All-Knowing

"Wait," Midas peaked around the corner. "Okay, it's clear."

"Sheesh," Venus brushed past him. "You're such a worry freak."

He continued down the hall without regard of any possible danger, completely laid-back at the alarming environment of the facility.

Midas sighed and followed along. He understood it was only reasonable to rest assure by Venus' side, "With an ability like that…" He thought to himself.

The two traced back the direction they came from, hoping to find the pile of dead Angels around every corner they looked. Through one, two, and now three corridors, it was almost as if they were going in the wrong direction.

Venus groaned, "Are we even going the right way?"

Midas was somewhat confident. "Pretty sure what we're looking for is right around this corner—" He immediately stopped in his tracks.

Standing over the previously killed pile of Angels, were three Overseers; Ariel, Jophiel, and Chamuel. Midas quickly swooped back around the corner.

"STOP," he halted Venus.

"Cowardly imbecile," he began stepping forward. Midas very quickly stepped in front; "No," he shook his head. "Overseers are right around the corner. Three of them, including Chamuel."

Venus was somewhat startled. "Oh…" He stepped back.

Midas leaned over with intent to listen. The two tuned in to what could be heard in that next hallway.

"Who did this? Reed?"

"Couldn't be. Isn't he being fended off in the Garden right now?"

"Right… then who?"

There was a momentary silence.

"Wall indentation, ruptured ribs; these Angels must have died on fatal impact. The only person I can imagine doing this other than Reed is… my very own subject; Venus Van Hattum. His ability can very possibly bring this about."

It was Overseer Chamuel speaking; Midas and Venus immediately realized this.

"The wounds are still seeping, and the blood's fresh. That means he's been here recently."

"Can't we assume they all have? I mean, they must all be banded together, right? We saw effect of both Vidia and Gian-Luca's ability on Gabriel, and that's one subject from both me and Ariel. Now here's effect of Venus' ability, a subject of yours Chamuel. If those three have made moves, there's almost no doubt the other three are moving with them too."

"Shit." Midas was still listening. "They're onto us…"

Venus nudged Midas. "How're we gonna check their bodies for keys now? Those imbeciles and Chamuel are literally guarding it."

"Let's just wait for now," Midas continued to listen.

"Anyhow, if they're on the move to escape, they should be at the bay right now. That alarm is meant for the opening of the entry gate, which is unusual to occur at a time like this. But they could very possibly be escaping right this instant—" Chamuel's voice abruptly paused.

"Chamuel?"

The reply wasn't immediate. He sighed, "It's… nothing. You two should head to the bay to confront the subjects."

"What about you?"

"I'll... catch up. There's just something I need to observe about these Angels, I'll be quick."

There was a slight pause, as if they were silently nodding in agreement.

Midas was anxious. "What are they—" He was suddenly startled. The sounds of running footsteps were heard approaching them.

"Venus!" He waved towards a room across them; "In here!"

Understanding the danger of the situation, Venus followed in. The two ducked behind cover while the footsteps passed by. Looking through a peak in the doorway, they could see Overseer Ariel and Jophiel run by.

"That's in the direction we came from," Midas noticed.

Venus snickered; "Yikes, those imbeciles are surely gonna die."

His response was disappointing to Midas. "Shut up. They can defend themselves."

"They can 'blah blah blah'," Venus rolled his eyes. "You're all absolutely pathetic. If it weren't for me tagging along, you all would've died right from the start. You imbeciles NEED me."

This caused Midas to fume from inside, but he knew he couldn't let his emotions get the best of him, not in the moment that they should stay quiet; Overseer Chamuel was still present just meters away.

Unexpectedly, words spoken brought chills to both Midas and Venus.

"Come out," Chamuel spoke aloud from around the corner.

"I know you're there, Midas and Venus."
