With a faint whisper, two of the boys were gone, replaced by beautiful juvenile wolves.
This time, Dudley toppled over backwards. He slouched on Harry's bedsheets and didn't speak nor move for a good two minutes.
°Did we break him?° Harry asked in honesty.
°I think not, he's still breathing... and he opened his eyes... good.° the other werewolf answered, relief seeping through his 'voice'.
"Just so you know, I am not dead, just trying to wrap my mind around the fact that my cousin and his friend can turn into wolves."
Dudley said even though he was unable to decipher what the wolves had been discussing.
Harry changed back and grinned. "C'mon, dude. Your grizzly form is pretty cool too, we just have to get you caught up in progress. Let's go downstairs first, I could take a tea right now."
As if on cue, Abby appeared in the room and bowed to the young wizards before addressing her ordeal. "Mistress Lily asks young Masters to be present for tea, if young Masters would like."
Ian shifted back to his human appearance and smiled at her. "Thanks, Abby. We'll be down in a minute." The house elf squealed happily and left with a faint 'pop', most likely to to prepare the tea.
The children went to the main tea salon, having picked up the girls on the way. Harry was the last to enter and called out: "Excellent timing, Dad. I'm starving!!"
Dudley retorted: "Hungry like the wolf, right?"
Silence.
Helena smiled smugly as a sour-faced James handed her three sickles.
Fleamont asked: "Did you two really bet on when he's going to bring up the first Marauder pun?"
James sighed. "Yes. I said it would take him at least two weeks and well... you see that Lena had the better guess."
No one saw Mia sneaking up to her father, an airhorn in her hand and ready to strike. And she did.
James jumped up, semi-transforming midair, but before his feet touched the floor again, Lily had conjured a small but strong trampoline that had him bouncing up to the ceiling once more. His antlers had branched through the coverage, leaving the owner dangling with his feet two metres from the ground.
All of that had developed in less than two seconds and had everyone - save for the two pranksters - stunned. Euphemia I. closed her jaw with an audible 'snap'.
Lily shrugged. "Just a small prank. Can't afford to set rust. By the way, that was for setting bets on my nephew, JAMES!!" She shot a pointed glare in the general direction of her husband.
Remus was wheezing with laughter and had to wipe a laughing tear. "Small prank my arse, this is brilliant!"
With a mild trace of panic in his voice, James asked: "Lily? What have you done?"
Her answer was a calm: "I have blocked your transformation thoroughly for fifteen minutes and put a sticking charm on your antlers. In conclusion, hang in there, Potter." Mia smirked.
-(two weeks later)-
James sat in his study and prepared lesson plans for his OWL classes when someone knocked on her door. He called for the visitor to enter and looked up in surprise when he saw his nephew standing in front of her desk, alone, and anxious.
"What is it?" He asked, worried about what could have driven him to his study. Normally, he was too shy to do that.
He answered, struggling to speak without a stutter. "I am thankful for everything you did for me. You've opened your home for me, you introduced me to your family and even gave me a room. It's more than I could ever dream of happening, but..." He trailed off.
"But you are feeling out of place because you never had the opportunity to get to know all of us the way we do. I understand that. Please, continue."
"Yes, there's this Muggle girl I met in primary school and she's magical, just like me. We've been friends for six years and she's probably worried sick and hates me because I left without saying anything. Would you allow me to write her a letter, explaining that I'm fine?" He twisted his hands, clearly anticipating her reply.
James tipped his chin with a quill. "What's her name? I have access to the list of first years that start this summer, perhaps she's on there." With that, he reached for a name file on the shelf to her right.
"Her name is Hermione Granger."
He shuffled the papers in the box and yelped in surprise. "Ah yes, there she is. From the looks of it, you're going to be in the same year. And, since that's the case, you're writing that letter to ask her if the two of us could come over. I bet her family could need some answers about magic."
