Chapter 17: Let us Rest

I looked at the twoleg place, it did not seem real. This is what we had been looking for, for several days now. I couldn't help but crack a little smile, Oister smiled right back at me. We had been through so much, we had lost Limp, I had lost many others, but it seemed like things were finally going our way.

I looked up at the stars, they were beginning to shine, we had gotten here right on time. I thanked them, I almost felt a warm scent from Squirrelflight. She had helped me with so many things, she had thought about giving up, Firestar had told me. But it was her destiny just as much as it was mine.

Oister looked at me a bit confused, but then she nodded when she saw what I was looking at. She too began to smile, I knew that she had gotten to see her mother, and her kits when Starclan and others had come to greet us, she knew they were real, just as much as I did.

I then looked at the twoleg place, we had got here right on time. Otherwise we would have had to find somewhere to stay for the night. Then we would have had to head back in the morning. I knew that Oister did not want that, but it was our only decision.

But we had made it, no need to think back on it at this point. We had made it, at least to the twoleg place, finding the cats would be a whole different story. I did not want to think to deep on that quite yet, we just needed to find a place to sleep for the night.

I looked over at Oister to give her my full attention. Once she realized that I was waiting for her to pay attention to me. She nodded to me, waiting for me to begin speaking.

"Oister, let's climb the fences, try to find a place to lay our heads for the night." I said to her. She looked at me for a few moments a bit surprised. I knew what her thoughts were going to be on this already. She had not seen the kits, if she even knew what they were going through.

"What about the kits, every moment matters, surely right? You wouldn't want to do this to Limp..." She said to me. I winced when she said the name Limp, it was a sore subject that I did not want to get into right now. I looked at her and tried my best not to get upset at the words that she had just spoken to me.

"Limp isn't here anymore... So it does not matter. We need sleep, twoleg places can be dangerous." I responded back to her. She looked at me for a few moments, I could tell that she did not believe it. She knew that I was the leader though, she nodded her head at me anyways.

Sure, maybe I was making a bad decision. But I was exhausted, today had been a bit of a ride, just not a fun ride. Limp had hurt me, and I just wanted to sleep and not think on it too deeply. It would not surprise me if one of the starclan cats came into my dream and told me to bring her back.

But I had to make a tough decision, it was either Limp or the kits. Limps words had hurt me. I could tell that it hurt all of us, besides Kettle maybe, he seemed to not have any sort of emotion at what she had said. I knew that is why Oister was trying to get into my head as well.

"Alright Moon... I don't think you are making the right decision. I am just as tired as you, maybe Starclan will come into your dreams tonight and help you." She said to me. I looked at her and then I nodded, she was right, I had not even thought about it like that.

I would tell that Oister was in a lot of pain, I could tell that it was getting worse and worse day by day. One of these days it might be too late, I don't think Kettle would forgive me for it if we lost her. I don't think that I could even forgive myself for it.

"Thank you Oister, now lets hop over that fence, and find somewhere to stay the night." I said to her. She looked at me for a few moments, and then she nodded to me. I nodded back, and then we began heading over to the fence of the twoleg place.

We stood there for a few moments, both her and I knew that this could be the end of our path. Once we found them, and we talked to the cat named Youngtail, this could be the beginning of our end. Not in a bad way, but hopefully in a good way.

"I'm afraid Moon, I don't want to let my mate down. I did not want to go with you at first, but I now know that this was the path I was destined on. I try my best to look strong, but I am not." She said to me. I looked at her a bit surprised. I always thought that at a lot of times she was stronger than the rest of us.

I was surprised to hear her opening up to me like this. I was not even sure that she had done it to Kettle. Or maybe he already knew, it was none of my business. I looked at her for a few moments and then I nodded. She began purring at me, thanking me for understanding.

"Do not worry Oister, stay strong. Mint needs you, she looks up to you. Let's just keep going, I will save you." I said back to her. It was a bit bland, but I did not know what else to say to her. I was so surprised, I just did not want to say that to Mint, because Mint looked for her to keep her faith strong.

"Thank you Moon... I love you, not as a mate. I am happy that we found you that day, this is what we needed." She said to me. I looked at her for a few moments, then I smiled at her and then I nodded.

To be truthful, I was not sure all she meant by "it was what we needed" but I was just happy to have her by my side. Sometimes I could tell that her mate did not believe in me, but I knew that he knew that I was the leader at the same time. I was happy to have them both, along with Mint, without them I would not have made it far.

I would have happily become a Kittypet, and I was even thinking about staying in Owls barn for the rest of my life. Living a lavish life with him, I stopped myself from doing it, but at one of those points, I would have broken, I would have given up.

It was such a long journey already, at least 3 moons. If I was alone through all of this, I would have stopped, I would have found somewhere to live. I had to thank Stoneteller for that as well, he had helped me keep my head up, when there was not much to keep my head up about.

He lost his favorite cat, one of his best, and his mate. I knew that it hurt him a lot to let them leave. I could see the pain on his face, he always looked to Kettle to help him, and look for his advice, and I knew it, I did not know what he did to deserve it, but I did know that they were both good cats.

"Let's just find somewhere in this twoleg place to rest for the night. We will find them in the morning, I promise you." I said to her. She looked at me for a few moments, this time I could tell that she believed me as she nodded back to me. "You take the first jump, tell me if it is safe." I said to her.

She looked at me for a few more moments, then she nodded to me, but also more to herself. I also wanted her to take the first jump, because I was not sure she could make it, and I wanted to test it out first before I looked across the side.

She moved back a little bit, and I watched her as she then sprinted towards the fence. Once she was close enough, she then hopped as high as she could. I could tell that it was not as high as she normally jumped. I should have thought about looking first and then tearing a dirt hole for her to go through.

But that would have taken a while, and I was so tired already. I just wanted to get some rest for the night. She fell at the top, but she was holding on to it as hard as she could with her paws. I ran over to try and help her but it was no use.

"Oister, just hop down, I'll dig you a path. I don't want you to get hurt!" I said to her. She looked at me for a few moments, and then she shook her head at me. If Kettle found us like this then he would be very upset at me. I should have thought through this a little bit more.

"It's okay Moon... I got this." She said to me. I was not too sure, I could hear her ghasping for breath as she had said it to me. But then slowly she began pulling herself up to the top of the fence. I watched her as she did, I was surprised at how strong she really was. It was something I had never seen from her before.

She then pulled herself up to the top, she then looked at me and smiled. I smiled back at her and then nodded. She then turned around and began looking at what there was in front of us. After a few moments of silence she then turned back to me and then nodded. I waited for her to begin speaking.

"The place in front of us is empty, no monsters either. The fence is all around us, we can stay there for the night. It should be fairly safe." She said to me. I looked at her and then nodded, I was happy that we would have somewhere safe to stay the night, not even the Shadowclan camp seemed safe, but I was so tired that night, I fell asleep anyways.

"Alright Im coming up there." I said to her. She nodded to me and then she waited for me to hop up. I moved back a little like she did, to be fair, the fence was higher than any of the other fences that we had been at. I had not noticed it before and I was proud of her for even making it.

I then began running, once I was close enough, I jumped like she did. I barely made it to the top, I almost slipped like she had. I then looked around at the place that she had talked about. It was just as it had seemed.

I did not smell any dogs nearby, so we should be safe here for the night. I looked at her as she was smiling at me, I then nodded to her, I was happy that we had found a place to be safe at, usually we did not ever have that kind of luck.

I then hopped down into the yard and then waited for her to do the same. I watched as she hopped down, when she landed though she did not land safely as she fell and took a while to get herself back up.

"Are you okay Oister?" I said to her. She looked at me for a few moments, she moved a little bit closer, she limped a little bit like Limp always did when she walked, but for the most part, thankfully she seemed to be alright.

She then nodded to me and then we both looked around at the yard, the grass looked a bit taller than a normal yard, but house seemed to be in decent shape, maybe the owners were just lazy.

I looked over at Oister as she began talking to me.

"This place seems safe... Let us rest."
