Surprise

The next morning I wake up with sunshine streaming through the window curtains. I slowly stretch my arms and legs and turn to look at Xavier's empty bed on the floor. I sit up and look around confused before sniffing the air as the smell of bacon becomes evident. I get out of bed and walk across the room to the doorway and peek out. I start going down the stairs and hear Xavier humming to himself. When I reach the kitchen he looks up while serving food onto our plates and gives me an award winning smile.

"Good morning sleepy head! I trust you slept well?" he continues fixing our plates and putting dirty dishes in the sink full of soapy water.

"Yes, I did. Thank you. You didn't have to do all this. I should be cooking for you."

"Absolutely not! You deserved some extra sleep after all the early hours you've worked. I had Beta Adam find some people to take over the chores, and he sent over some groceries and toiletries." he brings our plates to the table and pulls my chair out. I sit down and he sits beside me and we begin eating.

"This is delicious!" I say with a mouthful.

"I would hope so with how you're eating." he chuckles. I turn bright red and realize how unladylike I'm being. After we finish eating, Xavier takes our plates to the sink and starts washing the dishes. I help him rinse and dry and when we're done he pokes soap bubbles onto my nose. I'm surprised at first but then scoop up a large handful of bubbles and slap them into his face. He bursts out laughing and I begin giggling when I'm sure he isn't angry. After a minute he looks down at me and steps closer. He moves a strand of my hair behind my ear and rubs his thumb across my check. I nervously look away and remind myself to breath.

"Well I should probably go find Rebecca." I say quickly.

"Of course. I have a meeting to go to this morning, but later I'll help you move the rest of your stuff here." he smiles at me and we walk outside. I lock the door and turn to walk with Xavier before realizing Lacy is staring at us from the pack house.

"I'm going to go see if she's in the garden. I'll see you later!" I say as I wave goodbye and rush off. Xavier looks a little confused but waves goodbye before heading towards his office.

I search the garden but can't find Rebecca. I'm about to go back to the pack house when I hear a snicker behind me.

"Well look what we have here." I hear Lacy's snide voice say. I turn around and see her with Lauren and Maya behind her. I hear movement behind me and look to see two others. Taylor Evans, who is tall with dark hair and eyes, and Koda Maverickson, a blonde with shaggy hair and brown eyes. The 2 guys move closer as Lacy waltz closer.

"So what? As soon as Xavier frees you, you go pay him back with sexual favors? You think you can take him from me?" she says with a dark look in her eye. "Maybe Maya didn't teach you a good enough lesson." she then proceeds to punch me in the face. I reach up to feel blood, but Taylor and Koda grab my arms. The 3 girls start to throw punches wildly, hitting my face and body not caring how they hurt me. I become so weak they can't hold me up so the guys drop me to the ground. As soon as I hit Lacy shoves my face into the dirt.

"I bet you love the taste of that. Would you like more?" she laughs evilly. Lauren and Maya start digging the heels of their shoes into my back and I scream in pain. Koda kicks me in the stomach and I immediately become quiet as I struggle to breathe. Lacy then grabs the front of my shirt and begins to tear it off. I try to stop her but Taylor punches me in the face.

"Don't touch her you bitch." he says.

I let my arms fall to my sides as she rips my shirt off and exposes my bra. I try not to look at Koda and Taylor's hungry eyes as they pull my jeans off showing my underwear. Lauren and Maya laugh as they pull on my hair and punch me again and again.

"I bet you boys want to show this little slut a lesson don't you?" Lacy teases cruelly. I can barely move or open my eyes, but I see Taylor and Koda begin to remove their belts. I blink for what seems like forever but when I look again I see a shadowy figure throw Taylor into a tree. There's a sickening crunch and he doesn't move. The girls start screaming and run in the direction of the pack house. Koda stares wide eyed and full of fear as the figure moves towards him. Before I see what fate awaits Koda, I black out.

*Xavier's POV*

I'm in the middle of a phone call, when I realize I can no longer feel Haley's energy. It's just gone. I hang up without saying goodbye and rush into the main hall of the pack house. I see Rebecca studying and rush to her.

"Have you seen Haley?" I say frantically.

"What? No, why? What's going on?" she questions.

"I can't feel her energy." I say as a rush outside.

"Where was she going?" she asks as she follows behind me.

"She was looking for you in the garden, we have to find her." I continue running and when we come to an opening we see a boy around the age of 18. He has short black hair. His eyes are icy blue and he has tanned skin. He is very muscular and moves with confidence. I widen my eyes as I see the large silver and black wings attached to his back. I stop in my tracks and realize Rebecca has too. He's carrying Haley's limp and exposed body. Almost every bit of her beautiful pale skin is covered in dark purple brusies. Her face has blood all over it and is almost unrecognizable. I rush forward and take her from the boy's arms.

"We have to take her to the pack doctor." I quickly rush away, praying my mate lives.

*Rebecca's POV*

I'm frozen in place as Xavier takes Haley and runs to the doctor. I stay in place mesmerized by the stranger's face. I feel my wolf waking and I hear her say, "Mine." A small gasp escapes my lips as he moves forward looking at me curiously.

"What's your name?" he asks gently.

"R-Rebecca. Wha-who are you?" I stumble over my words.

"My name is Avery Bishop. I am a guardian Angel. I was sent to protect the last of the Smith bloodline. Her blood is very special." he says. I stare at him in confusion.

"Why... Why did my wolf imprint on you?" I demand as I feel the pull of the bond making me want to be in his arms. He chuckles.

"I'm guessing that would mean you're my mate." he says as he strides forward and closes the distance between us. He cups my face with his hands and moves his face close to mine. I inhale deeply, and find he smells like peppermint. He moves his lips to mine and sparks fly. He kisses me deeply and then pulls away leaving me wanting more.

"We should go find you're friend." he says, taking my hand and leading me to the doctor's house.

*Xavier's POV*

Dr. Valentina Martinez examines Haley's wounds closely.

"I'll need to do x-rays, but it seems like she has broken ribs, a broken nose, multiple fractures in her left arm, internal bleeding, and a possible collapsed lung. Do you know who did this?" she asks.

"No, not yet but I saw Taylor Evans body. He wasn't moving. Koda was trying to drag himself over to check on him. They're near the garden." I say. I mindlink Beta Adam and order him to take his son, Dean, and Cameron and Tyler Jones to capture Taylor and Koda and take them to the dungeons.

"Is she going to heal and be okay." I ask miserably. My wolf is internally growling and howling in pain from seeing his mates state.

"I'm not sure if she will wake up," Valentina says, "she has suffered terrible abuse. There may be head trauma. She's in for a long recovery if she recovers at all." When she finishes speaking the door opens and Rebecca and the stranger come in. My wolf becomes angered and wants questions immediately.

"Who are you and why did you have Haley?" I growl.

"As I told Rebecca, my name is Avery Bishop. I am a guardian Angel. I was sent to protect the last of the Smith bloodline. She is the key to defeating the enemies that rise against you." he says calmly.

"He is my mate!" Rebecca almost squeals. I look at her in confusion.

"I don't understand." I say.

"You will soon." he says simply.

"Do you know who did this to her?" I ask.

"Yes. The boy I killed, Taylor, and the other I injured, Koda, were going to rape her. Lacy, Lauren, and Maya were beating her and asked the boys to harm her."

"How do you know their names?" I say while trying to keep my wolf from coming out and tearing them all to shreds. I mindlink Beta Adam to also take the girls to the dungeons until I'm ready to punish them.

"I'm not sure how it works. The Moon Goddess just puts information into my head. I do as she asks." When he finishes speaking I nod and turn to Haley. My poor mate. The Doctor tells us to go home and she will inform us if Haley wakes. But I can't leave her side. So Valentina gives me a blanket and i fall asleep holding Haley's hand.

*4 Days Later*

*Haley's POV*

I can hear faint voices as I begin to slowly wake up. But what I see when I open my eyes leaves me reeling. I stare at their faces wondering how they can be here. Am I dead? My mother is looking at me lovingly, while my father is standing silently beside her. My brothers are all grinning at me.

"So nice of you to finally join us lazy bones!" Oliver says cheerfully.
