Chapter 16: Missing Each Other

Queen Beatrice's POV

It's back to zero again. I was dressed by the maids because it's my etiquette lessons.

"You gained weight, your highness," Julia said

"I think I ate a lot at my place. There's lots of delicious food. I can't help it,"

Alaric is back to his duties again. There's lots of work to do because were gone for a week. He is just in his office the whole day.

Fast forward, and I was in the room waiting for Alaric. It's already late in the evening, and he is still working in his office. It's all my fault because Alaric has lots of catching up to do with his work. After all, we are gone for a week. Sorry, Alaric.

The next day when I woke up, I put my hand beside me, hoping that Alaric is beside me, but there's no one beside me. I miss him already. I want to see Alaric.

King Alaric's POV

It's back to my duties again and this time, there's a lot of catching up to do because I was out for a week. I didn't sleep at Beatrice's side because I slept at my office. I want to be with her, but there's a lot of work to do and lots of papers to review. I want to see her, but I can't for now. I will make efforts when I'm not that busy.

"About this place, it will settle things if I went there personally, right Livie?"

"Yes, your highness. That would be the best decision,"

"Ok then, we will go there now,"

Narrator's POV

Meanwhile, Queen Beatrice is having her etiquette lessons.

"Queen Beatrice?" Nadine said. Queen Beatrice's dance instructor.

"Ah, I'm sorry. I'm not paying attention. Can I take a break first?"

"Ok, your highness,"

Queen Beatrice cannot even focus. She is thinking about King Alaric.

The next day. It's still like that. Fast forward, and it's been five days already. Queen Beatrice was in her room feeling sad and lonely.

"It's been almost a week, and I didn't see Alaric. Maybe he is still busy. I want to go to his office, but I may disturb him. Thinking about him makes me sleepy. I think I should sleep now,"

The next day, Queen Beatrice went to the garden. She sat on the grass, thinking about King Alaric again.

"I didn't see Alaric again today. I'm used to this kind of situation, but now, it's different," Queen Beatrice said while talking to herself.

"Your highness?" Janella, her maid said.

"Janella? What brings you here?"

"I was running an errand, and then I saw you seating here and thinking about something, so I went to check on you. Are you ok?"

"Oh, it's nothing serious. I'm ok,"

"Do you miss King Alaric?"

"I want to see him. It's been almost a week,"

"You will see him, your highness. I know King Alaric will find a way, but now he is super busy,"

"I understand,"

"I will be going now. Don't be sad your highness,"

"Thank you, Janella,"

"Glad to help, your highness,"

Queen Beatrice stayed there for a while then goes back to her room. She seats on the bed feeling down and spaced out.

"Queen Beatrice must be lonely," Julia said.

"I can tell by how her eyes are down and sad," Jonna said.

"I'm not used to seeing her like that. I want the lively Queen Beatrice back,"

"I agree. Let's leave her for now,"

The maids leave her and do their duties.

"I want to see Alaric. Maybe I can go to his office and hand him some snacks. That would be great,"

Queen Beatrice grab some snacks and went to King Alaric's office. When she got to King Alaric's office, he is not there, and it's just Butler Livie, so she went to ask Livie.

"Where is Alaric? I brought him some snacks,"

"King Alaric has a meeting to attend to, and he will be back tomorrow,"

"I see. Never mind"

"Is there something else you need?"

"No. How is Alaric? I bet he is tired,"

"I suppose,"

"I will take my leave now,"

"Ok, your highness,"

Queen Beatrice went to the top of the castle.

"I want to see him. It makes me sad and lonely when he is not beside me for a long time. It's a new feeling because I now realized how important he is to me. I hate what I am feeling now. Maybe I will just sing a song,"

Queen Beatrice sang a song, but it is not the lively song she uses to sing, instead, it's a sad song. All the people in the palace heard it and felt sad about the song.

King Alaric's POV

When I wake up, Beatrice came to mind. I miss her already. It's been a week of not seeing her. I want to see her so much, so I went to the palace as quickly as possible and not telling Livie about it. When I got back to the palace, I went straight to our room, but she is not there. I went to the garden, and I was right because she is there.

"Beatrice"

"Alaric?"

King Alaric sat beside her.

"When I woke up, you came to my mind. I rushed here in the palace and not informing Livie,"

"He must be looking for you now. How did you know that I'm here?"

"Just a quick guess? Because you love flowers. I want to see you, Beatrice. I can't afford not seeing you for a day, and it's been a week now, and I've been lonely. It hurts not seeing you,"

I looked at Beatrice, and she is also looking at me.

"I feel the same, Alaric,"

After that, we kissed passionately. A kiss that is longing for someone.

"Now that I am not that busy anymore. I can now spend more time with you,"

"Are you finish your duties?

"Yes. I think I deserve a break,"

"I'm sorry, Alaric,"

"For what?"

"About going to Terabithia. It's my fault that you have lots of work to do when you got back. I want to help, but –"

Beatrice didn't finish what she wants to say because I kissed her forehead.

"It���s ok. When it comes to you, I cannot say no. You can accompany me for my work if you are done with your lessons. I will not get mad. Are you thinking about that time I got mad at you because you told me to not overdo myself?"

"Yes, that's why I didn't disturb you. I also felt guilty of myself,"

"Feel free to go to my office from now on. I will not get mad at you. I want you to accompany me when I work, ok? I am just being arrogant at that time,"

"Ok"
