CHAPTER 12

The sound of someone tiptoeing amid the dark, wakes me up but I decide to just fall back asleep until I hear…

"Shhh, you're going to wake her up" yup, that's mum.

"I'm up, don't worry you can make noise" I yawn as I sit up "how was work?"

"It was good, how was school?"

"Eh, it was alright".

Mum sits opposite me and starts speaking again hesitantly, "honey we may have to move again in a year's time".

If I wasn't awake before, I'm definitely awake now "WHAT?"

"Yeah but it might be just your father and I, since you and Asher are in a critical stage of your education" Mum clarifies.

I nod my head slowly trying to comprehend my emotions "does Asher know?" I eventually say.

"Hey kiddo, I was thinking of ord-" dad looks up from the pizza pamphlet and gazes between mum and me before sighing "Jade told you".

I scoff, "Yup, what a delight to hear after I wake up".

"Look, Kiddo it isn't definite yet so don't stress about it".

"Well dad, there's a chance".

"It's not decided that's why we haven't told Asher either yet" mum adds in

"Look ki-" dad starts to say, before Asher enters the living room and everyone falls silent.

"What's wrong?" Asher questions as he scans the room.

I interject before Asher gets suspicious, "Oh, nothing, dad was asking if we want pizza".

"Hell yeah, I'm starving!" Asher exclaims as he takes a seat on the sofa and scrolls through the tv.

"I'm going to go freshen up as we wait for the pizza" I say as I get up and leave.

MOVE! AGAIN! Why? Oh why? Oh why?

Every time that I finally start to fit in, we move. Yeah sure, mum said only dad and her will move but things won't be the same without them, especially since Asher is applying for university this year and I'm applying next year. Actually, things will work out since I might take on a part time job and get busy so I might not even notice the absence of them.

I look out the window and see the droplets of stream rolling down the window, the trees are becoming barren as the leaves shed from them and are left to just crunch under a mere humans feet, the poor birds are left to find their way around as they look for a place. Once again. We're like birds, trying to find our way around this world too, for some it's easier than others but we all eventually find a place.

I hear a gentle knock on the door before it opens reveals mum.

"Hey, are you okay?" she queries.

"I'm fine" I reply before looking outside again.

"Honey, I know it's not easy finding your way around school every time we move but that's just what we do".

I sigh "I get that mum, but things just won't be the same if we move again".

"You're right but it's not decided so don't worry".

"Yeah" I get up from my spot and walk towards the door "let's go and have the pizza before the boys finish it all.

Mum laughs and follows along.

-----

I really shouldn't have slept in the afternoon because now I can't sleep. Maybe I should revise for that mock exam coming up before Christmas, which means I only have 3 weeks to study. Damn it!

I gather all my study equipment and start to go over my content after making a list of what I needed completed before the exam. Organisation is key!

10 mins in and my phone is distracting me.

Hahaha that meme is so true!

Ewwww, why did that girl do that!

Awwww, a baby! I want one too!

I check my messages and realise I only have notifications from the girls group chat. That's when I see Kane's name.

Should I message? Should I not?

Maybe I should just message sorry and see where that leads me. What's the worst that can happen right?

Delilah: 'I'm sorry and I really missed the revision session of ours'.

Ewww what is that comment.

Delete!

I decide to put my phone away and study properly this time. Okay, so there's intermolecular bonds between water molecules which causes cohesion tension in plants. I wish everything were this easy to grasp. Next topic.

Ding!

I look over at my phone and it's a message from Kane…

Kane: 'Me too, I saw your notification but was waiting for you to text again, but you didn't so I'm messaging'.

Oh my gosh… Kane messaged… PLUS HE'S SAYING THAT! HE MISSED ME!

Okay, so he missed the revision, but revision does mean me.

He can't know I'm thinking this, or it will ruin everything. He's just a friend, nothing else. Not even a friend… More like an acquaintance. Yeah, an acquaintance sounds good.

Delilah: 'Cool'.

Short and sweet!

Kane: 'You can be so boring to talk to'.

We're back to square one but this is good. This means we are friends who can have banter.

Delilah: 'Well maybe it might be that you're not fun to talk to'.

SAVAGE!

Kane: 'Me and my friend have a bet on who can get the most girls and I'm winning so is the problem me or you'.

Delilah: 'A bet?'

Am I a bet too?

Kane: 'Yeah it's so easy'.

Delilah: 'Sounds fun'.

Kane: 'Yeah, isn't it your bedtime?'

Phewft! I am not a kid!

Delilah: 'Might be yours'.

Kane: 'No, but good night Miss good little Christian girl'.

What the hell!

Delilah: 'Good night'.

I put my phone away and try to revise some more of Biology. The keyword being TRY. That conversation with Kane has mentally drained me. I glance over at my phone once again and realise it's 12:39. Well, I did sleep earlier but I don't want to be tired during my classes. I pack my bag for subjects on a Thursday, brush my teeth, do my prayer and jump into bed.

A bet? I have a slight crush on a person who places bets on how many girls he can get. Yes, I finally admitted that I have a crush on Kane and placing bets on girls doesn't mean he doesn't respect them, right?

My eyes start getting heavy and last few thoughts come into my mind before I drift off.

It's a silly little crush that will go away with time. I don't get feelings quickly and Kane Allen is definitely not the person that I should go for. But maybe just maybe he would like me.

Is that possible?
