To Confess or not to Confess?

The ticking of the clock rings around a small room, it's painted with a cloudy white color, there are three small-sized beds on the right side of the room each with a small table, each with faded blue curtains separating one bed from another. On two of the beds lay two teenagers, one girl, and the other a boy, both are wearing the same soccer uniform.

The door opened and entered Alex and June with plastic bags full of food. They didn't get to eat that much around lunch because of practice.

Alex sits on a chair near Shaine's bed, he put his elbows on the soft mattress with his hands on his chin. He looks at Shaine's sleeping face until a small smile slowly grows on his lips.

June saw how he smiled at the girl and decided to tease him a bit.

June walk up to Alex's chair and slightly bump the back of the chair. "I saw that small smile of yours," he said teasingly.

Alex rolled his eyes and didn't bother to look at his friend, June who still haven't had enough of teasing Alex pull a chair to the side of his friend, he was seated backward with his arms over the headboard of the chair.

June stare at Shaine's sleeping face. "Why don't you just confess dude, it's been a long time now. The whole team probably knows about your feelings, heck even the newcomer knows," he said chuckling.

Alex slightly shakes his head. "Heck, like I can do that, I can't even bring up a conversation without a stutter or two."

June sighs looking at his friend. "You're just a coward. " He rustle up his hair and continued. "And to make it even worse Shaine is too dense to notice."

Alex didn't listen to any more of his friend's blubbering, he was too mesmerized by Shaine's sleeping face, without him realizing he started to talk to her.

"You're one heck of a girl, how can someone so cute be so scary when placed on the field," he said, his hand slowly making its way to her face, pushing aside some strands of her hair for him to see her face more.

June saw this coming and decided to not tease Alex more.

"How can someone be so fucking dense, you're probably the densest person I ever meet," Alex said laughing softly.

A smile creep to his lips. "You're too carefree and loud, do you have any idea how many times I've fallen for your silly jokes and that sweet smile you wore every time? "

"Dude I can't help but say you're so damn cheesy." he heard June yell from the other side of the curtain.

He turns his head towards the curtain and yells back. "Shut up," he said gritting his teeth.

"You guys are too loud."

Alex's eyes grow bigger hearing her dry but sweet voice, he slowly turns towards Shaine with a worried look, did she hear me? he thought to himself. Shaine opened her eyes halfway with her mouth slightly apart.

"You... you're awake," he said stuttering.

'Fuck fuck fuck, did she hear all of those cheesy things I said.' he yells to himself.

Shaine slowly got up from laying down and sit up with her eyes blinking slowly to adjust to the light. She held her head and grit her teeth, her eyes shut tight with small groans that are sour and dry.

Alex stood up and stand beside her holding her shoulders to help her balance. "You okay?" he calmly asks forgetting about what he said earlier.

"Just a little dizzy but I'm perfectly fine," she said smiling softly.

Her smile caught him off guard, just like lightning he was once again lovestruck.

June push aside the curtain and smile. "Hey hey hey, how you feeling there Shaine?" he asks earning a small smile and nod from Shaine.

Shaine chuckles a little. "I don't know if I was half awake a little while ago but I heard some things," she said fixing up her mess up hair.

The two boys slightly tilt their heads not knowing what the girl means.

"What kind of things?" June ask sitting down on the same chair he sat on earlier.

"I think it was kind of something close to a confession," Shaine answered with her index finger on her chin.

Hearing this Alex's eyes grow bigger and his body stiff on the spot, June on the other hand is trying his best to not burst into laughter but ended up failing on his task, his waves of laughter echo through the small room.

Shaine tilted her head. "What's up with you?" she ask calmly and confused.

"Hell yeah, that was a confession alright," June said chuckling. Alex snaps his head toward him with a deadly glare.

June awkwardly chuckles. "I'll be over here if you need me," he said and walk to the other side of the curtain.

"As if I need you, damn bastard," Alex whispered under his breath.

"Oh, I didn't know that one of you guys liked someone, so which one of you is it huh?" Shaine asks with a smile.

Alex grabs a bottle of water and hands it to Shaine with a small blush on his cheek.

"No one, maybe it was just your imagination," Alex said with his right hand adjusting his glasses.

"It was Alex!" June yell from the other side.

Alex roughly moves aside the curtain and glares at his friend sitting by Elly's bed. "If you don't shut up this instant I'll snap your neck in two," he growled, his hand forming into a fist ready to pound his friend to the floor.

June use his hand to pretend to zip up his mouth.

"Hey Alex I never thought that a quiet guy like you would like someone, so who's the unlucky-- I mean lucky girl?" Shaine joked grinning at Alex.

Alex's mouth has a small gap with a few small blubbers coming out, damn you June, he curses in his head.

Shaine blinks a few times and chuckles a bit. "Come on tell me, it's just us in here."

"Yeah, Alex it's not a crime to tell her," June said laughing a little, Alex snaps his head towards him.

"One more word out of your mouth and I'll make a faucet from your neck," Alex warn which made June cover his mouth.

'Damn it, is the world seriously telling me to confess now?' Alex yells to himself.

He clear his throat and stare at Shaine who tilted her head with a small smile, seeing her smile made him avert his stare with a flushed face.

'Like hell!' he screams to himself.

He took a deep breath and look back again to the girl in front of him, he slowly settle down on the same chair he sat on earlier, this is it, he thought.

"Shaine um you see..." he started, Shaine hum answering him.

"You're the coolest girl I've ever met and we've known each other for a long time, well not that long but you know what I mean." he chuckles.

Shaine chuckles along. "Well that's sweet but you can compliment me later, right now tell me who's the girl come on."

Alex sigh loudly and grab Shaine's right hand, he held it up to his chest which startled Shaine. His glasses are placed perfectly on his pointed nose, his cheeks are flushed with a small blush that can be seen due to his fair skin.

"Shaine I..... I.... like---"

"Ahhh!"

A scream boom inside the room interrupting Alex's confession, the scream came from Elly who is sitting up on his bed, his eyes staring at Alex with an unexplainable emotion.

"Elly are you okay?" Shaine asks full of worry.

Elly's eyes are staring blankly at their hands collide together, his stare came to Alex who immediately let go of Shaine's hand.

Elly coughs a little and calmly fixes himself on the bed. "I'm fine now."

Alex smiled toward Elly and stood up from his seat, he walk up to the nurses' table and sat down on the visitor's chair, June came walking towards him laughing a little.

"I guess it's not the time yet," June said putting his hands in his pockets.

Alex put up a small smile and stare at the two on the beds, they were happily chatting with each other, each with a small smile on their face.

"I'll get there." Alex encourages himself, he looks up to his friend and smiles. "But first I need to have a little chat with you," he said smiling sweetly.

June gulps and chuckles. "There's nothing to talk about dude," he said and puts his arm over Alex's shoulders. He knows that Alex will scold or even worse punch him for being too nosy.

"Oh, there is, a lot," Alex said pushing his glasses up a bit.

June steps back with his hands up front. "I was only trying to help you out," he said laughing.

Alex glares at his friend. "That was not helping."

The two keep arguing not noticing that Elly and Shaine are staring at them.

"Awe, man I didn't get to know who's the girl Alex likes," Shaine said pouting with her hands up on her chin, Elly look at his cousin with a brow raised.

"No girl can be as dense as you," he said, Shaine look back at him tilting her head.

"What do you mean?" she asks only earning a small sigh.

Shaine blink a few times and stare back at the arguing boys. I can't understand the ways of boys, she thought. She looks out the infirmary window to see a few students walking by and chatting with their friends.

"You guys want something to eat?" she heard June ask, her head turn back to the boys before letting out a smile.

June handed her a burger which she instantly dig into, after that game she felt an extreme feeling of hunger. She stares at the white-painted wall where the nurses' table settles, two paintings are hanging on the wall, both with gorgeously beautiful sunset themes.

Her head snaps towards the window when she heard a faint voice, like a kid's laughter. She shake the feeling off and continue with her burger, I'm going crazy, she thought.

Something is definitely out of place, things aren't what or where they usually are, and everything is weird in every way you can think of.
