The Lightbulb

The place was dark, the houses were dark. The stables were dark. Everything was dark, including the dead flies.

No, dark was not a reference toward to the color these things. It was more of the sky at this point. In simple language, it was night, but that wasn't really the problem here.

"Damn blackout." Guran said with a groan. In his hand was his handphone with the flashlight on. "And the moon isn't helping either." He looked up at the moon and frowned, for some reason even the moon was dim as a dim light, eventhough it's supposed to be a light source from nature itself.

"Maybe the Earth forgot to pay its electricity bill to the moon." Guran jokingly said before it hit him. "No wait that doesn't make sense. So much for trying to entertain myself."

The inside of his house was pitch-black, his phone's light being a savior. He swore he could see other people using the same method as he was using around the neighborhood. Looking up, the moon was now flickering. Both of his eyebrows were raised.

A knock was on his door, and he approached it. "Yes?" he answered upon opening. There was no one there, apart from the box just below and a note.

"Use this for the moon." it said. There was no sender. Opening the box, his eyes widened. "A lightblub? Really?" he asked in bewilderment. "Oh yeah sure, like I have to go there and plug in a new power source."

His eyes caught the box moving to the left, as a metal arm came out and placed a platform under Guran's feet. "Hey." was all he said before the platform was filled with pressure and flunged him sky high. Guran could feel the force of air tearing through his face as he went above the atmospheres. His eyesockets and cheeks dragged on as he was now in an airless void, but he was still going.

The dim moon was in his sight, and it seemed to get closer as he moved faster.

"Ah cra-" he plunged through the ground and dragged himself towards the surface. His body coming to a stop. His hand still held the lightbulb he found from the box.

Shaking his head, he saw a sign and a small hole. He read the sign

PLACE LIGHTBULB HERE

"Ok?" he said as he did what he sign said. A flash went through him, so bright his eyes closed swift as the wind. Opening them up, the moon was a bright white once more, and no longer dim. He had questions, but something caught his eye.

"How…" he said as the same box from before flew toward him. The metal arm from the box placed a sticker on his back and placed a platform underneath his feet. "NO WAIT."

He was flung backwards this time, all the way to the Earth. He swore he could see his house and neighborhood as he got closer. As the front side of his body was facing the ground, he felt a force pulling him. Within the corner of his eye was a parachute, and strings connecting to the sticker on his back.

His feet landed safely onto the ground, near his house. The neighborhood still had a blackout, but looking back at the moon, there was some better light from before.

"Guran" an older man approached him. It was his neighbor, and he noticed the parachute.

"Let me guess, you had to change the moon's lightbulb?"

"How did you-"

"I did it last week. Other people did that too before. Not really sure who out there is sending some weird box to fling us to the moon and back to change the lightbulb there, but I guess it's for the greater good of the earth, to provide light at night during a blackout like this."

Guran frowned. "I guess."
