"—to…"
A muffled noise awakened his thought, interrupting the darkness he slept in.
"Suto!" It was Jarrett, standing over him.
"Huh?" Suto sat up. He noticed yellow rays of light that shone through the burrow.
"It's already 9:30, how are you not awake yet?"
He fumbled his thoughts. Suto remembered he'd not been able to sleep until nearly 6:00 am the night before. "I don't know…"
"Don't we all automatically wake up at 9:00 am? You okay Suto?"
He brushed it off. "I'm fine, don't worry about it."
"Whatever you say… Come out," Jarrett reached out a hand. Suto was pulled out of the burrow, accompanying Jarrett and Zika on his feet. The heat of the sun irritated his awakening senses.
Beep!
A loud sound interrupted them.
"Current contender count: 21 remaining. Incoming Specialized Phase E: A powerful bomb has been planted in the South City, waiting to be defused. The bomb is being defended by non-contender individuals that are with the Metatron Tournament. The contender that defuses the bomb within the time limit will be rewarded with a powerful protective charm."
The voice's message echoed across the sky.
"Another Specialized Phase…" Jarrett checked his device. The time limit counted down from five hours.
"It's until 2:30 to finish the objective."
"A powerful protective charm…? What do you think that means?"
Jarrett was brought to think. "I'm not too sure. They're pretty vague about it."
Across the two, Zika pointed towards the horizon. Past the hill that they stood on, the tipping ruins of the remaining Jenzaya District could be seen.
"South City…" She said.
"Yeah, we're at about the halfway point in between the North and South City. But are we gonna go?" Jarrett questioned.
"We've dodged every Specialized Phase up until now, and we're still one of the few remaining. I'm sure it's not necessary."
"It isn't. It's optional after all. But with that being said, they do offer advantageous items for completing them."
Suto was conflicted. "But we're not here to win the tournament, are we? Our main objective is to find Axel."
"And if we think from Axel's perspective, he'd probably head to these Specialized Phases in search of the Sins. Just think about it from a Virtue's point of view, the Sins should most likely head to these Specialized Phases with confidence in their powers, right? There's a chance we can find Axel at Specialized Phase E, and while we're at it, possibly a Sin or two."
Suto sighed. "I guess…"
"Hey," Jarrett put a hand on his shoulder. "Relax. Look at this arsenal of confidence we've got in our hands, right?" He engaged his cybernetic arms. Behind him, Zika holstered her massive sniper, awaiting its next victim. And in Suto's hands, he gripped the handle of his Lance of Eternity tightly. The three of them, although lacking the other four that made their team, were still waiting to pack-a-punch.
"Right," Suto replied. "Let's go then. We gotta finish by midnight."
"No sweat," Jarret brushed it off. "We've got 15 hours to spare. Onwards."
The three made their way over the hill, beginning their journey down into a valley that would eventually lead to the South City.
Specialized Phase E was now the new grand objective.
