Chapter 29

Settling in for the evening Natalie saw Amber strip to nothing and she felt it might relax her to do the same since they were in their own privacy away from Sheila for the time being. Neither slept that night as their bodies came tangled to one another, it felt like heaven to be with Amber and share their love once more.

They slept the day away by skipping breakfast and lunch but at around six in the evening a knock startled Natalie felt Amber get out of bed, then heard the door click open as she whispered and as she started to drift off to sleep again Natalie heard arguments in the hallway that ended up with Sheila sending a message to her phone which read:

Pack bags, meet in your car, and hurry.

Natalie didn't like that text one bit as Amber came in the room with a pissed off look but tried to relax.

"What is wrong?" Natalie asked.

"My best friend and her new girlfriend are wanting to run as I just paid for an extra two nights here for us both to unwind and relax. I like this bed and breakfast and we had so much fun making love after all the stress we have been through with everyone that we deserve each other." Amber explained with frustration in her voice.

"I can give them my car and we can go get another one, it isn't like either of us are broke. Well, okay, I am near it but that is because the settlement of divorce money hasn't come through yet but we can get another vehicle." Natalie replied calmly as can be.

Natalie knew it wouldn't be that simple to convince Amber to hand over her car though she could hand the payments to Sheila.

"You can't simply hand over your car to them, that is wrong. I wish I had my truck then I knew they wouldn't leave." Amber said.

"Sheila could handle the payments while being with Shanna, it isn't that bad." Natalie replied still naked without bothering grabbing her clothes.

"No, and we are in the middle of nowhere, we can't simply get a car that easily. We are staying put and them two can figure it out." Amber responded as she climbed back into bed and didn't dare look at Natalie.

Natalie couldn't go back to sleep so she got dressed and headed downstairs to find something to eat as Sheila sat in the dining area picking at her dinner.

"Sheila, what is wrong?" Natalie asked.

"Shanna and Amber are not able to agree." Sheila said sadly.

"Amber is concerned with you being with her because she is on the run from something." Natalie explained.

"Her ex, same as all three of us. Trying to start a new life." Sheila replied, biting the inside of her cheek.

Natalie sat down and placed a hand on Sheila's forearm.

"Do you love Shanna?" Natalie asked

"Shanna is better than Dana and Jolene. I thought Dana loved me but was wrong and Jolene became controlling and everything else. Shanna is more than both of those ladies together." Sheila explained picking at her food still.

"That doesn't answer my question: do you love Shanna?" Natalie responded squeezing Sheila's forearm.

"I like her not sure if I love her." Sheila replied, finally eating something off her plate and avoiding eye contact.

"How long have you been seeing Shanna?" Natalie asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Um, after Jolene left and Dana was new to the area." Sheila answered nervously.

"A whole year if not two and you don't know if you love her?" Natalie replied in shrieks.

"How can I love someone like her after what Jolene and Dana put me through? I have kept her hidden from Amber for this reason. Natalie, you and Amber are finally getting somewhere in this life but as for me, I am unsure if I want to risk another chance at being in love. Shanna is more than I bargained for. I am not exactly sure where my life ends up." Sheila responded dreadfully.

"Sheila, you need to let her go if you can't love yourself or anyone else. You have led Shanna horribly through this whole fiasco. You need to decide for yourself if you can actually love because this is the worst I have ever seen in all my years of wanting to be happy." Natalie replied gripping Sheila's forearm.

Natalie watched as Sheila snatched her arm away then walked off into the direction that her and Shanna have been staying at. Natalie bent her head down as a waitress came by her.

"Would you like to order anything?" The waitress asked gently.

"A glass of whiskey." Natalie replied without thinking.

Natalie heard the waitress write down then stepped away. Natalie knew being honest would be a hard task and Sheila is so bullheaded that she won't listen to anyone else but Amber most days. Speak of the high cotton tail devil.

"Darlin', why are you drinking whiskey?" Amber asked.

"Because you're fucking best friend has no control of herself and her love life, did you know Shanna has been around since after Jolene and Dana being new here, she has lost herself." Natalie replied with anger.

"Wow, darlin', I know you and Sheila didn't see eye to eye at first but I think you are in love with the wrong woman." Amber responded as tears filled her eyes.

"What? No, Amber, you have that all wrong!" Natalie replied, fighting her own tears.

Natalie watched Amber run off upstairs this time, she knew whiskey wasn't going to save her endless battle of friendships and love. Natalie left money on the table, went up to their room and listened to Amber sob endlessly as she couldn't figure out what else to do. They were in the middle of San Antonio with no other line between them.
