While eating Pizza

"If there's one absolute food that can fulfill the food pyramid, it is Pizza."

"Eh? Pizza? What's that Iwasawa-dono?"

3 days after we moved out of the inn beside the courtesan house, I spoke while thinking about lunch and grinding the medicinal herbs.

"Huh? Oh, sorry. I was talking to my self."

"Never mind that, what's this Pizza that you're talking about?"

She asked as she left her fan on the hallway and crawled inside the living room.

"Umm... I don't mind telling you but please move away a little."

I mumbled as I looked away and she sat down on the cushion with a blushing face.

"Hmm... Where should I start? Oh, are you familiar with bread?"

"Yes. You mix wheat and yeast with water and leave it to rise for a few moments. After that, you'll bring it to the oven and take it out when it's cooked."

She explained while swaying her hands and forming shapes to aid in her speech.

"Well, your idea isn't wrong. If I should say, you're actually acurrate."

I spoke and placed the powdered medicine on a pot.

"Now that we are in the same page, I'll explain this thing called pizza."

I put my serious expression and lowered my voice.

"A pizza is composed of 5 different ingredients. The dough crust, the tomato sauce, the cheese, the toppings and the oven."

"W-why did you include the oven?"

She asked, puzzled with my explanation.

"Because the oven is the heart of the pizza itself! If it's just any oven, then it won't be delicious!"

I spoke with vigor as I spread my arms open and stepped triumphantly on the table to show how serious I am right now.

"First, let's make a dough crust on the kitchen."

I took out a handful of flour from a pot and carefully mixed enough water in it to form an irregularly shaped mound. I kneaded it and let it rise for a several moments.

"The secret of a good pizza is to only roll the dough in one direction, I'll be using this rounded piece of wood to flatten it and pull the edges to make it crunchy."

Yeah. As an avid fan of pizza, I learned everything necessary to create it by myself.

"Next is the tomato sauce. For this, we need a lot of tomatoes and a small amount of starch."

I took out a large sack of tomatoes from the cupboard which shocked Chiyo.

"Eh? H-how did you hide that large amount of tomatoes?"

"Nothing is impossible in anime! Look at Dar**ng in the Fran*x! It's beyond absurd!"

"Eh? Um? Huh?"

"Enough talk! Let's slice these tomatoes and make enough pizza sauce!"

"Uh...Um...Yay?"

For several hours, we did nothing but to slice the tomatoes and place them in a boiling pot where I dissolved the starch in the water.

"Mm... I can already smell the pizza with this sauce."

I mumbled and mixed the powdered black pepers and brown sugar in the pot.

"Hwah..."

Chiyo sighed and looked at her hands which became sticky because of the tomato juices.

"I...I'm sorry for getting you involved in my business... I wasn't paying attention and your question became a lesson in cooking class."

I giggled to lighten up the mood and as soon I spoke, she looked at me with a kind smile.

"No,no... If anything, I should be thanking you Iwasawa-dono. Ever since I met you, I kept learning and learning new things that I didn't knew before. Really, thank you."

She spoke and washed her hands using a basin on the table.

"Well, thank you very much, Aoyama-san. You are my first patient so your words mean a lot to me."

"Ah...Thank you."

After taking the pot out of the stove, I spread the scrumptious tomato sauce above the dough and placed it on a round pan.

"Now, this is the easy part. We just have to grate the cheese above it."

I began rubbing the small block of cheese on a grater and let it drop on the dough where it stuck on the tomato sauce I spread before.

"Now we're at the last part of the preparation. What do you want to place in the pizza, Aoyama-san?"

"Huh?"

She asked and turned her head to my direction.

"This is the funny part about Pizza, it's like Nabe (Hotpot). You can place anything you want and it'll certainly taste delicious."

"Hmm... Oh!"

She placed her hand on her chin for a moment and hit her palm together as she seemed to remember something.

"Can I go to the market for a moment?"

She asked as she stood up.

"Um...Yeah."

As soon as I gave her permission, she ran outside and hastily went to the direction of the market.

"What's going on with her?"

I asked myself as I stood there for a moment.

"Well then, I think I'll place my own toppings while she's still out there."

Taking out a jar of my home-made smoked ham and sliced green peppers, I noticed the door opening and closing.

"Welcome back."

I greeted as she came inside the kitchen with a small basket on her hand.

"I'd like to place this in the pizza... It's alright isn't it?"

She asked and took out the contents of the basket which surprised me for a moment.

"Shrimp?"

"Yes."

I forgot that she loves seafood. But it isn't surprising to me now.

"Of course, just clean them and take off their shells and we can place them."

"Yay!"

She gave a small cheer and went outside to wash out the slimy texture of the seafood and took it inside to take off the shells.

"Now on the last part, let's finish this by placing it over the pizza and adding a dash of butter."

Since it's seafood, it's natural to use this method to remove the fishy smell.

"Well then, time to hit the oven."

~~~
"It's ready!"
"Wow!"
"What's this Hiro-nii?! Tell me! Tell me!! Tell me!!!"
Rinne, who heard that I was cooking something new, came running inside with her soccer ball and clothes covered with dust. Chiyo used the bath to give her a quick clean-up and made her wear a new set of clothes.
"Now, now. Don't be too hyper Rinne. I won't let you eat if you are too naughty."
"Okay!"
She nodded and reached out for a pair of chopsticks.
"You don't need those Rinne-chan. Iwasawa-dono said that we can eat this using our hands.
"Nya! Then it's perfect for me! Thank you for the food! Nom..."
She cheered and reached out for a slice which she quickly gobbled up.
"Umm!!! Yummy! Delicious!"
"Wow... This is really delicious, Iwasawa-dono."
"Hehe... Looks like it worked out. This brings back memories."
I mumbled as I bit the pizza slice and allowed the flavors to run wild in my mouth.
"Umu... Peppers, go away... There we go."
"Rinne-chan, eat the peppers. Don't just set them aside."
"Nya! I don't like veggies!"
"You eat what's on the plate!"
As Chiyo lectured the young girl about eating veggies, I remembered something that seems close to it.
"I think I can make an another new food today."
"Huh?"
"Just wait here."
~~~~

"It's ready."

"This smell... What is this?"

"It's called Pasta, but I like to call it Spaghetti."

"Supageti?"

"Hehe. Just take a bite out of it."

I spoke and placed the noodles and the tomato sauce with ground pork and smoked ham in a bowl.

"Hmm... It's like Soba but this taste is-!"

"Delicious!!! Rinne likes Supageti!"

Rinne cheered while giving me a thumbs up and continued to eat heartily.

"Mm... You're a great cook, Iwasawa-san."

"Hehe... Thank you."

And after this event, Pizza and Spaghetti became infamous in the Village of Aoya. The news later spread throughout the province and they began to cultivate tomatoes and wheat much more than before.

"Wait, is it alright to give them Italian food as soon as the mid-15th century?"

My concern seems to not be useful anyway.

By the way, aren't we forgetting someone?

"Hahaha!!! Sake and Pizza is the best, Old lady! Bring more Sake!"

"Gah! Quit ordering more sake Kenji-san! I'm paying for this! Not you!"

"I'll make the next Cooking Master Boy of Aoya drink alcohol until he can't stand up anymore! Woohoo!!!"

"Hey!!! Censor those words! We'll be copyrighted!"

"Huh? Isn't this show already a copyright violation? Look, it's like those anime, right? The Ambition of Oda Nobuna and Touken Ranbu."

"It isn't!"

"Eh? Changing the heroine's name to Kusanagi Kyouko won't cut it short as a violation. It's like Shana from Shakugan no Shana and Taiga from ToraDora."

"Damn it! Get out of my show!"

And thus, this light novel will be renamed as The Rise of the Ladle Hero. The story would be changed to make it a cooking show like Shokugeki no Soma...

Wait, maybe Shokugeki no Hiroshi would be better... or Attack on Pizza? Wait! I know! No Pasta No Life!

"Damn it! Not you too Author-san! Why is everyone not following my commands?!"
