Chapter Six-The Accident, Rose

I got into a stall and let myself cry for a second before taking a deep breath and cleaning my tears and snot away. His words still echoed in my head as I walked out of the establishment to the car. My brother waited by the front seat car door and refused to talk to me, let alone look my way. Still upset I walked over to the other side of the car's backseat. My dad came up with the groceries and looked between my brother and I and sighed.

"Yeah no, you both are going to sit together and learn to talk it out. Let's go Mark, to the back you go." He stated as he put the groceries away in the trunk of the car. Mark groaned and walked to the backseat, opened the door and got in slamming the door shut. I put my seatbelt on and noticed Mark didn't. I tried saying one thing but I was ignored. Still refusing to look at me, I would take quick glances at him and then look back out the window watching street lights turn on as we passed them by. This is not how I wanted my night to end before the new year.

His words still echoed in my head when my thoughts were interrupted by my brother finally speaking, "What is this idiot doing?" He said out loud. It wasn't loud enough over my dads music for him to hear Mark but I did. I squinted in the darkness off the street and saw a light start to get dangerously closer to us.

"Um dad?" I tried to speak up loudly so dad could hear me. Dad turned down the music and glanced at me from the mirror.

Before dad could answer me Mark shouted, "DAD LOOK OUT!"

The light became a vehicle closing in on us. Dad tried to turn and get out of the way but it was too late. Mark who did not have his seatbelt on jumped quickly on top of me to shield me. Confused and terrified as to why he would do such a thing I tried to speak but before I could utter out a word he looked me in the eyes with a sad look and said,

"I'm sorry Rosey, I love you."

Everything went black afterwards.
