'Ughhhhhhh it's so bloody hot out!' I
think to myself as I'm walking downtown
to the tattoo parlour. I hate having to wear these stupid masks but I put up with it because I don't want to risk getting myself or my grandpa sick. The heat wasn't enough to bring down my good mood though.
I'm going to get my NEVERMIND tattoo( identical to the one that one of
my biases Jimin from BTS has on the
right side of his rib cage) except that
mine will be purple and black.
I have been wanting to get this tattoo
for months and had finally saved up the money. Booking the appointment as
soon as I could.
I practically skipped down the
sidewalk as 'Jam Jam' by Seventeen
plays in my ears. I'm waiting at the lights waiting to cross when the song ends
and switches to 'Left and Right' also by Seventeen. Without thinking I start
dancing to the song doing the choreo
in public. Something I never do but I'm
in a good mood so fuck it lol. I look over
to the road to see a car full of girls
watching me.
4
I grin and shrug, continuing to dance,
even singing along a bit. They laugh
at me as the light changes and they
drive off. It's not that I'm bad at
singing or dancing that caused them to laugh. It's the fact that I was just
randomly dancing in public.
'Whatever' I thought,' nothing can ruin
my mood today.
I cross Wellington street and continue
to the tattoo parlour. Walking in I wave
to the lady at the front desk after using hand sanitizer. I'm a few minutes early
so I sit down on the couch.
"Hi, Luna how are you today? Excited
for your tattoo? You made sure to eat
first right?" She bombards me with questions.
"Hello, I'm pretty good today, how
about you? I am so excited for this
tattoo. I ate a big lunch today, chicken
and potatoes." I responded. She smiles
and nods.
5
"That's good. With a rib cage tattoo
you need to have a full stomach or you
might get sick. And we don't want that.
Just give him a few more minutes to
finish getting all set up and he will be
right with you!." She says before turning back to her computer. I nod.
I pull out my phone and start playing
one of my favourite games. The COVET fashion game. Basically they give you
little challenges with a story a certain
items or brands you need to use to complete the outfit and get the prize money. After voting on that challenge
ends if you get a score over 4.00 you
get a clothing item. You get gems at
4.50 and another item of clothing if
you get a score over 5.00.
You can even order real cloth at
the online covet shop and all the
clothes in the game are based off
of real items.
My COVET closet is worth $1,192,862.
I wish I owned 80% of the clothes in my Covet closet.
6
Brandon(my tattoo artist) walks up to
me. "Are you ready to go? Do you need
the bathroom first?" He asks.
"Actually yeah the bathroom would be a good idea." I say. He leads me to the back
of the shop where the bathroom is.
Before I go in he points to one of the
tattoo booths. "I'll be right there when
you are done." I nod at him, and shut the door behind me. I grin into the mirror.
'Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee I'm so excited!!!!"
I think to myself. I quickly go to the bathroom. Not wanting to waste any
time. I thoroughly wash my hands,
drying them with paper towel.
Grabbing my bag I walk out of the bathroom to the tattoo booth where
Brandon is waiting patiently. I smile,
and then realize that he can't see it
because I'm wearing a mask. I laugh
at myself.
7
"So what shade of purple were you
thinking of using I have several different shades right here for you to pick from?"
He asks.
I look at the six bottles he has sitting
out, thinking carefully. Finally I point to
a dark almost blood red purple colour.
I know that the shade will look perfect
with my skin tone. He nods. Putting the other shades away.
"Can you show me the photo so I can draw it out?"he asks.
I nod again. Then remember," oh yeah I was wondering if you could add his signatures the tattooist just some lines?" I ask him.
He laughs shaking his head.
"Sure I can do that, but I will have to do it above the nevermind tattoo, if I do it on
the softer area it won't turn out properly
it's better to do it over the rib cage. Is that okay?" He asks. I agree.
8
I take out my phone going to the nevermind photo first and he carefully draws it out on transfer paper. Then I
show him the signature which he traces.
He redoes it a couple times until it's
perfect. Then he has me adjust my top
so that he can do the tattoo.
When that's done he rubs a bit of
Vaseline on my side. Placing the paper
on my skin he wipes it to transfer the drawing onto my skin. Then does the
same with the signature. After that is
done and we check that the positioning
is where I want it in the mirror he has
me sit down on the tattoo table/bed
turning me so that I am laying down
in the best position for him to do the
tattoo.
"Alright lest get started." He says. I
chuckle nervously, knowing full well
that this was going to hurt like a bitch.
I nod and he starts up the tattoo
machine. The loud buzz mixes with
the rock music playing in the
background.
9
"Are you ready? I'm going to start with a small like first to make sure that you can handle it!" He says. And I nod. I wince slightly as he touches the needle to my
skin and starts the first line. The needle retreats.
"How was that? Is it okay? Was It
bearable? Can I continue?" He asks.
"It wasn't too bad. Go ahead. I'm ready!"
I say. 'I will get this tattoo no matter how much it hurts!' I think to myself as he continues the tattoo.
Twenty minutes later he finishes the line work for the
nevermind tattoo and completes the signature. Before turning the machine
off.
I look over at him eyebrows raised.
"Why did you stop?" I ask.
He chuckles," I'm giving you a quick
break before I start in on the shading.
"Ohhhhh! Okay haha," I laugh.
"Yeah so if you need to go out for a
smoke or anything now is the time.
Because once I start shading I won't
stop till it's done!" He states.
10
"I actually don't smoke, I'm allergic to tobacco. But I will come stand outside."
I say. He nods grabbing a price of
plastic wrap he covers the tattoo
sticking it to the vaseline.
" Cover it with your shirt we don't want
it in the light yet." He tells me and I
carefully do as he asked. He leads the
way back to the front door and we go outside.
"I'm a little surprised you are handling
the pain so well, I think this is the first
time I've tattooed a girls ribs without
her complaining or groaning the whole
time. But you haven't made a sound."
He says curiously.
I laugh loudly. "I'm no stranger to pain,
I've just gotten used to it by now." I say.
explaining that I do martial arts and
Played rugby. "In high school I had the coach for the guys wrestling coach
begging me to join the team."
11
"She even tried to get my foster mom
to convince me but Lisa said no
because I was already doing multiple martial arts and playing rugby." He
looks surprised. I laugh again.
" it's like Jay Park's song FSU, ' look
at their faces. Didn't know I could fuck
shit up !' Ahh it's a kpop song haha you wouldn't know it!" I say when he gives
me a funny look.
"But yeah pain isn't new to me, as
specially when you have been kicked
in the ribs and tackled as many times
as I have!" I exclaim. Making him laugh.
"Have you ever been in a fight outside
of your classes?" He asks. I shake my
head.
"No we are taught not to use it for
anything other than self defence
unless your like or someone else's life depends on it." I reply bluntly.
12
"Oh okay that makes sense. So what
belts are you at? if I you don't mind me
asking?"
"I am currently a red belt in karate. A
blue belt in taekwondo. A purple belt
in Japanese jiu-jitsu. A brown belt in
Brazilian jiu-jitsu. And a blue belt in
kickboxing. I have several medals and
Trophies." I say listing the belts off.
"Wow those are all high belts that
takes a lot of work and dedication!"
He says in awe.
I nod. " I plan to stay below a black
belt/the highest belt in all of them
though, because once you hit black
belt you have to register your hands
and or feet as legal weapons, which I
don't want to do because then I
wouldn't even be allowed to defend
myself properly because you can't
use weapons. Its really stupid." I state.
13
"I mean your plan makes sense so I
can see why you wouldn't want to do
that, are you good to go back in?" He
asks as he finishes his cigarette.
I agree and we head back in using the
hand sanitizer again. We head to the
back and he puts on black latex tattoo gloves while I readjust my shirt before taking the plastic wrap off of the
tattoo. I lay back down in the same
position as before and he starts
up the machine again.
Once he is all ready he makes sure
that I am good to go. I nod and he
starts tattooing again carefully
filling in the black parts of the
tattoo. 10 minutes into the shading
and our phones go off with an
emergency alert
14
🚨🚨🚨 Emergency Alert 🚨🚨🚨

🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨
I look at Brandon and he laughs.
Don't worry we have a surge
protector you won't get
electrocuted today. I will keep
tattooing until the power goes out."
He say and continues to shade my
tattoo. 30 minutes pass and he
finally finishes the tattoo. Cleaning
it carefully before Letting me get up.
15
He walks me over to a full body
mirror and I turn so that I can see it.
It's so perfect that it makes me tear
up a little bit.
Even though it looks backwards to
me I know that it's just because it's
a mirror image. I turn and thank
Brandon. He nods.
"No problem haha. It's my job to
make sure that I do the best I can to
make people happy with the results
of their tattoos. Don't want to get a
bad review. Because all it takes is
one and your reputation is screwed.!"
"No kidding. It takes five years to
build a good reputation and five
minutes to ruin it. Or a Karen having
a bad day!" I say trying not to laugh
at the last part. I lose that battle as
soon as I look at him to see him
doubled over laughing. I grin.
16
When he finally finishes laughing
he wipes my tattoo down again and
covers it with a sheet of Sandierm transparent dressing(a clear plastic material that sticks to your skin like
medical tape. But it's breathable)
I pull my shirt back into place and
adjust my bra carefully so that it's
not sitting on the tattoo. I grab my
Earbuds out of my bag and plug
them into my phone putting one
in my ear. I checked my phone
seeing that there was no update on
the storm. But that could be good
or bad.
I had already paid for the tattoo the
week before so I didn't need to wait
around. I said goodbye and thank
you walking outside. The first thing
I notice is that it is surprisingly dark
out. It's only 2:30 pm.
17
'What the fuck is going on,' I think to
myself. I look up to see a dark
blue-grey sky with flashes of light
going through it. It took me a
second to realize that it wasn't the
sky it was a massive layer of clouds.
It was a little scary because it looks
solid.
I shrugged and turned my music on.
I started heading towards home when
I realized that I needed to get
something from Shoppers Drug Mart.
So I turn back the other way and
continue walking. I walk down Dundas
to Richmond street and turn to the
right.
A couple minutes later I reach
Shoppers. Making sure that my mask
isin place I walk in going staring to the
feminine hygiene aisle. Stopping I
grab a box of UbyKotex tampons, and
head to the self checkout. I double
the bag and place the tampon box
inside after paying for it.
18
' I always feel embarrassed when
that's all I buy but whatever.' I think
and head outside and start walking
home. I make it back in front of the
tattoo parlour when a hand lands
heavily on my shoulder. I try not to
freak out. Suddenly I'm being spun
around as a large hand enters my
vision smashing me in the jaw with a
sickening crunch and I know right
away that my jaw is broken.
And then he's gone. I can see him
running away. My vision starting to
go blurry. All of a sudden there's a
blinding flash of light and a searing
pain on my spine as I collapse to the
ground I hear screaming and shouting. Someone yelling my name over and
over. Sirens sound in the distance
getting closer and closer, until the
sound is practically deafening to my
ears.
19
I scream silently as it was all I could
do. The paramedics rush over to me
And I clutch my purse closer to my
body. They start asking Brandon
and Angie questions. My name age.
If they happened to have my
emergency contact, Angie runs back
inside to get my paperwork for them.
They then proceeded to ask what had happened.
"She was walking by and suddenly this
huge cracked out man grabbed her
spun her around and hit her. I think
her jaw might be broken. I was just
rushing out to help her when
suddenly a huge bolt of lightning
shot down from the sky and struck
her on the back right between her shoulders. Then she hit the ground
and we called you. We tried to get her attention. But she didn't respond."
"The poor thing didn't deserve this.
She is lucky to be alive. She just
finished getting a tattoo 20 min ago."
Angie said animatedly to the
paramedics and firemen.
"Oh by the way her grandfather
doesn't know that she was getting a
tattoo so could you leave that part
out when you call him please."
Angie asked.
The paramedics nod and agree.
20
The paramedic turns to me. Only a
foot away from me.
"Luna, can you hear me? If you can
move your hand or foot please. I
know it hurts. But please do this for
me!" He says calmly.
I see his hand enter my line of sight
and grab it without thinking.
He gasps in surprise.
" looks like this one is a fighter, she
doesn't want to give up. That's good
you will need that. Now we have to
move you, it's going to hurt, a lot. Try
to stay awake if you can." He tells me.
I squeeze his hand to let him know
that I understood.
On the count of three we are going to
lift you up onto the stretcher we have
to place you on your stomach. Try
not to tense your body or it will hurt
more." he says. I squeeze his hand.
'I'll try." I think to myself. As the edges
of my vision go black.
21
I feel four sets of hands on my body.
One on my feet one at my knees and
two at my shoulders.
"Alright all at once now. Go slow be as gentle as you can be, she's in enough
pain as it is. Ready? After three. One!
Two! Three! Up!" He says as they lift
me. The pain increases ten times over,
I manage a gut wrenching scream
that cuts out halfway through as
everything goes dark and I black out
from the pain.
Paramedics POV (after I pass out)
"Jesus Christ this poor girl. Check
her pupils I'm pretty sure she's out
cold." The head paramedic says.
"That scream gave me chills.
Especially when it cut out all of a
sudden like that!" One of the firemen
says shivering.
22
The paramedic checking her eyes
looked shocked and turned back to
his superior.
"Um sir. Her iris's... I they..."
"Oh for fuck sakes spit it out man!"
"Her iris's are almost completely
covered by her pupils. And the only
parts you can are purple!" He says
finally.
"Wait what. Let me see!" The older
one says walking over to her prone
body. Lifting her eyelid he takes a
look, shining his light at her eye.
The pupil barely responsive due to
its size.
"What the fuck! I think she's in a
coma. Hurry strap her down we need
to get her to the hospital." Turning to
Angie and Brandon," thank you for
your help, we will take it from here."
He said.
23
They load her body into the ambulance carefully closing the doors they take
off in the direction of the hospital
sirens blaring. To get the other cars
out of the way. Ten minutes later they
reach the hospital running her into the building. Finding the head doctor they
explain what happened to her in detail.
Adding in the part about the pupils too.
The doctor checks her eyes noticing the same thing. His light reflects something shiny in her hair.
'What on earth is that?' He thinks to
himself. Looking closer using the light
he notices that it is spreading through
her hair.
'What the hell. Her hair is turning silver
and white. Not just that but it's growing
at a rapid pace. I've never seen or
heard of this before. Maybe it's because
of the lightning.' He analyzes to himself.
24
"Oh also her jaw was broken by a huge
cracked out man right before. We
already gave his descriptions the police."The head paramedic says to
him.
The doctor carefully pulls off her mask,
What they see stuns all of them. Her
clearly broken jaw was realigning itself
as it healed at an unnatural speed.
They all stared in shock and awe.
Taking only a couple more minutes
it pops back into place as if it had
never been broken. Leaving them all scratching their heads in confusion.
"It has to be the lightning, it must
have given her super healing or
something. But why is she not
waking up?" The paramedic asks.
25
"Getting hit by lightning does a lot
of damage not just to her skin and
muscles but every inch of her body.
The muscle veins and nerves too not
to mention her brain. I'll take it from
here. Watch over her myself. Oh do
you have her emergency contact
Information? I need that so I can
contact them and let them know so
that they don't think she's dead in a
ditch somewhere." The doctor says.
"Oh right! Here you go. Looks like
it's her grandfather. Take good care
of her. She's a fighter. She was still
conscious when we got to her.
Actually she was conscious until we
lifted her to put her on the stretcher.
She's so strong." The paramedic
says after handing the doctor the
paper. Then they help transfer her
to a hospital bed wipe down the
stretcher and head out.
26
The doctor picked up the phone and
Was about to dial the grandfathers
Number when the paramedic came
back.
"Oh by the way the tattoo people
said that her grandfather doesn't
know that she was getting a new
tattoo so could you do me a favour
and not tell him that part just say
she was walking downtown or
something?" The paramedic said.
The doctor nods. "I understand. I
won't mention it. Thank you."
The doctor turns back to the
phone and dials the number on
the paper. It rings a few times then
goes straight to voicemail. The
doctor hangs up and calls back. Again
three rings and straight to voicemail, hanging up he thinks 'I'll call one
more time and if he doesn't pick up I'll
call back later in the day.'
Two rings and it picks up this time.
27
