Autumn and Rain

Isobel was laying on her couch rubbing circles on the backrest. She was glad that her mother didn't buy a leather one. Leather couches smell a bit funny after some time and they are not very good at giving air to the back. Also, sometimes they make word squeaky nieces when you sit in it which can be very funny or very embarrassing. Isobel continued to rub circles, the fabric beneath her palm was providing friction which was causing it to warm up and provide a scratching feeling. She loved the way it felt.

Sighing she turned towards the TV. It was boring. The channel, five dust was showing another one of sappy corny drama and it was Megachord on the music channel as it marked the 117th year of the band. She loved Megachord, she really did, it was a crime not to love Megachord in Merceville but there was a limit to the number of times a person could listen to different versions of the song, 'Master of the high street'.

It was coming down in stair rods outside so she couldn't go out. She was stuck inside the house on the first day of the autumn break. The break was already short. Why did it rain like there was no tomorrow on the first day? The harsh patter of the rain on the roof and the ground area outside was muffled by the heavy doors and windows and for the rest, the telly was trying to do its best to drown it with the fake applause that rang from time to time on the show.

When Isobel was young she would stand in the rain and let it drench her and her dad from top to bottom. It felt so cold against her flushed skin from laughing. Her dad used to spin her around in the air. A smile crept on her face remembering the times but it slipped away as well. It went away though, just like her dad did. The rain wasn't quite like the pond, the rain made her feel more empty than just remembering about the time. The downpour reminded of the time when they were lowering her father's casket and it started pouring. It made her heart squeeze in pain. That was the reason why she had never willingly gone out while it was drizzling. It was happy but it was sad and it washes everything away with itself just like her dad.

In the autumn break, Isobel was actually going to spend her time with her mum. They had made a to-do list for the things they were going to do together. Given that the to-do list had eaten cookie batter three times on it, it was still perfect. Then her work was called in. She had to leave for the business deal on the other side of the country and it was going to take the whole break.

Evianna had, of course, begged them to reconsider but they really needed her and it was a million-dollar deal. In the end, she had to go but she promised that she would bring her chocolates. This has made her push her mother out of the door as if that would give her chocolates faster.

Her mother has been calling her for both nights she has been gone and they talked about everything and nothing. Literally everything and nothing. Last night she had talked about the dog of the receptionist in the building. How her mother knew about the pomeranian was beyond her. Evianna had also refused to tell her to know as to how she found out.

Again there was the metallic taste of the blood in her mouth. Isobel sighed and kept on rubbing circles on the couch. She kept the remote down and pocketed her phone. Within moments she squeezed through the passage to the spaceship. It was time for another mission. Yay!

The moment she was teleported on the pathway she sluggishly started walking. She was tired and had no energy. Just after a second, Jayden came through. He was covered in flour. She put her hands in front of her and whined like a child. This made Jayden roll his eyes.

"You are one lazy bastard," he said huffing and she shrugged in response. That was just about how much he knew he was going to get. He picked her up in a piggy ride and supported her by keeping a firm hold on her thighs. Isobel laid her head on Jayden's shoulder and her eyes kept on the swirling golden and green pattern on the wall which looked like vines. She always liked the glowing ley lines pulsating softly on the pristine white walls. It was calming, she thought, sighing.

Sooner than she wanted they were standing in front of the tube room with Alasdair waiting for them in his always pressed clean clothes and his shiny dress shoes. Alasdair didn't even question why she was so drained and why Jayden was carrying her. He just smiled warmly and led them inside.

Isobel slid down the back and stood up slightly hunched. She fished for her cell in her pocket and handed it to Alasdair. He looked at her with his eyebrows furrowed and his face drawn in a silent question.

"My mum will contact me tonight. If I were you, I'd try to think of a supplement," she said, handing it to him. He gladly took the phone and put it in his suit blazer pocket.

"The password is-" Isobel started but was cut off by Alasdair.

"I don't need it, I can easily open it without that."

Isobel scoffed. "You could have at least tried to act like I had some privacy." She barked in indignation.

"Privacy is an illusion. They know everything. The thing even you don't know. They even know about how many times you have read yaoi manga last week and I'm not talking about us. I'm talking about your service provider." he said nonchalantly.

It was not like she was unaware but it still made her feel creeped out about the data they possessed on everyone. She just sneered slightly but didn't make any biting remark. She simply walked into the tube and stood on the hovering circular board and awaited the squeezing stretching sensation. And when the sensation came-

She simply readied her for her next mission to come.

The next world to save.
