CHAPTER 7

"Del, I'm having a party at my house tonight, are you free?" Nikita glances over at me.

"A party for what?" I scrunch my eyebrows together.

"Just a small get together with family and friends" right before walking into maths she turns to face me "My brother is turning 7 so it's a birthday for him. We'll talk about it after class".

I nod my head and turn to go to my seat, surprisingly though Kane is already there.

Oh yeah, the study session after school. I completely forgot. Asher has football practise today which means it'll just be me and Kane.

Do I really want that?

I get brought out of my train of thought when Kane whispers beside me "Meet me after school at 3 by the lockers".

"I can't" Kane scrunches his eyebrows and it looks like he's about to talk but I start talking before him "Nikita is having a party tonight".

He nods his head slowly then goes "What time?"

"I'm assuming around 6 but I don't know yet".

"Look we can study for an hour or so then I can-".

"Yes, Mr. Allen have you got anything to add?" Me and Kane peer up at Mr. Brown.

"No sir".

Mr. Brown nods his head at him then he gazes over at me "What about you Miss Martin?"

"No sir".

"Right then pay attention".

"I'll talk later about this" Kane says and we both start paying attention.

I walk out with the girls after class and ask Nikita when the party is. Just for the record, I'm a psychic for being right. Since it was a Friday, mum or dad shouldn't have a problem but what do I do with the Kane situation. I really need to talk to him about this.

"Delilah" I turn around to the source… It's Kane.

He catches up "So like I was saying, we can study for an hour then I can drop you at Nikita's place".

I gawk at him "You didn't want to be with me right because I'm 'obsessed' with you, then this is supposed to be a treat for you".

"You're right but come on" his eyes were practically begging as we came face to face outside his class "I said I'm sorry right".

I sighed and start to walk off "Fine but at 3 and we're going to my place".

Where is this guy? It's been 15 mins and he's still not here.

I wait another 5 mins then start walking off.

"Delilah!" I turn around annoyed just to see Kane walking and grinning. I see Mia, his ex, walking behind him fixing her hair.

I don't know why but that made me more annoyed. I shake my head and continue walking off. "Delilah! Hold up man".

Keep walking girl.

I hear Kane's breathing right me beside me "woah you walk fast".

"I don't feel well, can we cancel the plan" I say looking away, so Kane doesn't tell that I'm lying.

"I knew she wasn't well baby, she looked pale all day" Mia's annoying shrill voice enters my ears, (emphasising on the 'all'); don't know about the pale all day but I am definitely going red with anger right now.

"Thanks for your concern" My voice is filled with sarcasm.

"My pleasure love and whilst you're at it, maybe fix your hair an-".

I stop in my tracks at this and snap at her "Mia, you're really the one in need of fixing your hair and closing the buttons of your shirt which is letting your golden gems show".

All I feel like doing is running away so that's exactly what I do. It's a 20 mins run. That's better than her suggestions to fix me.

"DELILAH STOP!" I hear Kane say but I don't stop.

I let all my thoughts flow at once as my feet pound on the floor.

Why do I care who he's with?

Who does she think she is?

What does he see in her?

I reach my house and slow down to find my keys. A car pulls up and I realise it's Kane as he steps out and starts walking towards the house.

I turn back to find my key and start opening the door.

"Delilah! Stop acting weird and tell me what's wrong?" Kane reaches the door as well, but I block his way to enter.

"Nothing is wrong" I look down whilst talking "didn't you hear your girl I was pale so clearly I am sick".

"Don't lie to me. Mia thinks that about everyone, learn to ignore people" I hear Kane sigh before talking again "you lashing out at her definitely gave the reaction she was looking for".

I scrunch my eyebrows and look up to face him "Well… I'm good at ignoring you right".

"Yeah you are but come on what's wrong?" His voice goes gentler.

I just sigh giving up and start walking in "Nothing, let's just start".

"If this is usually you, acting moody then I think it'll be hard for us to be friends".

"Friends? Thought we're enemies" I turn and raise my eyebrow.

He starts to chuckle and shakes his head "no, not enemies. We're civil. But you're just not someone I'd hook up with either".

I enter the kitchen "Ew, not that I want to, but what's wrong with hooking up with me?"

"Nothing, just not someone that I would want to hook up with. You know, no explanation, just a feeling".

I nod my head and try to ignore the hurt "water?"

"Yeah sure" Kane pushes himself up and sits on the counter.

"Don't get comfortable, we're going into the living room".

"Say the word and I'll obey your order, your highness".

I start laughing to which Kane joins along to and I hand Kane his water.

"Follow me then sir" I say still giggling and give a slight courtesy.

I glance over at the time and realise I have only half an hour to get ready and to leave. I haven't even picked my outfit.

"Damn it! I'm going to be late" I get up from the dining table and start running upstairs.

"REMEMBER, IM DROPPING YOU! STOP STRESSING!" I hear Kane shouting from downstairs.

"Kane, I haven't picked my clothes so I will be late" I say panicking and start going through my clothes.

I eventually just pick my black maxi which has red florals on it with my usual ankle boots. I brush out my hair and start doing my usual makeup. I try to keep it as natural as possible, but my mind thinks that a red lipstick is 'natural'. I put my jewellery on and start running downstairs.

"LET'S GO! LET'S GO! LET'S GO!" whilst running I slip on the bottom of my dress, but Kane balances me.

"Careful" he says with me still in his arms.

I blush and start thinking clumsy = Delilah.

"Thanks, but let's go, I'm going to be late" I start leaving and I hear Kane laughing.

"What's so funny?" I say whilst locking the door and start following Kane but then stop in my tracks "do I look weird? Is that the reason?"

Before getting into the car Kane looks at me and furrows his eyebrows "What? No. You look beautiful. I just found you being bossy funny".

I start walking and sit in the car whilst slightly blushing "Thank you and hey that's mean".

Kane chuckles and starts the to drive off.

"Have some confidence in yourself, love" Kane says, looking at his rear-view mirror.

I slap his hand.

"Ow! No hitting the driver".

"Well, don't call me love then" I start giggling and he just shakes his head looking on ahead.

I look at my reflection in the mirror, he's right…

All I need is confidence.
