Chapter 3

I waited anxiously outside next to the other beautiful women. Some even were smirking as if they had the job in the bag. I sat hoping somehow out if this huge bunch of women I would be the one NOT to be hired. I blew it. Why would he pick me of all people. My leg bounced up and down, releasing some of my tension.

A gorgeous blue eyed blonde turned to me. "Handsome isn't he?" I pause, "Well he's definitely something." She cackles loudly. "Something? So naive," her smile turns into a look of disgust. "Naive people like you shouldn't be at interviews, this is for real women." She says smiling a nasty smile.

She smoothed her hair, and clothes. "So I suppose being a sperm catcher would get me the job?" I say calmly. Her face turns red, and she abruptly stands. "Why you little-"

Suddenly the gorgeous Auburn haired woman glides out of his office. Still as bubbly as before. "Yes Mrs. London follow me. As for the rest of you I'm sorry, but Please do apply for the next position." I heard gasps, and snide comments.

I turned to the blonde, "I guess the naive do win sometimes." I say, sexily switching away. Goodness I did not just do that. I pondered the last five minutes, and turned to the Auburn haired woman. "You said apply for the next position. So he doesn't do this often?" I ask curiously.

"Well you're his first employee by invite!" She says a little too excitedly. I thought about this, but soon we arrived to his office. Facial expression grim as ever he began to speak. "Congratulations, Mrs. London you have been chosen as my new PERSONAL assistant. I usually only have one, but my sister-"

She glares at him. "Um that bubbly woman is your sister that's kind of hard to imagine since-" His eyes have narrowed significantly. "Since what Mrs. London?" His sister giggles. I look down.

"Very well as I was saying Audrey is having issues lately interfering with her duties. You will be on call. If I call you answer." Taking in this information, I am puzzled. "I do have a daughter what exactly does on call mean?" I ask, putting a hand on my hip.

"I assure you no later than midnight." Midnight! "So I'm expected to work all night, and then do your late night biddings? Are you crazy!" I ask slightly irritated. He is silent for a moment. "I can always call someone else to take the job."

I internally sigh. This is for Hailey. I nod, and wait for his next instructions. "Audrey will give you a paper out lining everything you need to know." With a wave he quickly dismissed us.

Once we were out of the room, Audrey was closing the door when I chose to ask my question. "You're his sister?" I ask. She smiles, "Yes I am." Then she scowls. "I think you're different, I didn't want you to know because well when people find out they try to use me. Me, and Orion were adopted and needless to say we have been arguing ever since." She laughs.

"He was in a Foster home?" I ask, utterly and seriously confused. "Yes she says walking me to an office directly next to his. "Wait where are we going?" I ask stopping outside the dark oak door with a crystal handle.

"Your office. You start today." Well how unexpected. She ushered me in, and I was awed. A fine leather chair was behind a beautiful desk. The desk was oak, and lined with intricate designs. A giant apple computer sat on the desk as well as a laptop. The carpet was brown and silky, and my feet sank in.

Against the wall were oak filing cabinets, I even had a coffee station, and the wall had empty oak shelves. I had a small book case, and the view was beautiful. On one side of the room sat a sofa, and against the wall was a flat screen TV.

"This is my office?" I asked in case I was being tricked. "Yes!" She said laughing. It was so big that I was amazed. You could live in it. "You can add anything extra that you want just request it." She says, handing me some papers.

"If you need anything I'm just a little ways away." She then swiftly walked out the door. I began to review the papers. My eyes widen.

Duties: Filing papers, answering phone calls, helping managing money, doing projects, giving advice, writing articles, accompanying to meetings and anything as as needed.

Pay: starting pay1,500$ possible ending pay 8,500$.

It had much more, but I was still focused on the pay. This would be more than enough to support me, and Hailey. Suddenly the phone starting ringing. I scrambled to pick up the phone. "Hello," I said. "Yes Mrs. London Audrey is on break, so I will personally take you to get your supplies. Meet me in five minutes."

Dumbfounded, I left my office grabbing the key out of the box outside my door and walked to Mr. Orion's office. I waited patiently outside the door. Just as I was about to open the door he opened the door, boxes in hand and knocked me to the floor.

A searing pain ran through my shoulder, and I clutched it. He quickly sat the boxes down, and leaned over me. I looked up shocked. Was that concern I saw on his face?

"Mrs. London are you alright?" He asks frantically. Shocked, I am silent staring at him. Finally noticing his indiscretion, he smooths his tie and his eyes go cold again.

"Watch where you're going next time," he says. "We cannot afford to have clumsiness at Mendelev Enterprises." He picked up his boxes, and motioned for me to come. Not even bothering to help me up.

How dare he! I ought to quit right now, why that asshole! Idiot, Meanie, Chauvinist- "Mrs. London are you okay?" I then noticed I have stopped walking, and my nails are pressing into my hands so hard it hurts.

I plaster a smile on my face, and nod. We continue to the supply room. He begins to fill the boxes with pens, pads, clipboards, posters, and anything else I might be using. I survey the room. It has white walls, and is bigger than my bedroom. It even has carpeting. How arrogant, carpeting in a supply room.

Once he's done he drops the box in my hands and leaves. Fuming I find my way back to my office after taking several wrong turns. I relax, but as soon as I sit down the phone calls begin.

--------

By 3 pm I have answered hundreds of phone calls, I have several pens in my pockets, and my desk is covered with piles of papers. My shoulder hurts worse than it did before, and all I want to do is get home before the bus arrives.

I grab my purse, and all the things I will need to take home. I sluggishly get out of the chair, and head for the door. I suddenly need to turn around and get the key. Feeling woozy I grab the wall, but it's to late. My head smacks against the corner of the desk and darkness and carpet rush at me at the same time.
