Rise to Power

This makes me think, I never wanted to be depressed. I was angry for so long that now it's hard not to be. Some people think me crazy, some think me strange and others think me sad and not many people would remember the reason for the anger for this long, but I'm not many people. No, I still remember Roco and what I did to him and what the telepaths did to my friends. No, I'm still angry at them for that. My first friends in a new world, killed by others, others who were trying to help me. No, not help, they didn't help, they killed my friends. So, I'm thinking now, "What does this town need?" I say to myself with a mischievous like half smirk. As I've once heard, if someone gains control of the water he or she gains control over everything, and I know just the place to start.

I walk a short distance of 300 meters from Zenith down to the edge of Philipson creek, which is on the edge of town. As I walk up to the creek I laugh a genuine laugh. "See," I say to no one, for there is no one around me, "this creek is usually bare and has been for centuries, except a few weeks every year. In that time the banks of the creek are lush with the greenest grass, the murkiest water and alive with the tallest paperbark trees, there are a few patches of healthy, living grass and plants. I'm amazed at how well the rice is grown in the radiation. I guess the radiation is making the plants grow at ridicules rates. I pluck out all the plants I can hold a the moment. I go back to Zenith and I'll come back for more. I figure, if I can get control of the food and water I can control the town, then I can control who eats and who doesn't. My revenge plan is perfect. I take a wheelbarrow around to the creek bank to collect more food. There's someone else on the other side of the bank, so I drop the barrow and run behind a tree before they see me. I peek around from behind the tree and see them bent down to the creek, it looks like they're taking a drink with their hands cupped, down in the water, but then I see them lift their hands away from the water and see something gently float away. The object that floats the down the creek, looks to be a small sailing ship covered with flowers. They get up and I hide again as I peer from behind the tree as they walk away. I run down to the boat and fish it out of the water as soon as they leave sight range. It has a note on it reading "Dear grandpa Roco, my grief is too much to bear. After hearing what happened to you, I promise, I will kill whoever killed you. Love from Amanda." I laugh, then it hits me, she know's me from school, she knows I killed her grandfather. I finish uprooting the rice and throwing it into the wheelbarrow and I head off back to Zenith, quickly.

I am woken up by a riot so loud I can hear it from Zenith, from across the creek. I get up and go out to meet the people at where they are. There are people yelling all kinds of things, "Where's our food!?"

"We're going to starve!"

"What are we going to do!?", then one person pushes through the crowd and turns to tell them "People, people of Marblegold, calm down so I can speak. These plants didn't die, by the looks of the soil they were uprooted. See how the dirt has been roughened up and looks like it is pushed to the side? That's the sign of uprooting." I slink back into Zenith, knowing they know what I had done. I hear some of them yelling random names accusingly, then I hear one of them yell "Katigoros!" and I run back to Zenith even faster. I run back to my corner and sit down to think. I hear steel hitting steel on the other side of the Zenith tower, so I walk over to where I heard it. I can't see any remains of something on the ground. There's a blinding shimmer in the corner of my eye and I look up to see a ring hanging off a piece of wire sticking out of the wall. I reach up and pick it off the hooked wire. I slide the ring onto my third finger on my right hand and it starts to glow red hot without burning me. I feel this real sense of power come over me.

I go outside and to the crowd. They all run at me screaming, I raise my hand to show the red glowing ring and they keep coming, so I force my hand into a fist and they all are blown away like pieces of string in the wind. They all get to their feet. I start to float in the air to see over all their heads.

"Everyone! I'm not the enemy here, Discorp is! They're the ones that sent us up here, for some of us we didn't know of their intent to lead us up here to die. Instead of dying we gained abilities we could never have imagined. Now it's time to lead them to die."

Says the know it all who explained what uprooting looks like. "How do you propose we go down there and keep our abilities?"

"Yes, I know that town down there was created to keep the radiation out, but if we were to make a hole in the ceiling to allow for the radiation to leak through we'd be able to keep the abilities and gain new brothers and sisters in this cause, and they'd know that it is possible to live here, and they'd know what we are now. Oh, and I confess to taking the food, but if you want, you can come back to get a bite to eat and then go back down to the battle."

"But, Katigoros, why?" Says another.

"Because they..." I struggle to find the words. "...their intent was to kill as if our lives weren't any more important then their's. Now! We leave tomorrow, everyone, prepare now."
