We got to the house and opened the front door to faintly see his mom in the kitchen cooking something over the stove. After we closed the front door and took our shoes off, we walked towards the kitchen and started to hear music playing and her voice getting louder and louder as she sang. I wish I could say she sang like an angel but if I had to be honest it sounded like on of those offbeat songs that just don't sound right. I never had the heart to tell her because she always looks like she's having so much fun and that's all that matters anyways.
Parker slid in the room and started singing loudly with her As he went in for a hug. She turned to him shocked that he was home and gave a hearty laugh as she continued singing and cooking. I watched them from the background and smiled warmly as I put my bag down on the floor next to the couch nearby. I sat on the arm of the couch and quietly hummed along, swaying side to side to the beat.
Being here reminded me of how it was with my family.
I was grateful they took me in after my family died in the accident on New Years Eve when I was 11. I can't believe its been three years since then. Not a day goes by when I don't think of how silly my father and mother were or how smart my brother was.
Everything changed that day.
I shook my head and came out of my mind and stood up trying to shake the feeling creeping up my skin thinking back. I peeked my head into the kitchen to say my hello to Peter's mom and quickly grabbed my bag and headed up the stairs to my room before she started asking me questions about my day at school. I felt like my social meter was drained for the day and wanted to finally catch up on sleep.
I reached my room and threw my bag in the corner of my room as I entered. I plopped into the chair near my computer set up, pushed myself up to it and logged in. Scratching my head I opened up assignments I needed to complete and became engrossed in studying.
It wasn't till I noticed the sun was gone when I decided to look at the time. I can't believe I let them time fly by, it was already 8pm! I got up from my seat and semi-jogged down the stairs to see Parker sitting at the dining room table with his plate of dinner and mine sitting in the empty spot next to him. He gave me a loop-sided smile and looked at his watch as I went to sit down next to him.
"Why didn't you come get me dude?"
"Thought you might have fallen asleep you were upstairs all day Rosey."
"I'm sorry I made you wait", I paused, "wait a second, why didn't you eat without me your food is probably cold by now."
He simply shrugged and started eating.
I rolled my eyes, I will never understand this boy but I'm grateful he is in my life.
We ate and had a small conversation before his alarm on his phone went off for bed. We cleaned up and headed upstairs for bed. Once we reached our rooms we said our goodnights and headed in. I hopped into my bed and turned to my side as I looked out of my window to watch the trees rustle in the howling wind outside. Hopefully I could sleep well tonight, I thought to myself as I closed my eyes and allowed myself to fall into a deep slumber.
