"Mind telling me why you didn't even try protecting your sister?"
"W-well..."
Shin would start fidgeting. He'd scratched his head as he looked away in embarrassment.
"He doesn't have the physical strength to fight back."
His sister said, pointing to his flabby arms.
Well, he does look like he's not built for physical combat. He's shorter than me by like 6 inches. He also has a slim build, which is definitely not built for fighting. For other details, he has red hair and yellow eyes and he looked like he has a baby face.
"But I know how to use magic though. I can use 5 primary elements. I can use ice, water, terra, fire, and lightning."
"That's interesting."
Not really, I can use all 8 primary elements so I didn't really care if someone could use over 4.
"Ignoring the fact that you can use 5 elements, can you tell me more about your aberrant magic, the mystic eye, was it?"
"Uhh yes."
Depending on how good this mystic eye is, I might copy it and use it for my own use using replication, my aberrant skill. Of course, I'm going to have to replicate it when no one is looking.
"I'm able to see even the slightest of details, no matter how small it is."
"So it's like a microscope."
"What's that?"
Oh yeah, I forgot that kind of technology doesn't exist in this world, and at this age.
"Oh, it's nothing."
So if he can see even the slightest detail, he'll definitely be able to see me replicate his skill if I was in his sight. Anywho, that's a useful ability.
"What else can it do?"
"Well, that's pretty much it, my mystic eyes are a support type, it's not really useful in live combat."
Well, that's kind of useless. Guess I don't need to replicate it.
"I see."
We would arrive in front of the main building. People of all races were seen walking into the building. Me, Shin, and Hana entered.
"Ehh let's see."
Hana opened up a piece of paper.
"What's that?"
"It's a map. For our first three tests, we have to go to the testing chamber, which is located on the 5th floor."
"Where did you get a map?"
"Oh, the senpais at the gate were handing them out."
Oh, I thought they were just handing out recruitment papers for clubs and stuff.
"I think I'll follow you guys, I can probably easily get lost in this large place."
Hana became flustered, and she hid her face behind the map.
"O-ok."
I tilted my head, puzzled.
Shin looked at Hana and gave off a smug smirk.
***
As we walked up these long stairs, I noticed that we were receiving a lot of stares. Well, most of them were directed at me, and most of them were girls.
What's wrong with them?
I looked at a group of girls that were hanging out near a window. When they noticed me, they shrieked joyfully and ran away from me.
I really don't understand women.
"You see that? He looked at me."
"So cool~"
Hmm? I couldn't hear that clearly, but were they talking about me? Or were they talking about Shin?
Hmm... yeah, it was probably Shin.
"Hmph."
?
Is it me or did I just see Hana pout?
"It looks like we've arrived."
We stopped in front of a large open door. I looked down the halls, I couldn't see the doors to the other rooms. I wonder why?
Inside was a crowd. Everyone was having conversations, playing games, etc. This was like a highschool. Oh, the nostalgic feeling of hanging out... just kidding, I was that quiet kid who never spoke to anyone.
"Lucian-san, what section are you in?"
Lucian...san? Oh right, I forgot. People from the east use Japanese honorifics. I'm going to have to remember that.
"I think I'm in section 10."
"Wow, really? I'm going to be in the same section as you."
"Ok."
I took a quick glance at Hana. She had a frustrated pout on her face. What was she so bothered about?
"What section are you i-"
"Section 18."
"Looks like we're not in the same section."
Shin chuckled once more and Hana gave him an intense glare.
"Eek!"
Shin flinched and ran to the left side.
"S-see you at section 10 Lucian-san!"
He said his voice was fading away. Boy, he may look weak, but he is fast.
"By the way, where is section 18?"
"Right here."
"Huh?"
Section 18 is in front of the door? I inspected the interior of the room, or should I even call this a room. This place is like the size of a warehouse, no bigger than that.
"I-I see. Well, I guess I'll see you later."
"Goodbye, Lucian-san."
"Am I even older than you? Who knows, I might be Lucian-kun?"
"When were you born?"
"16th day of the 3rd month."
"I was born on the 2nd day of the 2nd month."
"So you're older than me, I guess I should be calling you Hana-san."
"P-please don't, it makes me sound old."
How amusing.
"Guess I'll see you later."
"Bye, Lucian-kun."
***
This place is too big. Like big, big. It took me 3 minutes to reach section 10.
When I arrived at section 10, Shin was seen sitting on a bench, getting picked on by what seemed to be 2 rich kids.
As I got closer, I could hear them hurling insults at Shin.
"What a loser, you can't even beat a little kid in a fistfight."
"Mystic eyes? More like useless eyes."
"C-can you guys sto-"
"Or what?! What are you going to do? Throw some ice at me?"
They said mockingly and even laughed. Looks like even the rich are douchebags in this world. Since Hana isn't here, I should deal with this.
"Hey, you two."
"Huh?"
They turned around and spotted me.
"How about you leave him alone? It's vulgar to pick on something that can't fight back."
Shin flinched. I'm sorry, Shin, but it's true.
"You, call us, vulgar? You shouldn't be talking kid, walking up to us with just a black tunic. Look at us! We're wearing enchanted accessories."
They had gold rings, necklaces, and bracelets that shone a variety of colors.
"Are you sure those aren't just vanity items?"
"H-how dare you! You dare insult a noble from the house of Vesh?"
"Vesh? Never heard of you."
Shin snickered as he heard this.
"YOU!"
The first noble threw a punch to my face, which I easily dodged. This guy couldn't control his punch and swung his fist into the other guy's face instead.
"AHH!!!!!"
"Oh shit, sorry broth-"
"What the fuck man?! Do I look like this mongrel?!"
"S-sorry, I'll get him this time."
This guy hurling insults at Shin that he can't fight, but he couldn't even stop his own punch? I don't think I'll need to activate my HUD. I can guess that they are at a lower level than me.
"Cmon now, you don't want to hit your brother again do you?"
"Bastard, I'll get you this time!"
He threw his fist at me, enraged by my provocation. If he was easily triggered by that insult, he is definitely not going to survive in a real fight. Oh wait, this is a real fight.
I'd dodge his fist again. He'd growl and continue to throw a slow attack rush.
"Youuuuuuuuu!!!"
I yawned in boredom. This guy is pretty slow.
"You're slow, I bet a child could dodge your punches."
Again, he got triggered and started throwing heavier punches that he couldn't control.
"HA!"
He performed a right hook, which I easily evaded. Since he couldn't control it, he stumbled onto the floor, making a faint thud.
"Hmm, I don't think I even need to fight back."
This time, not only did I trigger him, but I also triggered his brother. They both got up and glared at me with killing intent. Sadly, I wasn't even affected one bit.
"Youuuuuuu!!!"
"You what? If you want to say something to me, then say it already. Otherwise, you're just wasting your breath. It's important to control your breathing when fighting, you know."
Again, they responded to my taunt by rushing towards me and throwing heavy punches.
After a few punches, I realized that they weren't hitting each other on accident. Then I realized that they were somehow doing a coordinated attack and their attacks were becoming sharper and faster.
"Hehehe, you won't be dodging anymore."
"This is our aberrant skill, gradual assault-"
"-and solid strike."
Hmm, those don't sound like aberrant skills to me. They sound like things that most people could do.
"So you need 2 people to defeat 1 guy?"
"Tch."
"Shut up!"
They began punching faster. Then I felt one of them graze my shoulder.
They were beginning to go faster and faster. Maybe I underestimated these two.
So I began fighting back, which gave me the favor. I threw one punch, and that messed up their coordination. I jabbed one of them in the face, breaking his nose.
"Brother!"
Then I grabbed the other by the neck.
"Wow, that was easier than I expected. One punch and you guys are messed up."
"You!"
"This is pitiful, people have been watching you boast about how powerful you were and now you were defeated by a quote on quote mongrel."
I threw him at his brother, and I walked towards Shin.
"You alright?"
"That was awesome!"
I sighed.
"You shouldn't have people pick on you like that. By the way, why are you being picked on?"
"Well, haven't you heard of the weakest boy?"
"No, I lived under a canyon."
"Oh...well, that boy is me."
"...I see."
No wonder why he's always looked down upon.
"Lucian-san, look out!"
"Hmm?"
"TAKE THIS! LIGHTNING TEMPEST!!!"
"WATER SERPENT!!!"
I turned around and the two brothers were charging a spell at me.
"You kidding?"
I aimed my palm at them, and fire slowly materialized around my hand.
"Fireball? You are taking us too lightly!!!"
Then, as we were about to launch our spells at each other, the voice of a young lady yelled at us.
"That's enough!"
Then, in a flash, our spells were interrupted.
I glanced at the direction of where the voice came from and a familiar woman wearing the uniform of the hero academy walked up to us.
"There is no fighting in the testing chambers, if you're going to fight, take it in the courtyard."
This woman, she looks familiar. Her long black hair tied in a ponytail and had red strands at the end of her hair. Her green eyes were also familiar. She kind of reminded me of someone I know.
"S-shit, it's her."
"L-lets go, brother."
The two brothers finally ran off.
I bowed to the senior.
"Thank you."
"Lucy, did you have to cause a commotion before your first day of school?"
"Well, umm..."
Wait... did she just call me Lucy?
The woman chuckled as she noticed my expression. Now I know who this woman was.
"Long time no see, Lucy."
"For the last time, it's not Lucy, it's Lucian."
"But Lucy is a cute name."
Damn it, this lady is Mizuki. Mizuki Haruki.
