A smile found its way on Margaux's lips. Team Lea knew she had hatred towards Devin, making them worry.
"Let's see, okay, from Team Maxime," Professor Maltoise said and pointed at Morris's team.
Morris spoke with his teammates before picking Devin. When Kagura was about to object, Professor Maltoise raised his hand to stop her.
"What is wrong with them?" Kagura angrily spat.
Devin placed his hand on his friend's shoulder. "It's okay," he said and went in the middle of the gymnasium. The others were at the bleachers with Team Lea had their worried expressions.
Margaux raised her hand, "Excuse me professor. My teammates are in no fit to go into combat."
Without even letting Morris pick her, Margaux went down the bleachers and stood in front of Devin.
"That little–"
Morris stopped Kagura. She didn't even felt him walking up to her. Was this a Licensed Exorcist-level's capability?
"I have a plan," Morris said before walking away.
"Okay, all teams ready?" Professor Maltoise asked. Devin hesitantly nodded while Margaux only grinned.
"Start!"
The two unsheathed their swords at the same time. Devin knew he was no match against Margaux but he will not let his team fail again. He had enough guilt.
"Bring Out, Margaux!"
Everyone's eyes widened. Another factor for an Exorcist's strength was compatibility and synchronization with their Reverence. Having the same name as their Reverence means the higher potential for their synchronization.
The white light that covered her sword thinned. After the light dissipated, the sword turned thinner. The length didn't change but the blade was slenderer. It would make sense since Margaux was a stealth-type Exorcists. Having a heavier sword would be a burden.
With her light movements, she maneuvered her way in front of Devin in a flash. The intent in her slash towards the smaller boy was clear.
It held grudge.
Devin was barely managing to block Margaux's attacks. Her slashes were quick and rough even when her weapon was thinner than his own.
"Die!" she yelled and continued on slashing. Her physique, her weapon, and her fighting style complemented each other. Margaux came from a known Exorcist family, it wouldn't be a surprise if she already started her training at a young age.
Devin's movements became sloppy. His stamina was low and he was getting slower. The attacks from his opponent slowly got to him. A light slice in his arm made him flinch.
If it wasn't for his uniform's durability, the cut would've been deeper.
As he continued on blocking as much as he could, the cuts in parts of his body also continued. The other students felt pity for the little boy. It was clear from the beginning that this was going to happen.
"What is Professor Maltoise doing?" one student thought.
"I think this is enough."
"Why isn't the professor doing anything?"
…
Sofia couldn't handle it anymore. Whenever Devin took a hit, she also felt like a wound would appear from her. This was a drawback from her Sanctity. When she can influence other people's emotions, people who were close to her could also influence her.
"Professor, stop this!"
When Kagura was about to interfere, Morris stopped her again. "Let them be."
"They're bullying him!" Kagura yelled.
"Please Morris," Sofia said with a teary eye. "I can't take it anymore."
The others from Team Lea also voiced their opinions out. Even Yuri who was enjoying the fight at first felt a need to stop.
"Trust Professor Maltoise, please," Morris said and looked at the middle-aged professor. He was intently watching over the battle. "Just sit back down. He knows what he's doing."
Devin heard their conversation. They were practically screaming at each other. He felt his knees getting weaken and his body shutting down. The pain was numbed when his mind became hazy. His blocks became effortless, with Margaux hitting him as much as he could.
'Are you going to just let this slide?'
'Yes. I'm tired.'
'Will you not fight back?'
'No, I've had enough.'
'So, you're just going to surrender?'
'Yes, I will.'
'What about your teammates? Do they want to surrender?'
…
'What about Mrs. Berry? Did she wanted to surrender?'
…
'Let me ask you again. Do you want to surrender?'
Devin felt everything around him getting slower. It got slower and slower until it stopped. Margaux's attacks, Kagura and Morris's screaming, his classmates' whispers. Everything stopped.
The door to the gymnasium opened and small figure emerged.
"Revelation?" Devin asked.
The cat meowed before light covered his body. The light enlarged and formed a humanoid figure.
With the light dissipating, a boy who looked exactly like Devin appeared. The only difference was the boy had white hair and lighter skin than him. He was almost white as paper.
"Who are you?" Devin asked.
The boy smiled, Who told you to name your cat Revelation?"
Devin thought about it. After the cat was abandoned on his door, he stepped out and heard a whisper.
"I-It was you?"
The boy nodded. "Yes, my name is Revelation. I am your cat and…" Revelation pointed at Devin's sword. "Your Reverence."
"Impossible!"
Revelation disappeared from in front of him and appeared beside him. He smiled at Devin and held the blade of the sword.
The engravings lit up with a white light. "I am your Reverence."
"What do you want from me?" Devin asked.
"Do you want power?"
Devin thought about it for a moment. He remembered his teammates, Mrs. Berry, the Exorcists who died fighting, the innocent people who died.
"Silence means yes," Revelation said and smirked. "I'm hoping you'll choose the right path, Devin. This is not our last conversation."
Revelation's hand slowly lit up with the white light that was connected from the engravings. The light swallowed his body and it entered the sword.
'Bring me Out."
Margaux slowly moved and it was cue for Devin to block her attack.
Their swords met, with Devin pushing as hard as he could to throw Margaux off her balance.
His plan succeeded, making the girl stumble and almost slip.
"Why you–"
Everyone's eyes widen and a smirk formed on Professor Maltoise and Morris's lips.
"Finally," Morris said.
The engraving on Devin's sword was still lit up. As he panted, he glanced at the sword and remembered Revelation.
'Bring Out, now!'
"Bring Out…" Devin lifted the sword above his eye-level. "Revelation!"
A light sparked from the tip of the sword that made everyone squint their eyes at the brightness. The light swallowed Devin, coating his body with the white glow.
After the light dissipated, even Professor Maltoise couldn't believe what he was seeing.
Devin was wearing a long coat over his uniform. It was white as snow and was luminous as the moon. His sword also became a bit longer, with the blade turned white and the engravings were replaced with a small star on the tip.
He felt his body became weightless. His heavy sword was like a feather to him too. Everything was light and soft.
Staring at his enemy, he dashed forward. The glow that shrouded Devin made it harder for Margaux to see him. As his movements became agile, it was easier to strike down his enemy.
"No!" Margaux yelled and forcefully opening her eyes to block her opponent's attacks. Her hard work was fruitless for Devin was simply beyond her level. After awakening his Reverence, his whole aura had changed.
He was stronger.
Morris clicked his tongue, making Kagura look at him. Team Lea was smiling after seeing their friend's transformation. Kagura thought Morris would be too but he was showing the opposite emotion.
"There it is," Morris said, bearing a dark expression.
"The what?"
His expressions changed after hearing the girl behind him. "Oh, nothing."
He walked to his group with a worried sigh. He couldn't believe even a faculty member like Professor Maltoise didn't stop the fight after Devin's awakening. He thought as a faculty, he would notice by now.
Morris grit his teeth, seeing his brother from the opposite side of the gym shaking his head. Maxime sighed and got out of the gymnasium.
Why can't they see?! Morris angrily thought.
Why can't they see the terrifying stained soul lying on Devin's shadow?!
