the kingdom of Cravon and was hallowed as the most pure and genuine love there ever was on the face of the earth; As his sacrifice for the people of Cravon was celebrated annually.

The End.
