Chapter 21: A Toy

I was off, I looked at the fence of the yard that I was just in, I shook my head a bit sadly. I hoped that Oister would be okay, I hoped that Summer would take care of her, if in fact she did pass on. I closed my eyes, not even wanting to think of that being a possibilty.

But the cold truth was out there, even if I did not want to think about it, it very well could happen. I just was not sure why Starclan would not come and help me save them, they needed me, but not only me, they needed Starclan, and it just kept seeming like they were pushing this off as long as possible.

For them, supposedly helping me in my journey, it sure seemed like helping me was quite the opposite of what they were trying to do. I did not understand why, all they had to tell me was the medicine that I needed to save the kits, and to show me were to find them.

But yet, they came into my dreams, but they did not want to help me, and it got me a fair bit upset. I tried my best not to think to deep on it, as I kept on walking down the little sidewalk as the kittypets that used to come to my den liked to call them.

It was very uncomfortable for me to walk on, in fact, when I had first walked into the rogues nest, and when we had ran out of it. My paws had been bleeding from walking on that hard soil. Kettle told me it was normal because I still had not been in the wild long enough.

Maybe he was right, this time it did not hurt as bad as it seemed to last time, so that was a plus. I kept on walking, seeing some monsters fly by, and scaring the day lights out of me at the exact same time.

Every time 1 seemed to pass, it felt like it was coming right at me. But every time, it just kept on walking down the small little path, not nearly as fast as the ones that were in the wild did, those ones were scary, and I hated the day that we had to go by those.

Especially since the dream that I had the night before was of a cat going down on one of those things, and getting absolutely destroyed by one of those monsters. The remnants of her body, flying higher into the sky.

I never understood why Starclan showed me things like that, it was if they wanted me to quit on the journey, and to just give up on fear that something like that would happen. I knew what they always told me, always the same thing, that they were just trying to show me how dangerous things like that were, so I did not take them as some kind of joke.

Sure, fair enough, but now every time I heard one come by, it felt like I was going to end up like that cat. I shivered, and kept on walking, looking down the small little path, looking at the sky, and at the sun, the same path that they had told me to go like before...

Surely that had to be the way to where I was supposed to go right? They had told me of nothing else. My guess was a good as any other cats at this point, I was sure hoping that Summer could have helped me.

She had told me that she had known of the cats being in the twoleg place, but the sad part about it, was that she did not have any clue in her right mind at where they could possibly be. It scared me, I was alone again. Just like I was, that first day out in the wild.

Having slim hopes that I could, and would get out of this. I closed my eyes for a few moments, I knew that I would get out of this, I knew that starclan would not let me down, if I was going on the wrong path right now, they would have told me something about it right?

I heard a monster, this time even closer than the others. It made me open my eyes and look around to see where it could be coming from. And there it was, there was one coming right down the driveway, about to close up shop for the day it seemed, but it was coming right at me!

But it did not seem to see me, either that, or it did not care one bit in the world. I then began running, I knew there was no way I could outrun it, but I could get out of the path surely right?

I sped up, faster than I ever had before, hopping over the fence to another yard, not even giving a care in the world at what might be on the other side, and that might be my downfall sadly enough, but I could not think about it in the exact moment.

I looked above the fence that was ahead of me, not giving a care in the world at what might be in the yard with me. I was just happy that I was safe from the monster that had been coming right at me. But then I heard some footsteps behind me, they did not sound like cat footsteps, or even twoleg footsteps.

I spun around, and saw a dog right behind me, it was not a big dog, but I knew that it was not one to be messed with. Dogs were no joke at all, but I was trapped right now, it was right in front of me, and behind me, was a fence. I was trapped.

The dog was not much bigger than me, I had no choice but to fight it. The dog started barking, a lot for higher pitched than most other dogs, and its tongue came out of its mouth. It was trying to eat me! I jumped at the dog and then scratched down its body.

The dog let out a loud yelp of pain and moved back away from me. I looked at the dog and smiled, I was doing just what Lionblaze had taught me to do in a fight. Except that was what I needed to do with another cat, not a dog.

To be fair though, I did not know how to fight a dog, and this one was not much bigger than a cat in the first place. The dog moved back whimpering a little bit as I could tell it was in a slight bit of pain. Now it knew not to go after me.

The dog looked me right in my eyes, and it began doing something I had never seen from a dog before. I did not even think it could he possible that a dog could do something like this. The dog began talking to me, and I moved back, this time I was the one that was a bit afraid.

"Ow! Why did you do that? I was not going to attack you, I was just wondering why you were in my yard!" The dog said to me. I looked at the dog a bit surprised, I did not know what to say to it in return, I was just so lost on how it could be possibly talking.

I had always thought of dogs like they were monsters. I thought only that they were here, specifically to only kill cats. But it seemed like this dog was a lot different than the others. Or maybe not, maybe the others did talk, they just did not feel like talking to cats.

"How are you talking? I thought dogs couldn't talk? And I'm sorry, all dogs I come across always attack me." I said to the dog. The dog was wiping a little bit of blood off of its nose. But it nodded to me, letting me know that it had heard what I had said to it.

I felt a bit bad for the poor dog, but it gave me quite a scare. I did not know that a dog could ever be like the one that was laying in front of me. I had heard of dogs attacking other cats, and just absolutely tearing them to pieces, maybe I should have thought something different about this one, this one was a bit of a smaller dog.

"Yes... I'm sorry, maybe talking was the first thing I should have done. No... I am the only dog I have come across that can speak, and hear other cats. No need to apologize, it was my fault." The dog said to me, I could tell that the dog was a female dog.

I looked at the dog, a bit with a smile, I was just happy that I was safe. First I had ran from a monster, then I had ran into a dog. I was lucky that this was no normal dog.

"It's okay... Sorry for scratching you. How come you are the only dog that can talk to cats and don't attack us? I have never met a dog like you before..." I said to the dog. The dog looked at me with a little grin, and then he began laughing.

"A lot of dogs like to play with cats like a toy."
