An abnormal alarm began blaring in the distance. It was different from the general alarm that had been sounding since the emergency statement about Reed Regardius.
"Huh?" Jophiel was confused. "That alarm's unheard of…"
"Isn't that the alarm for the main entrance?" John asked.
Disoriented at the thought, Jophiel rushed over to the nearby keypad. He began punching in a code, expecting a ring to be brought about. But the attempted call would be immediately rejected.
"Why won't Gabriel pick up?" He was annoyed. "Is that really the alarm for the front entrance?"
"Yeah, I remember hearing it when Abel was first brought here," John nodded.
"Tsk," Jophiel opened the chamber's entry door and rushed into the hallway. There, he encountered both Overseer Chamuel and Ariel heading his way.
"Jophiel!" Ariel called out.
"Ariel! Chamuel! What's happening? Why is the alarm for the front entrance going off?"
"We don't know, we were going to head to communications to check on Overseer Gabriel since he wasn't responding to our calls." Chamuel sighed.
"You guys too?" Jophiel was surprised. "Let me tag along. He wasn't picking up my calls either."
The three Overseers maneuvered the alarm-filled halls, eventually reaching Gabriel's communications office.
"What the…"
They were surprised tp find that the office's front door had been blown open. Jophiel rushed inside to discover the unconscious Overseer.
"Gabriel!" He yelled. He went over and held the Overseer. "No injuries…"
Suddenly, Gabriel opened his eyes; they were clouded. "Huh?..."
"Gabriel, hey. Are you okay?" He looked towards the blasted door. "What happened?"
"What… happened?" He held his head.
"That's what I'm trying to ask you…" Jophiel felt panic arise.
Behind them, Ariel and Chamuel were observing the unusual scattered debris.
"I can't seem to remember," Gabriel squinted his eyes. He felt a surging pain run through his head.
Jophiel began to speculate. "No…" He turned towards the other two Overseers.
"Someone go to the containment hall and check on the other subjects. Gabriel seems like he's had his memory wiped, and no one can do that other than…" He paused; "Gian-Luca."
"You've gotta be kidding me," Ariel dashed out the door. She started bolting to the hall the subjects should have been found in. But she checked each and every designated room, to find that all was empty.
She then recalled the uncommon but familiar sound of the facility's entrance doors opening; its irregular alarm blasting through the speakers down the hall.
Ariel rushed back to Jophiel and Chamuel with the alarming news.
"All the rooms in the containment hall are empty," she panted.
"Ariel," Chamuel spoke up. "Me and Jophiel have discovered traces of pupil alteration in Gabriel's eyes. They're completely clouded too, look."
Ariel walked over to observe the now blind Gabriel. His eyes were emptied, similar to those of the Angels she'd been having her subjects experiment on for the past few months.
"Vidia…" She recalled the blinding ability. "That's Vidia's doing… Oh my god."
"You said the rooms were empty, right?" Jophiel asked.
"Yeah."
Jophiel scrunched his face. "Those guys are definitely trying to escape."
