Mistake

Ghost's POV
"New gear huh?" I asked
Hacker had his newly designed gear on the table.
"Well just the helmet and the gas mask." said Hacker, "The vest isn't fully ready."
"Good work, demonstrate." I said
Creed takes off his helmet, eye piece and his bandana. He then puts on the metal helmet with had headsets in the helmet. It looked like normal FAST helmet we use but this one was made out of metal and it protected our ear. This one also had a gas mask attached to it with clear plastic glasses also attached to it. He puts the gas mask on and shows me his new invention. To be honest I thought it'll be too big, but it looked small for a metallic helmet. Hacker's eye wear had another eye set with a screen on it. He even switch the eye wear to sunglass lens.
"You can turn these eye shields into night vision goggles and thermal, I even upgraded the thermal vision sights to make it look like the thermal visions in the movie Predator." said Hacker
He then took off his gas mask and smiled.
"You can wear your mask on the inside." said Hacker
He takes off the helmet and puts on his bandana and puts the helmet back on but he takes off the gas mask. The gas mask was small enough to put into his pocket.
"Would you like to try one sir?" asked Hacker
He hands me another helmet so I accept it and take off my old helmet and my headset. I put on the new one without the gas mask and it fit perfectly. It doesn't feel too big nor too small, and for something that's made out of metal, it feels lighter than the FAST helmets we use. The eye shield turned on and it was just like the eye scanner.
"Well done Hacker." I complimented
"Thank you sir." said Hacker
"Hand this to everyone." I replied
He nodded and left the room. I took off my new helmet and examined it carefully. That's when someone knocked on my door.
"Come in."
The door opens and Phantom comes in.
"I see Hacker showed you his new invention." said Phantom
"It'll be handy for us in the future." I said
"His vest is nearly done." said Phantom
"I know he told me." I replied
"How's your rib?" asked Phantom
"Healing, I can walk around now." I replied
I got dressed and put on my old helmet for now. I grabbed the new one and walked out of the room with Phantom. We left the building and the streets were covered with worried civilians looking at me for help.
We walked through the streets but one elderly woman grabbed me by the arm and started crying.
"Please, my son is part of the Eldian Survey Corp. Please, is he okay?" I asked
"His name?" I asked
"Jean Kirstein." replied the woman
"He's fine ma'am. He's a good soldier." I replied
"Thank you, please take care of him." she pleaded
'You're asking the wrong person to protect your son.'
But I just nodded and left the underground district.
"You're up?" asked Recon
She got up with Aid and walked up to me.
"It's fine don't worry about it." I replied
"Well, we have something to tell you." said Aid
They led us to a holographic table and turned it on showing me a globe with a blinking dot somewhere in Australia.
"What's the blinking light?" I asked
"Someone put a tracking device on one of the ships during the battle 3 days ago." said Recon
"Okay but why is there a second one?" asked Phantom
Recon and Aid looked a bit uneasy.
"That's our fleet." said Aid
I looked at them, my eyes lazily looking at them.
"Under whose authority?" I asked
"Under Commander Erwin's." replied Aid
I punched the hologram table so hard that the top of the table cracked and the hologram broke. Aid and Recon staggered back in fear when I punched the table.
"I told you that we shouldn't face the enemy head on." I growled
"We tried to stop him but he insisted." said Aid, "Plus we don't have the authority to disobey his order."
"Then what the hell were you doing?" I asked Recon
"I let him." she replied
"Why?" I asked
"Cause I was the one that convinced him to and today, we recovered from the last attack." said Recon
"This will leave us wide open." said Phantom
"They only took one fleet." said Recon
"Then we have two problems." I said
"Should we reinforce?" asked Aid
"No tell them to retreat." I replied
Recon didn't budge and I glared at her.
"They already engaged the enemy." said Recon
I grunted in frustration and left the table.
"Get an Osprey ready." I told Phantom
"You're not going though." said Phantom
I was about to say something until Hacker came.
"Sir it's ready." said Hacker
He brings a vest that looks made of metal but the part where the ammunition and other supplies are held were covered with regular wool and cotton. Hacker had his new helmet and his new vest on.
"You should try this sir." said Hacker
I quickly took off my old vest and put on the new one and surprisingly, it was light. I was able to move around well even while bending the vest.
"The vest has multiple equally cut parts on the stomach allowing you to do anything such as situps and rolling on the ground. The chest isn't though." said Hacker
"Good, get the others. We're leaving." I said
"Understood sir." he replied
"Ghost I don't think-"
"Enough, my ribs are fine. I won't do anything reckless." I cut her off
"Okay, I'll do all the work." smirked Phantom
I smiled back and took off my helmet and put on my new helmet. Our color went from black to gray since Hacker didn't have time to design it. I removed my Sentinel patches and put it on my new vest.
"Let's go." I said
Phantom finishes putting on her new vest but of course she doesn't wear a helmet. The rest of Ghost team were also ready, everyone had the new equipment on and our newly modified guns.
"Do you have the new gear and drones inside the osprey?" Hacker asked Bomber
"Yea, they're all inside." replied Bomber
"Let's go." I said

6 hours later
Eren's POV
"Prepare yourselves." said Levi
We completely obliterated their main fleet and now we were headed towards their main land. Jean was driving the F470 Combat Rubber Raiding Craft with me, Armin, Annie and Mikasa on it. Other crafts were driving next to us towards the beach.
"INCOMING!" yelled a Scout
A raft next to us gets shot with a mortar sending bodies flying. We saw muzzle flashes on the beach, indicating that the TMOs were already stationed there. I used the mounted lmg on the boat and started firing at the beach.
"30 seconds!" yelled Jean
"Follow the plan!" yelled Captain Levi through my earpieace
I got ready to shift with Annie as we checked our ODM gear.
"You ready?" I asked
"Always, I have to protect your ass all the time." smirked Annie
I laughed and shook my head.
"Don't worry, you'll be the one needing protection." I said
Annie smiled but nodded.
"I look forward to that." she replied
I smiled then looked forward just in time to see a mortar hit the water in front of us. The boat jerked up but Jean just kept driving forward.
"Great, I'm wet now." groaned Mikasa
"10 seconds!" yelled Jean
"All scouts disengage and engage the enemy!" yelled Levi
Everyone jumps and we shoot our hook and zoom to the beach. Once me and Annie got high enough to have everyone safe and we shifted.
Jean's POV
I shot my dual MP7s at a barrel and it exploded, everyone around it got caught in flames.
"Take out that big gun!" yelled Hange
Connie dives in and drops a bunch of grenades where the AA guns were stationed. The AA gun exploded, it was like a whole firework display. Eren and Annie destroyed all of the enemy's tanks and most of the TMOs were retreating.
"Secure the beach for our marines!" yelled Levi
I landed on the ground and reloaded my gun.
"Don't slack off you don't know what might-"
I felt the ground rumble underneath me. My knees buckled as the ground trembled more and I looked ahead and I saw a whole stampede of titans headed towards us.
"I called in an artillery strike!" yelled Moblit
"That should be make this fight easier." said Connie
But then I heard something so squinted towards the titans and I saw small dots under them.
"What the hell is that?" I asked
I squinted my eyes but then the noise became clear. Human voices, a battle cry.
"TMO mutants!" yelled Armin
"Open fire!" yelled Levi
All the Eldian Marines began shooting the newly modified ACRs but the titans ran in front of the mutants, using themselves as a shield. Levi draws his sword and is hooked onto the titans. I joined with the other scouts while the Marines kept shooting at the titans. Eren and Annie tried fending them off but they were tackled to the ground.
"Jean, the Mutants aren't aiming for us!" yelled Armin
I looked at the ground and saw the TMO mutants engaging with our Marines, cutting down our Marine forces.
"Artillery strike incoming! Fall back!" yelled Moblit
We all fell back and the titans started exploding as the ships fired at the titans. I landed on the ground and I looked around at the fray. Mikasa was helping Eren and Annie, killing the titans who tackled them to the ground.
Our artillery strike started hammering the titans but it didn't seem to hold them back. The titans kept coming and it wasn't helping us. The TMO mutants kept cutting down our marines, I even saw two of them stabbing one marine who was pinned down on the ground.
A TMO mutant charged towards me and swung his sword at me. I dodged it and began shooting him with my duo guns killing him. Another one charged at me but I was about to shoot but nothing came out.
'Shit I'm out!'
I scrambled to reload one of my guns but just as he was about to kill him, Mikasa swung in, grabbed one of his arms, did some backflip and he was pinned down under her. She broke the arm she was holding onto and then stabbed him with her sword.
"Jean are you okay?" she asked
"I'm fine, sorry I didn't realize I was out." I replied
Zeke and Pieck joined the fight but it didn't make a difference.
"Captain we need to fall back!" yelled Connie
"Everyone fall back!" yelled Hange
But I saw someone run up to Hange up to stab her.
"Hange! Look out!" I yelled
I ran towards her trying to save her but I won't make it in time. But then Moblit jumps in front of her and he gets impaled with a sword in the chest. Hange gasps in pure shock as she hugs Moblit from the back. I shot the TMO mutant in the neck killing him and ran to Moblit.
"Moblit, stay with me." said Moblit
He collapsed onto his knees and looked up to Hange.
"Thank you for everything." he whispered
I pulled out some cloth and started putting pressure on Moblit's stab wound but he grabs my arm and shakes his head.
"I'm, done for." he whispered
He then slowly lets go of my arm and it falls to his side, his head hung to the side. Hange starts crying and shakes him, desperately trying to wake him up.
"No I'm sorry, please wake up. We haven't finished our research on titans." cried Hange
But Moblit didn't move at all. I checked his pulse on his neck but I felt nothing.
"He's dead." I whispered
Hange screams in agony and hugs Moblit's limp body.
"Captain, the fleet's surrounded!" yelled a Marine
"We're surrounded!" yelled another Marine
I looked around to see bodies everywhere. Marines getting stabbed or eaten, blood soaked the sand. The Beast titan tried controlling the titans but they didn't listen, drawing the attention of every titan.
I slowly got up and carried Moblit's body back to the water where the remaining survivors were standing there scared. The TMO mutants and Titans surrounded us completely, the fleet also looked surrounded but they seemed to be able to hold on.
"You are all surrounded, surrender and you'll have a proper execution." yelled a TMO mutant
"We never surrender." growled Levi
"I rather die fighting than die on my knees." said Connie
Eren roared into the sky agreeing with us.
The TMO was about to charge at us but they stopped and looked up in fear. I looked behind me and I saw a swarm of ospreys headed towards us.
"It's Sentinel, fall back!" yelled a TMO mutant
The Osprey began firing missiles at the TMO mutants and titans obliterating them. All the Osprey began landing and Sentinels began pouring out onto the beach.
I saw Ghost team approach us and Lieutenant Ghost seemed pissed off. He looked around and saw all the dead bodies littering the beach.
"Where's Erwin Smith?" he asked
"Back in the Garrison Carrier." replied Mike
Ghost left to get back on the Osprey but Levi stopped him.
"This was his call, we knew the risks and we took it." said Levi
Ghost looked down at Levi and looked around.
"You expected this outcome but still proceeded with the operation." said Ghost
"That's what-"
Ghost punched him causing Levi to fall to the ground.
"I thought you knew better than this." growled Ghost
He boards on the Osprey with his team and they head towards the carrier.
"Captain Levi are you okay?" I asked
"It's fine, I understand how he's feeling. I deserve that one." he replied
He rubs his cheek in pain and walks over to Hange as she closes Moblit's eyes.
"It was supposed to be me." whispered Hange
Levi bent down to Hange and looked at her in the eyes.
"Four eyes, Moblit saved you because he believes that you can save the world." said Levi, "Stop blaming yourself, it'll only make Moblit's death meaningless."
Hange nodded and we put body in a body bag and onto an Osprey with other bodies in body bags.
"Peace to the fallen." I whispered
"Peace to the fallen." replied everyone else
"How many casualties?" asked Mike
"We landed on the beach with 60 Marines and 20 scouts, but now there's 16 marines left and 16 scouts left." said Mike
All the shifters came out of their bodies and Eren ran to us.
"Moblit's, dead?" he asked
I nodded and the Osprey took off towards the fleet.
"Let's get on board." said Levi
We all boarded an Osprey and headed towards the main fleet carrier. We landed on the carrier and we all headed towards the control room. Ghost team left the room and ignored all of us as we were about to enter the room. We entered the room to see that Erwin had a bloody lip but he seemed to look guilty.
"For the first time, I feel like the lives of our soldiers were in vain." sighed Erwin
He looked at us and nodded.
"I'm glad all of you are safe." said Erwin
But then he started noticing our dull sad faces and raised an eyebrow.
"What happened?" asked Erwin
Hange started tearing up and sighed.
"Moblit, fell in battle." she whispered
Erwin closed his eyes in pain.
"Peace to the fallen." he whispered
Commander Pixis came into the room and we all saluted.
"We're moving out, it'll take us a day to get back home. Ghost team left already with the Sentinels so now we're sailing home." said Pixis, "You guys will all be assigned to a room so hang out in the cafeteria. It'll be a long trip back home."
