New House, New World, Scared Friends.

New House.

"She is a lovely old lady with a huge house. You're going to love her Quin!" Smithy looks at me through her review mirror. Her smile was wide but didn't reach her eyes, I know the reason, she knows the reason. We both knew this day would come.

"Has she ever fostered anyone before?" I tried to muster up a smile, just for her, but I couldn't do it. She was like the mum i never had but child services saw her 'unfit' for adoption.

Her smile drops and she looks away from the mirror. "Once." She doesn't want to talk about it, it was evident in her tone. However, i am a very curious person.

"Once? So do they still live at the house or did she not want them?" She hesitates for a second. A second turned to minutes and just when i thought she wasn't going to answer she looks at me in the review mirror again.

"Listen Quinn. No matter what you hear about Miss Grant you keep this in mind you hear?" With my nod she continues, " Miss Grant's last foster child attacked her with a bat. She is very cautious around children now so you do as your told okay? It's for your safety and hers."

The rest of the car ride was silent. Words could not describe how happy i was when we pulled into the drive way of the manor.

New World.

"Right. Thank you Miss Smith." The door slams in Smithy's face as she turns to me. "My name is Miss Grant, you will address me as such. You have the attic room and I would appreciate it if you wouldn't look at me like i was some kind of monster." Right there, in that moment is when i decided, i like this crazy old bat.

"Okay"

"Okay? Is that all your going to give me? Can you not stomach a full sentence girl?" ...Maybe not.

"Sorry Miss Grant." She waves her hand in a 'Dismissing' gesture towards the attic stairs. "The only time i want to see you downstairs is when we're eating or you're going out, i don't want you to loiter down here is that clear?"

As im about to nod, i am reminded of the 'full sentences' remark she made earlier and fix my mistake. "Yes miss Grant, thank you." As she walks out so do i, up the stairs and into my room, the room i was going to make my new world.

"The Manor?! What in the hell! Have you not heard about Vincent?" I scan the room. At the sound of Vincent's name the entire cafeteria had gone silent and was staring right at me.

Taking a nervous sip of my water I mumble, "Who's Vincent" I feel my face heating up, did i say something wrong?

A guy around my age stands up and makes his way over to me. "Come with me." It didn't sound like a question and it most certainly didn't sound as if he was kidding around.

With a roll of his eyes he grips my elbow and drags me out of the cafeteria. "How do you not know who Vincent is? Do they not tell you this type of stuff before you move in with an old coot?"

My jaw dropped. "Old coot? I mean... yeah she's rude and yeah she can be scary, she doesn't like me coming out of my room and seems to like it when im out of the house.." I trail off as i realize something. She hates me. Why would she take me on as a foster child if she hated me so much?

He stares me down, his arms folded and an expectant look formed on his face. "Don't take it too personally. She was just like this at the start with Vincent too."

I let my gaze rise to his eyes...His eyes were so amazing...No! Focus Quinn! We're talking about something important! I mentally face palm and tune back into the conversation that this god seemed to be having with himself.

"--He tried and tried to make that woman like him but she just wouldn't. Hey, are you even listening?" I mumble something incoherent and watch as his expression turns into one of a confused puppy, with his head cocked to the side and his eyebrows scrunched together. "What did you say?"

I let out an awkward laugh, "I said your cheeks look pinch-able." I feel my face warm up. Great I probably look like a tomato.

"Pinch-able? You...You think they look pinch-able?" Though i'm sure he would never admit it, for a good thirty seconds his cheeks turned red at my comment. "W-well um. I have to go but we are not finished with this conversation. Meet me on the football field after school."
