UNDYING LIGHTENING BODY

James appeared in a lightening dimension and around him, lightening crackled and it seemed like a world made of lightening.

As he was observing the dimension, a bolt of lightening struck the ground at his side but because it was made of lightening, it absorbed the bolt.

"I am supposed to absorb this, what do I look like, a lightening rod?" James asked himself as he imagined what would happen if he was hit by a lightening bolt.

"This is really troublesome, I don't think my body can withstand the force of the lightening, I will most likely end up roasted" James complained as he tried to think of what to do.

"What if I use the iron skin skill while absorbing the lightening, still that is dangerous, I will let my clone test it out first" James said to himself as he created a clone and instructed him to use the iron skin skill while absorbing the lightening.

The clone first observed the sky and when he saw a lightening bolt conjuring itself, he got ready and immediately the it saw the lightening bolt approaching, it stood in its path and got struck by it then collapsed.

After the clone was struck, James heard the clicking sound and an hourglass appeared and the sand started falling.

"Wait there is a timer, this means that if the clone absorbs the bolt, then it also counts as me so if both of us absorb together then we can absorb more lightening bolts" James said after deep thought then he moved to the clone who stood up like it didn't just get struck by a lightening bolt.

"Looks like it isn't that painful" James said as he also timed a lightening bolt and when he saw one approaching, he moved to its path and activated the iron skin skill then he suddenly thought of something and froze.

"Wait a minute, aren't the clones immune to pain, oh shit" James said as the realization struck him and he tried to move out of the way but he was a tad too slow and he got struck.

When the lightening bolt struck him, his whole body went numb instantly and he collapsed, he was feeling so much pain that he just stayed put, the only time he felt so much pain was when he first conjured a lightening bolt to strike the demon king.

As James was laying on the ground, the pain suddenly vanished from his body which made him surprised but after experiencing it once, he found out that it wasn't so bad so he sat cross-legged like he had read in cultivation novels and felt the abundant lightening in his body so now he just had to absorb it but found out that he didn't know how.

He first thought of asking the system but decided against it because he didn't want to rely too much on the system so he sat there trying various methods until he finally discovered an effective method.

All he had to do was feel the flow of lightening in his body and direct it to the various parts of his body but the lightening in his body dispersed and that proved to be a waste of time and he knew that he didn't have much time so he focused the lightening on one part of his body and found out that the part of the body automatically absorbed it, whenever the lightening passed by a part, it would numb that part and when the numbing vanished, there would be a refreshing feeling in that part.

After discovering an effective method of absorbing the lightening bolts, he got up and glanced at the clone only to discover a rich amount of lightening energy in his body so he instructed him on how to absorb the lightening and got back to getting struck and so he maintained that circle, he would get struck, collapse in pain, absorb the energy and get struck again.

As he was getting struck, he realized that the pain was starting to lessen and the numbing feeling was also starting to reduce so it became easier to absorb the energy and slowly, he was starting to direct the energy to various other parts of his body and he also realized that he could attract the lightening.

Little by little, the number of bolts that he had absorbed increased and before long, he grew addicted to the feeling.

"Ah, feels so good to be struck by a good old lightening bolt, I should try this sometime" James said with a look of happiness on his face then as he glanced at the hourglass, he discovered that he only had a few minutes remaining so he had to make the best of his time.

"What if I try to store the energy in my body" James suddenly had an idea, anytime he was struck by a lightening bolt, he wouldn't absorb it but he would instead get struck again, he found out that he could store the lightening in his body so he wanted to know how much he could store in his body.

He stored so much energy that he thought he would explode if he stored anymore but he felt a strong feeling like something huge would happen if he stored more so he endured the pain he was starting to feel and stored even more.

While he was storing more lightening energy, he glanced at the hourglass and realized that he had only a few seconds remaining but he felt like he was almost there so this time, he went for a huge lightening bolt which terrified him previously but now he had confidence that he could store it's energy.

Immediately the bolt of lightning struck him, he heard a system notification and the last grain of sand fell from the hourglass and he was teleported to the same Hut that he first appeared in.

YOU HAVE GAINED THE BODY CULTIVATION SKILL OF THE GOD OF LIGHTENING AFTER BEING TEMPERED BY LIGHTNING. THIS SKILL CAN ONLY BE LEVELLED THROUGH THE CONTINOUS TEMPERING OF LIGHTENING.

"A cultivation skill, a real cultivation skill, wow" James was shocked when he saw that it was a cultivation skill which he had read about in eastern fantasy novels.

"Let's put that aside for now, what do I do next" James was excited but he knew that he had to prioritize getting to the guardian beast first so he looked around for any new writings and sure enough, he found it at another side of the wall.

"To advance to the next level, place your hand on the orb and transfer some of the lightening into it" James read the inscriptions and he heard that clicking sound and an orb materialized before him on a platform.

He placed his hand on the orb and relaxed himself before directing the lightening to the orb.

As the orb absorbed the lightening, it grew brighter and brighter but James still Fe's it with lightening and as the lightening was almost exhausted, the orb suddenly crackled with lightening and startled James which caused him to step back in shock then the lightening flew into the air and a familiar face condensed itself before him.

"You.. you are me.." James stammered in shock because standing right in front of him was the God of lightening that he saw in his visions.

"Yes and you are also me, I am a strand of consciousness of the God of lightening left behind in order to pass on his inheritance onto his successor which is you" The consciousness said to James and waited to hear his response but when James stood there without saying anything, he continued.

"I know that you are shocked about how I know who you are, well it is simple, I sensed your presence when you summoned that lightening bolt that day and instructed the guardian beast to release it's aura for you to sense and it seemed like you sensed it and that was why you came" The consciousness said to James with a smile.

"You are right about that but how did you know that I was the one" James asked the consciousness after recovering from his shock.

"I knew that because only the God of lightening could summon such pure lightening so when you arrived, the God of lightening created 7 tasks for anyone who qualified to receive his inheritance and I was shocked to realize that you completed all the previous ones better that the requirement set by the God of lightening so you don't have to take the last challenge" The consciousness said to James with joy.

"Well what can I say, I didn't expect something like this, I came here because the guardian beast is in danger, did you know about this and if you did, why didn't you try to help" James asked the consciousness suspiciously.

"You fail to understand my purpose, I am but a strand of consciousness, my only purpose is to pass the inheritance onto whoever qualifies, I am unable to cause any physical harm so I could only watch as the guardian beast was imprisoned with the demon chains" The consciousness explained to James sadly.

"What exactly are the demon chains" James asked the consciousness curiously because the demon lieutenants told him that the guardian beast had been bound with the demon chains.

"The demon chains are one of the 10 great artifacts that were created by the forging God and the God of lightening, I am sure you probably don't know what the 10 great artifacts are, they were created during the great war by the God of forging, the God of light and the God of darkness" The consciousness paused then continued.

"The first was the God slayer which was used to injure you, the second was the lightening bow which belonged to you, the third was the demon slaying dagger, the forth was the flaming sword which was lost during the great war and.. " As the consciousness was mentioning the artifacts, he was suddenly interrupted by James.

"Whoa, did you say the demon slaying dagger and the flaming sword, would these be the weapons you are talking about" James said in a rushed tone as he took out the demon slaying dagger and the flaming sword.

"HOW.. WHERE DID YOU GET THEM!" The consciousness screamed in shock as he saw the weapons James took out.
