As we were walking out of the twoleg place, I looked back sadly at the poor old cat. He looked like he was half starving and his place that he lived at looked as if he had not been there in weeks. He still looked a slight bit like he was a kittypet though.
Maybe his owners had left him, much like they did with me... I shook my head not wanting to think back on those times, I was happy where I was at right now... Mint was not the only cat that I loved, I will hate to see Kettle and Oister head over to their own clan.
I wish they would not, but I could already tell... They wanted to be a part of Riverclan. I would happily take Kettle as their leader as well, he was always good to have at my side. I looked at Kettle, him and Oister were talking but I could not catch a single word of what they might be saying.
Then I looked at Mint, she looked a bit sad and I figured that I should cheer my mate up. I walked over to her and nudged her to make her feel a bit better. It worked like a charm, as it usually did. She loved having me by her side, and to her the same as well.
"Hey Mint... You are not too blame for slowing us down. A lot of this was my own fault, I should have been paying attention that day you were nearly killed." I said to Mint. When I said it though, it only seemed to make things a slight bit worse for her.
I nudged up against her once again to try and make her feel better, but this time it did not work all that well. She still had a bit of a sad look on her face as if she was blaming herself. I thought to myself, maybe sometimes I should just keep my mouth shut.
"No... Moon, this is my fault. I can admit that some days you do push me a bit too hard... But I should have been paying attention that day." Mint said to me. I looked at her a bit sadly, at least she admitted that she was at least a slight bit exhausted.
It maybe me feel a bit better, but also a bit worse at myself for it. Oister always gave me that look everytime I said we should keep going when Mint looked so tired. Kettle did not say anything, sometimes I wondered if he even realized what was going on around him.
"Mint... I am sorry, I hope it makes you feel better that we are near the end... At least the end of the beginning, I still have to remake the clans." I said to Mint. She looked at me and then she nodded, but I could tell she still looked like she was not all that sure.
I kept on walking, we were walking into Thunderclan territory now, even though I should not be worried about it, there was no scents so clearly no cats had been around that area in a long time... But still I looked around wondering if I should really be going into another clans territory.
I heard Oister cough and I looked over at her, it sounded like the same cough that I had heard the kits cough that night I had found them in that dream. I looked at her a slight bit worried, but Limp was faster to her side to make sure that she was okay.
I knew Oister was not a cat to lie, and right away she said to us that she was not okay. So we all stopped for a few moments so that she could get back on her feet. I looked at Mint who still had her head sagged to the ground, she noticed me looking at her and she shook her head at me.
"Moon... This is my fault, I am not a little kit, I am your mate... I have to make my own decisions, it just happens to be that, that day I made the wrong one." She said to me. I looked at her, she was right... Sometimes I did treat her more like by kit than her mate.
Either way, I still did love her and I made sure that she knew that. She was always a happy cat, she always managed to make all of the cats around her feel better. This last moon she was just not catching that same sort of energy that she usually had and I could tell.
"We both made mistakes that day... I am just happy that Jayfeather saved us. Not just yoy, I don't know where I would be at if he had not saved you that day... I could have not made it far alone." I said to her. She looked at me, and for the first time in a while I managed to get a small little smile from her.
I heard Oister cough again, I looked over to see if she was okay. But then I saw what it was, she was not good. Kettle was freaking at and Limp was trying to keep him calm. I saw the blood sitting on the ground though, Oister was not good.
I did not know what kind of sickness it might be, but I knew some things that might be able to stop the bleeding until we can find out an actual remedy. I looked at her, the kits must be having it a lot worse right now.
They were young, Oister was too but she was a good 12 moons older than the kits... Her immune system would be stronger than theirs. I walked over to see what it might be, but I could not tell, Jayfeather had not told me anything about cats coughing out blood.
All he had really taught me with the short bit of time we had together was simple things, and I was not the best at remembering them, they seemed a bit boring and useless to me, even though I had already come to find that they were not.
I did my best to make everyone else calm and after a few moments Kettles freakout managed to simmer down. Oister was looking at Kettle a bit sadly but I was thinking in my head what the best medicine was to treat a cough.
I moved closer to Limp, she seemed to want to learn a lot about medicines so I figured that I out the teach her something. Kettle looked at me and he began talking in a bit of an upset tone, just not really aimed at me.
"Do something to help now! My mate is not going to die in my paw tonight..." Kettle said to me. Right as he said it to me, what I was thinking for the medicine instantly seemed to click in my head. I knew what it was as soon as he said that for some reason.
I was looking to the starclan cats to help me, but it seemed like they were not answering any of my prayers anymore, it had been quite a long time since I had seen from any of them. They had told me that I would have to find out the rest of this quest myself I suppose...
I remembered what it was though, I moved around a little bit wanting to look a bit happy but I knew that now was not the best time for that. I then looked at Limp and then nodded to her to try and teach her about some things.
"Do you know what tansy is? We need to find some to help Oister with her cough, until I can figure out what is really going on." I said to Limp. She looked at me for a few moments and then sadly she shook her head at me.
I had been told what they looked like but I had never actually seen one so I was hoping that maybe Limp might have heard of them or seen it before. But that hope crashed as soon as I even thought about it.
"No... I have heard about them though, aren't they like a weird yellow flower?" Limp asked me. I looked at her for a few moments and tried to remember if that was what I had heard from Jayfeather. I then nodded to Limp and she smiled at me.
"Can you 2 hurry up? My mate is about to die..." Kettle said to us. I looked over at him for a few moments, I could see the fear in his eyes, the exact same fear that I would have if Mint was in the same position as her. Well I suppose she was before.
"Kettle, calm down... Let them collect their thoughts, I am not about to die, you are going to get some of that tansy stuff isn't that right Moon?" Oister said to me. I looked at her, for a few seconds I was going to tell them that I was not all that sure if it would help her that much.
It probably would slow it down, but I was not sure if it would cure her... I had never seen a cough that spit out blood before, besides the other night in my dream. I tried telling the cats about tansy, I tried telling them that I would be on my way to help them, but there was not enough time for that.
"Lets go Limp..." I said to Limp. She looked at me and then she nodded, once we were a bit further away from the others I then began talking to Limp once again. "I heard what it looks like, but I am not too sure what it actually looks like... I need your help, I don't know if Oister will be okay, I did not learn anything about what she has."
Limp looked at me for a few moments, I could tell that she was also a bit scared to be under so much pressure. But after a few moments she managed to regain her balance and then she nodded. I nodded back to her and then told her what she needed to know.
"I have this Moon, trust me... If you trust me then I can trust myself." Limp said to me. I looked at her and then I nodded, I did not like to hear the sound of that, but I would do my best to show that I trusted her. Surely all prophecies come to a reality right? We can't just lose all that we have.
I looked over at Limp, and we kept on walking, I then remembered what it was that I was going to tell her, I know she had heard of Tansy before but much like me she had said she had never actually seen one before, or maybe we had and I was not paying attention.
"The tansy, it looks like a circular yellow flower." I said to Limp to make sure that she knew what we were looking out for. Just as soon as I said it to her she then looked back over to me and then she shook her head at me which confused me a bit.
"You should have told me that before... There is some tansy right near the woods." She said to me. I looked at her a slight bit surprised that she had that good of a memory but then I nodded to her and let her lead the way back to where the others were at.
I knew there were around the edges of the woods, but I had not realized they were right beside us the whole time. We started at a bit of a slower walk, but then we began to speed up as we realized that every second might matter, even though Oister did not look like she was in that bad of shape.
Right as we got back, Kettle looked at us a bit surprised to see us back so soon, I saw Oister lift her head up, she must have been trying to catch a little bit of sleep, I had forgot that all of us had not slept well the last night and I was beginning to feel it.
"Where is the tansy you guys said you were getting." Kettle said, looking a bit frustrated that he could not see us carrying anything. I did not blame him, he was worried about his mate, I nodded to him and let Limp take the way because I did not know where the tansy was at.
"Limp said she knew where some were at near this area." I said to Kettle. Kettle looked at Limp to make sure she knew what she was talking about, Limp nodded at him making him feel at least a slight bit better, but I could he was still not too sure.
Limp kept on guiding me to where the tansy must be at. Kettle looked as if he was about to follow us, but then he realized that he could not leave his mate alone, even if Mint was hear, she was in no shape to take care of her.
"Well please hurry... I can not take much longer knowing my mate is in trouble." Kettle yelled to us. Limp looked back at him and then nodded to him one last time as we got a bit further from them to where we could no longer see each other.
Limp then stopped on her place, I looked at her a bit confused and scared at the same time, was there something nearby, a dog maybe? But then I saw the reason that Limp had stopped, she was smiling. I saw the tansy, it looked just like Jayfeather head told me it would.
"That's the tansy we are looking for, help me get a couple of pieces just in case we need more." Limp said to me. She was taking over just like a true medicine cat was and I was proud of her, even with me being the leader, I was happy to let other cats make decisions for their own.
It might bite me in the butt further down the line, being the leader and all, as well as having kits. I shrugged and then me and Limp began picking up the tansy flowers. Limp then nodded as a way of saying that we had enough and then we turned back to where the others were at.
I did not realize how close we were to them, it did not take but a few moments for us to bump back into them. Kettle looked at us and smiled as he saw that we had the tansy with us. He then walked over to wake up Oister, she looked a bit upset that she only managed to get a few moments of rest but then the frown disappeared when she saw us back with the tansy.
I then took the lead, making sure that Limp was listening to what I was saying to her mainly but also to Oister who was receiving the medicine.
"Oister, you need to take the tansy and eat it, it might not taste good but I promise it will make you feel better until I can find an actual cure to what it is that you might have." I said to Oister and then looked over to Limp to make sure she was paying attention.
I let Limp bring her piece of tansy over to Oister, she then mashed them to make it good for Oister to eat. It was something that I had completely forgotten to tell her, but she did it like she was used to being a medicine cat which surprised me a bit.
Oister then happily gulped it up, she looked a bit disgusted as it went into her mouth, but she took it knowing that it would help her in the long run. I looked over to Mint, she was already asleep, I could not blame her because she was still healing but I did want to talk to her.
I walked over to her and put the rest of the tansy beside her in case we needed it for the kits tomorrow, I saw that it was getting dark, and much like the others I did badly want some rest. I layed myself beside her and I heard her begin purring in her sleep and it made me feel a lot better.
I saw Kettle walk over to me, looking at Oister one last time to make sure that she was going to be okay and then he walked up to me and smiled at me. I was tired but I managed to give him a smile back. Then he said something to me.
"Moon... All that you have done for us, I am happy to be here, even if it will take some work to fix all of it... Thank you..."
