Doomsday

{ NOVEMBER 2159 | THE DAY OF THE JENZAYA EXTINCTION }

A tremor had begun, and one that would not stop until thousands of eyes were closed.

"This could be it…" Midas had been waiting for an occurrence as such to happen in the last two weeks. Numerous reports came flying in from his comrades in the area surrounding Jenzaya District, claiming destruction could be heard, yet not be felt.

"Midas?" Ian radioed in.

"Yes, what is it?"

"Veronica and I are scouting around Vesp District right now, but for the past few minutes we've been hearing loud rumblings coming from across the river."

"In Jenzaya District's direction?"

"Yeah. Just thought I'd let you know."

Venus suddenly spoke into the radio. "The imbecile's right! I hear the rumblings too!"

Midas was intrigued. "Where are you right now Venus?"

"Crete District. Holy—!" Venus' voice suddenly cut out.

"Venus?! What happened?!"

He finally spoke back in. "I just saw a building collapse!" More buildings! All the buildings are collapsing!!"

"What?!"

Static explosions and rumbles could be heard in the background of Venus' audio.

"What's going on over there? Venus?"

"I think it's an earthquake!"

Midas was struck. But before he could conclude this thought, his mind dug back into its library of knowledge. He knew what was right, and what was wrong.

"It can't be… It can't be an earthquake..."

"Why not?"

"The region you are all in, Jenzaya District's region... is not found near any seismic belts."

"Seismic belts?"

"It means earthquakes are impossible in that region."

"Midas' right." Ian stepped in. "If it was an earthquake, Veronica and I would feel at least some of its vibrations. Vesp District is just a mile away, yet we don't feel anything beneath our feet."

"This is unnatural." Midas held his head. If it wasn't an earthquake, what was it? This is what ran through his mind.

"I have an odd phenomenon to disclose!" Gian-Luca suddenly called in. "Vidia and I have found the destruction's maximum radius."

"Maximum radius?" Midas had his attention seized. "What do you mean?"

"We've found a bridge to cross over to Jenzaya District, and it's collapsed. But its broken debris still rumbles with the tremors, yet our platform doesn't. We are only a few mere meters away."

"That should confirm it. We are not dealing with an earthquake here—"

"I can hear screams!" Venus quickly interrupted Midas.

"People are dying…?"

"You think it's A.X.A. again? More Angels maybe?" Ian suggested.

"No. There's a consistent rhythm in the destruction. They're like… waves of destruction, pulsating in intervals from within Jenzaya District."

"Seems like studying at Xavier taught you a thing or two, Gian-Luca." Midas made up his mind. This unnatural disaster needed to be investigated.

Veronica was now on the radio. "Do you guys think it might be Reed?"

There was a momentary silence.

"Reed Regardius…?"

"Yeah... If it isn't an earthquake, what else could cause destruction on such a massive scale?"

Hearing this, Midas' heart stopped. "Reed…" Reed Regardius was the key to an open library of knowledge—A.X.A.'s, and Midas was going to retrieve it in any way he could.

"Perhaps it is..."

"And if it is?" She asked Midas.

"Then we're going to do as we've been planning."

In the last two weeks, the Sins have been on scout patrol in search of the Sin of Wrath. With instruction of Midas' words, their plan was to recruit the Sin and have him join them.

"I instruct all of you out there to investigate the tremors and catch a glimpse of the perpetrator behind the destruction. If it is Reed, contact me immediately. This may be our moment to gain an extra ounce of power on our side..."

As always, the rest of the Sins complied with Midas' words. He was, after all, responsible for their survival and escape from A.X.A.'s fatal laboratories. They'd appointed him their leader for a reason.

"Understood," the rest of them replied.

The radio call was cut off, and the Sins around Jenzaya began their investigations.

"Uriel…" Midas spoke into the air. "I may have found what you need…"
