How long is six years without family?

I mean does it or will it ever really matter how many years have gone by without seeing your family?

For six years, she had lived a pretty normal life, a life where the ghosts of her past did not haunt her. For six years she had chosen to hide away rather than face her demons head-on. Maybe because she didn't want to remember what all that had felt like, or maybe she just didn't want the harsh reminder of her failure to see light ever again.

She needed to feel better, but as the days went by, she felt worse than usual. This was not how it was supposed to be, but this was her family we were talking about. the family that had been ripped apart by her life.
