Third Eye Blind

"Arghhh…" her muffled scream echoed underwater.

The sound of her voice bounced off the sides of the tub and vibrated the water inside. She lifted her head up and struggled to contain her slushie of emotions. Wrath had been bottling up her worries and problem and kept it to herself.

Lilith and Eros were the only ones who had been by her side through her rough childhood. Her grandmother left the world and now she had forsaken her ghost friend's company as well. Though she had promised to be more open with the brothers, she still couldn't bring herself to it.

After a thorough clean, Wrath drained the water and dried herself with a towel. Just as she was about to open the door, a sharp ringing shriek pierced her ears. She held up her hands to shield herself from the noise. Her head spun and ache. It felt like hundreds of needles were pricking her skin.

Her hands reached for the toilet bowl as she hunched over it. She felt a convulsion at the pit of her stomach, but her throat was tied shut. The pain forced a tear out of her left eye, and she winced to hold back the noise trying to escape from the tip of her tongue.

"Hargh… Ah-ack!" she vomited blood.

Traces of black flecks were suspended on the surface. She looked into the toilet bowl through her tears.

'Something's wrong. This is not my spell,' she thought.

Wrath flushed the toilet and washed her face to mask her pain. She heard a couple of heavy footsteps outside of the bathroom door.

"Hey, are you okay in there?" Pride knocked.

"Yeah, just my gastric. Don't worry about it," she opened the door.

"Ah!" he looked away. "I'm sorry. I didn't know you were still in your towel."

"Hmm?" Wrath looked down at herself.

"U-uhm, I'll let you get changed," he shifted away from the door. "I think I'll go back home tonight. I need to check on my mom."

"Oh, okay. I'll see you off after I put on some clothes."

"No, no. It's fine, Lust can walk me down alone. Your trip must've been pretty taxing, huh? It's been a while since your gastric act up."

"Yea, maybe. I'll be fine."

"Tell me if he's not feeding you well. I'll rough him up."

"There's no need for that. I can take care of myself."

They both knew the sentence was a lie.

"Ehem…" he cleared his throat; still not looking in her direction. "Uh… Well, I guess I'm off now. See you at school. Don't forget about the final exam next week."

"F*ck, I almost forgot about that."

"Oh, and I have a baseball game this Friday. I was planning to set up a group meeting after. Sloth requested to hold it at– "

"Sure, I know a spot close to his place. We can take your car and Gluttony's."

"Okay, sounds good. I'll remind everyone about it on Thursday."

"Drive safe. Tell Lust that I'll be sleeping early today."

"O-oh, yeah. I gotcha. Dinner was great by the way. Thanks."

"Pride! Are you all packed up?" Lust's voice boomed from the kitchen.

"Yeah! Be right with you!" he replied. "I better go before he bugs us even more. See you. Get some rest."

Wrath smiled at her friend before entering her room and locking the door. She dropped to the ground and sobbed; her wet hair covering the top portion of her body. Her hands covered her face as she sniffled in the dim bedroom.

Grief turned to anger. She shot up and grabbed a throwing knife. The blade flew and sunk into a group photograph of The Sins that she had taped on her closet door. It was taken during Pride's first baseball game.

He had hit a homerun that won the game for their high school. The whole group was seated next to each other and they were screaming at him from the bleacher. It was one of the few times Wrath had been hysterical over school-related activities.

Although the group was composed of people with different personalities and interests, Pride's baseball game was one of the times they agreed to set their opinions aside.

The happy little memories brought fury to Wrath's chest. It ignited and soared throughout her body. She was set ablaze by her own regret. She promised herself she wouldn't get attached to feelings and memories of the past; a promise to stay alone, to not get hurt and abandoned.

The betrayal made her cheeks flushed red. Now that the house was empty, she finally let go of the chain that restrained her and screamed.

"I hate you!" she bellowed at the closet mirror with tears streaming down her face. "Why do you have to make it so hard to live?!"

Wrath sat on her wooden floor with one hand on her towel and the other holding a Kunai. She held the knife to the ground with its tip pointing up to the ceiling. She took in a sharp inhale, jerked her head back, closed her eyes, and drove it straight for the knife.

* Woosh *

A gust of strong wind stopped her head from touching the sharp edge of the blade and cracked her mirror with its rumble. She opened her eyes and saw how close she was from ending her own life. Her strong grip became a trembling grasp. As if involuntary, her fingers loosened as the Kunai dropped to the ground.

"Thy life is not thy own," a buttery female voice whispered to her ears.

Wrath's eyes widened, "B-but, how can I hear you?"

"Seeketh within thyself and fret not for thy future," the voice faded.

She felt her body getting released from an invisible hold. It had been a while since she was scared sh*tless by something supernatural. Like a slap to the face, her short conversation woke her up. She set her Kunai aside and managed to get back on her feet.

'Thy life is not thy own…' she repeated in her brain.

The puzzling words of her spirit doppelganger and her mysterious visit. Her appearance was a rare occurrence as Wrath hadn't summoned her after their first encounter.

The voice kept playing in her head as she tried to make sense of what just happened. She reached for the closet door to grab her clothes when something fell out from the tip of the sunken blade she had thrown earlier.

Wrath picked up the item and mumbled, "Cupid…"
