Chapter 15 - Super Powers?

They continued their walk after that bizarre event. Mr.Kooper was walking ahead of them with an exited expression on his face. Suddenly he stopped and turned back.

Looking at her with an expecting eyes he said, "Okay, we need to know for sure."

"We don't need to know Mr. kooper. Just..... Let's just forget that happened and move on with our lives, shall we," Reya whispered as she walked past him.

"But aren't you curious? You got super powers. Like that's AWESOME,"

Mr.Kooper was having an exited expression, just like a kid in a candy shop.

Rolling her eyes, Reya stooped and gazed into his shiny blue eyes. "I'm not curious," she said in a monotonous voice and walked ahead.

"Come on Reya, we need to know that if it was just a onetime thing or not," Her mom said, standing next to him and giving her a strict look.

"But mom...."

"Ah ah ah. I am not listening to any of your excuses. We need to know what that was and If that's safe for you or not," Momma Jade said with her arms crossed over.

Turning back dramatically, Reya just peered at her with her eyes narrowed.

"Just admit it. You are curious as well," her mom said, giving her a bleak stare.

Her lips rose in a small arc. "I have to admit. I am a little curious," Reya said with a small smile on her face.

"I am too!" little Mina exclaimed, holding her mom's hands.

"Okay fine," she whined trotting over to them.

"I hope she has super powers like Flash," Mr.Kooper silently whispered to her mum.

"I do not have super powers like Flash," she exclaimed.

"There is only one way to know," he smirked at her and Mina.

Whatever he was planning, she had a feeling that she won't like it.

"Okay Mina, stand right there," he said, positioning her little sister behind a speed indicator post.

"We are ready," he shouted and waves at them from across the road.

"I don't think this is a good idea," she whispered, glancing back at her mother.

"Don't worry, nothing bad is going to happen," she said, patting her on her shoulders.

Reya looked back at Mr.Kooper and whispered, "Somehow that was not reassuring enough,"

"Okay, are you ready Reya," Mr.Kooper yelled from the distance.

She nodded her answer and ran towards him.

Darting just two rapid steps, she felt the wind gusted on her face. 'I'm really fast!' she thought in wonder as she ran towards her little sister. Suddenly she lost her concentration and tripped on a piece of rubble. 'Oh shoot, I didn't expect my death to happen like this,' Reya thought as she was falling in slow motion.

She fell to her face, and crashed into the rubble. 'Darn that hurts so much' Reya thought as tears and blood clouded her vision.

'By the speed I was running I would probably look like a deformed toad,'

Rolling her eyes at her thought, Reya lifted her painful face from the concrete. She climbed up with difficulty, lifting her body with her forearm. Her face was hurting so bad that she could not even open her eyes through the pain.

"Reya," her mom screamed, running over to her. Both Her mom and Mr. Kooper lifted her up and sat her down the nearby passageway.

"Oh my god Reya, you are bleeding so badly," her mom said with tears flowing down her face.

"It's okay mom, I just tripped, it's not that bad," she wheezed out taking a deep breath.

Her face was hurting so badly at this point that tears and snot flowed without control. So did blood. She was not sure where she was bleeding from but by the amount of blood on the floor she knew it was bad.

"Here, we can put this on," Mr.Kooper awkwardly handed a clean kerchief. Her mom held her jaw and took a closer look at her face.

"Oh gods, Reya I think your nose is broken and there is a big open wound on your head that needs stitched," she whimpered, touching her face delicately.

"Reyaa," Mina screamed and rushed into her lap. "Reya, why are you bleeding?" she sobbed holding onto her shirt.

Sniffing a little, Reya held her little sister close. "Well, I wanted to show you what happens if you are not careful. I'm not that badly hurt," she said with a crocked smile. Gods, her face was hurting so much she can probably imagine how ugly her smile would be.

"Reya here take some painkillers," her mom handed her a pill and a small bottle of water. she gulped the pill with difficulty. "Let me clean your wounds," her mom whimpered, pulling her face close. On her hind sight she could see Mr.Kooper who looked almost reduced to tears. He noticed her glancing at him.

"I... I'm sorry, Reya. You got hurt because of me," Mr.Kooper said with a guilt expression.

"It's okay. I'm fine," she croaked, giving him a painful smile.

"Stop smiling for god's sake Reya, stay still," her mom yelled, bandaging her bruised face.

"Sorry," Reya whispered, staying as still as possible. She could feel the pain reducing as time passed.

After fifteen minutes or so, her face was completely pain free. "Oh, the pain is gone," she said touching her bandages.

"Don't touch them Reya. You might get septic," her mom warned, looking back at her. she swear, she always feel like her mother has a third eye on her back. Shaking her head at her weird thought, she strode close to them.

Nighttimes came soon, and they were preparing their dinner on a small fire. It was pitch black outside with only the light from the campfire illuminating their faces. Because she was wounded, her mom took up the cooked chore today.

"Here, careful it's hot," her mom said handing over a bowl with some noodles. she picked it up with her fork, but the noodles just disintegrated into the soup. She got to say, the noodle could have been much worse than this.

Shaking her head with a smile, she ladled her soggy soupy noodle and ate it with relish. Got to admit, today's activities made her extremely tired. Aside from the fact that i embarrassingly fell to her face, they did a bit of scavenging in the nearby buildings. They found some water bottles and a small packet of M&M's.

"Reya you are bleeding through, we have to change your bandages," she whispered rushing over to her. She shuffled around her bag and found a fresh roll of gauze. "Ah, there it was," she exclaimed, placing it on her lap.

"Sorry Reya, it is going to hurt a bit," she whispered gently pulling her face to hers. She started unwinding the blood-soiled gauze little by little. The gauze kept disturbing her eyes, so she closed it.

Reya heard a loud gasp and bowl shattering. She opened her eyes in shock and exclaimed, "What? What is wrong?"

Her mom was closing her face with a shocked look in her eyes.

Reya gazed around at Mr. Kooper, he had dropped his soggy noodles and was half standing up.

"Am I really ugly?" she whispered inaudibly looking at her shocked mother.

"No, no," her mum shook her head.

"You are completely healed!"
