Her Last Day

Nesryn made her towards the fifth floor, everyone stood up and greeted her. She flashed her perfect smile "Thank you for your hard work, please" she said, gesturing for them to go back to work. The floor room instantly quieted down as she made her to the office of their department head.

She knocked on the door "Come in" a manly voice said from the other side. Nesryn opened the door and greeted the man with a smile.

"Hello Mr. Mike, Good morning, I am here to get the Marketing department monthly report, Is it ready?" she said, not pausing and getting straight to the point. The man smiled and got out of his seat and into one of his file cabinets.

"Luckily, it was the first one to be finished than the others….ah! Here we go" he took out the thick folder from the cabinet and handed it to her "Thank you" her words were polite but sweet, the man smiled and bowed his head and Nesryn got out of the office, closing the door behind her.

"Have a nice day" were her last words before disappearing in the elevator.

Once gone, the employees looked at each other with a confused expression on their face. Usually, one of the new employees from the President's floor would be the one collecting documents, it was bizarre for them since it's unusual to see her on a simple day, just like their boss. The only time she would personally get documents was because she needed to talk to the department's head.

The elevator doors opened and Nesryn stepped out, she walked towards the long halls of the PR department, heading towards the head's office. Everyone watched her every move, eyes trailing after her till she disappeared when turning a corner.

She knocked on the door and opened it once hearing the permission. She saw 4 people inside, 3 on the guest chairs and 1 behind the desk.

They all stood up and bowed their head in greeting "No, no, please, did I come at a bad time?" she asked, a small apologetic smile on her face. The four men in the room shook their heads, hands waving no frantically.

"Good morning, I am here to get this month's report. Mr. Azriel said he would like to check it"

"Ah….ah...yes yes. The monthly report...uhhh" the man behind the desk said, his eyes looking at his colleague's for help. They avoided his gaze by lowering their head. Nesryn let out a silent breath before smiling "Then send it up once you have it, gentlemen" she slightly bowed her head and left the room.

Her smile immediately disappeared, clutching the folder on her arm, she walked away from the office and boarded the elevator, not even acknowledging people that came her way. One employee winced upon seeing the disappointment on her face.

Once she disappeared inside the metal box, the door of their department head slammed open "Do the monthly report and send it to the president's floor as soon as possible!" He yelled, startling all of the employees back to their jobs. It seems like they'll be doing overtime for the day.

While inside the elevator, Nesryn rested her feet and took the opportunity to read some of the files inside the thick folder.

She stretched her feet and got out once the door opened, her next destination is the Human Resource Department. With a smile on her face she entered the main office, greeting people that passed by her.

No matter where she goes, attention will always be on her. The moment she walked inside, every pair of eyes were on her, with a perfect posture she walked into the office of their head. "Greetings Mr. Jefferson, I hope you have a nice day, I am here for the files regarding the final candidates for the new employees for this month"

"Good morning Ms. Nesryn, hope you have a nice day as well" he said before standing up and going to a table on the side, taking out a black plastic folder with dividers and handing it to her. With a smile on her face, she said her goodbye and got out of the room. She bid the employees goodbye before boarding the elevator, arms now getting heavy from the folders.

Her last floor for the day would be the department with the most needed report, the finance department. With a sigh, she got out of the elevator and entered the office, she could hear it the moment the noise filled room silenced in just a second once she came to view. She made her way to the department head's office.

She knocked on the door and opened it once she heard the angelic tone from the other side "Good morning Mrs. Kris" the middle-age woman lifted her head and looked at Nesryn, a smile appeared on her face that Nesryn made smile sweetly as well. "Here to get the report?" she asked and Nesryn nodded.

"It's surprising that you came personally" the woman said, rummaging through the files behind her "It's my last day today" she said, her smile turning into a sad one, her eyes filled with longing.

The woman instantly stopped what she was doing before turning around "What do you mean? You're quitting? He fired you?" Nesryn shook her head.

"I am quitting, for my health" she murmured, but loud enough to be heard. Worry filled her face, her forehead creasing as she leaned over and took the folders off her arms and placed it on the side, before taking her hand and clasping it with her.

"Tell me, what's happening" she whispered, rubbing her thumb on the back of Nesryn's hand.

"I am suffering from leukemia, I knew since I first ever worked here, my father also had leukemia and I've been working hard for his treatment, because of that I neglected my own treatment for three years, till the last three months of last year, I started getting worse. My doctor said if I don't do chemo, I'll only have a short life to live"

Nesryn forced herself not to cry but the woman in front of her started trembling, as tears fell down from her eyes. "Without a second thought, I declined it, my father is in his last term of chemo, he needed the money more than me.

So I disregarded what I was feeling and sent money to him. My attacks got worse at the company event at the beach. That was the reason the boss was beside me by that time, he witnessed what happened, he took care of me till I felt better"

Nesryn opened up herself to the woman she considered her second mother, she got attached to the woman cause they usually go out and have lunch together before she got busier when the company's fame skyrocketed. Mrs. Kris listened to her story, can't help the tears streaming down her face.

Mrs. Kris got up and rounded her desk, pulling Nesryn into a tight hug, running a hand on her back "You'll get through this sweetie, you're a fighter Nesryn, you will live, no matter what happens, you can count on me to help you. I'll always support you, you're like a daughter to me you know that right?" Nesryn nodded and wrapped her arms around her torso.

She kept mumbling her thanks as the woman ran her hand on her back to calm her down. It took a couple of minutes in silence before the two separated, they talked for a bit before Nesryn took the heavy folders again.

"I'll get one of the juniors to carry that for you, you shouldn't do these things Nesryn, what if you get tired and something happens? Did that lover of yours put you through this?" Nesryn laughed and shook her head

"He doesn't even know I went down here, I just want to do this one last time before I go" she said with a sad smile.

Mrs. Kris returned her smile with a reassuring pat on the shoulder. They were disturb when a knock on the the rung loudly in the silent room "Come in" the door opened revealing a handsome man, around early twenties.

He bowed his head and greeted the two of them. "Ah, Ali just in time, would you be a darling and help Ms. Nesryn with the heavy folders?"

The man smiled and took the folders immediately, seemingly pleased to know that he was called to help and not to be scolded. Mrs. Kris sent them on their way, with a small thank you, Nesryn left her office, followed by Ali in tow. They made their way to the elevator, Ali's colleagues sending him curious gazes.

Silence filled the metal box as they boarded, Nesryn wasn't in the mood to talk and Ali seems like he knew that so he shut his mouth. After a couple of seconds the door opened, revealing the grandeur part of the office, not that any of the floor looks as luxurious as this one.

Ali seemed awestruck at the sight, he thought that their office was beautiful and luxurious enough with exquisite design in architecture, fully equipped computers, laptops and other things but this floor was way beyond what he imagined, it would make sense though since this is the environment their boss is working on and where he meets important clients.

Ali followed Nesryn quietly as she made her way back to Azriel's office. Employees stood up or stopped walking when she walked by, bowing their heads as a show of respect that Ali can't seem to stare at her back with awe and respect.

He did many jobs before having the courage to apply for this world-wide company and had seen how fake people can be, but this time he could see it.

The employees' respect for the woman standing before her is not fake but genuine. He was left to wonder what did the woman do to be placed on a high pedestal among all others. She was a role model for everyone in the office, even the older ones would praise her name when he attended meetings with them.

Their lunch breaks were filled with gossip that was only to be said within the building, all rumors, gossip and news relating to the company are allowed to be said in the building but once they are out of the building, their lips are sealed. This was part of the contact that they signed with the company when they got employed.

This was also the reason why many people wanted to work at their company, aside from the high-paying job, it's a healthy company that looks after their employees very well. They don't prohibit gossip, rumors, or making 'acquaintances' but the employees felt like it was not right to take advantage of that freedom when they were being paid well and more than other companies.

Ali's train of thoughts was cut off when Nesryn stopped in front of a large double door. "Come in" a baritone voice echoed from the inside.

Ali could feel his palms getting sweaty, this was not how he planned meeting his boss. Nesryn opened the door and waited for him to get in. He walked in slightly fidgeting when he saw the long-haired man sitting down from the far back of the office.

His presence felt like he was suffocating, he felt like if he made one wrong he'll be killed on sight. He felt like he was in the presence of a king rather than his boss, he felt like he's in high school again and is facing the principal.

"Sir, I've gotten the monthly report from each department, except for one, it will be sent up as soon as possible"

Ali watched as the man put down his pen and removed his glasses. He stood up straighter when Azriel walked down from the stairs and closer to them. They met eyes and Ali immediately averted his gaze.

"Ah this is Mr. Ali from Finance Department, Mrs. Kris sent him with me to help with the folders"

His breath hitched when he saw the man walking over, he took the folders from his arms and flashed him a breath-taking smile "Thank you for you work, I'll have Mrs. Kris reward you for your help, you can go now" Ali bowed his head and left almost instantly.

Nesryn looked at Azriel with raised eyebrow, as if asking what he was doing. Azriel leaned over and gave her a peck on the lips "I just want to say I love you" he said before turning around and walking back to his desk, leaving Nesryn confused by the sofa.

"Go eat some snacks, I ordered some and it arrived earlier, it should still be warm. Eat some before going back to work, you need to drink your medicine" Nesryn shook her head but with a small smile on her face as she made her way to the sofa.

"You have 30 minutes left before your first schedule" she said before taking the plate and started eating.

Azriel finished sorting out the folders on a side table, putting files that belong to its department. He made his way to his bag and grabbed a pill organizer before making his way to Nesryn's side, putting the organizer on the table in front of her. She smiled at him and patted his hand as thanks as she munched on the pasta.

Nesryn took her medicine after finishing her snack. They talked for a little bit before Nesryn had to remind him of his first meeting of the day. Nesryn cleaned up after herself, strongly refusing Azriel's help by glaring at the man, resulting for the tall man to pout and for her to laugh, that also made him smile.

Azriel fixed his shirt, buttoning off the two buttons from the top while Nesryn grabbed the meeting materials from his desk and they started Nesryn's last day with the first meeting of his schedule. With a sad smile on her face, she boarded the elevator for the last time with her boss.
