Sapphire vs. Ex-girlfriend
Five days pass and Sapphire goes with Shadow to the field they meet at, to find her ex-girlfriend stood in a magically drawn circle and approaches her.
"We meet again, Geraldine. With your boyfriend I see." Sapphire's ex-girlfriend says
"I know what you did. You made me have amnesia to forget my friends, Shadow, and the deaths I've seen. Well, that spell of yours didn't last and t'was broken." Sapphire responds and soon adds "You should've known it would be broken. Magic might be complicated, but it's easy to work around." Sapphire responds
"How do you know? You don't even have it."
"How do you think I saved the city with Shadow? How do you think I saved one of my friends from the cathedral? Coincidence, or magic? Take your pick."
"Besides that! You've got your memory back, time to face the music."
Sapphire's ex-girlfriend quickly fires an attack, for Sapphire to deflect it. After two hours, Sapphire weakens with every attack that hits. Sapphire starts to lose balance and Shadow runs to her aid.
"What're you doing here?!" Sapphire's ex-girlfriend asks
"What a true partner should do, protecting and helping Sapphire stay away from the likes of you." Shadow responds, for Sapphire to slowly regain her balance
"You shouldn't be here!"
"Why not?"
Sapphire's ex-girlfriend soon freezes, speechless as Shadow fires an attack, for the opponent to deflect the attack. Two more hours pass, Shadow loses balance and falls, next to Sapphire to notice the raven feather glittering in Sapphire's quills.
"What're you doing?" Sapphire asks
"Trying... to get to the feather..." Shadow responds, getting weaker
Sapphire makes a breathing aid appear and giving it to Shadow.
"What's this?"
"Harriot has used her magic to create a haze in your lungs. That's how she got me so weak. But beforehand, get the feather out of my quills. I need my wings."
Shadow quickly grabs the feather and takes the breathing aid. Sapphire is quickly in her human form, with her wings and flying above Harriot.
"How can you fly?!" Harriot exclaims
"Did you forget something? I'm one of the Light Guardians, and so is Shadow. You mess with us; you're messing with the city's chaos balance." Sapphire responds, readying her magic adding "So, are you gonna fight me or forfeit?"
Harriot gets up weakly.
"Bring it, you winged freak!"
"Alright, you asked for it."
Sapphire quickly sends an attack, for Harriot to deflect it. Hours pass, Harriot falls over and her defence is disarmed.
"Aren't you forgetting something? The kind of magic I possess! You'll end up fighting me for longer."
"Not if I can help it!"
Shadow hears this and gets to Sapphire's aid.
"Sapphire, she has a point! You can't finish her off alone!" Shadow informs
"What can you do?" Sapphire asks
"I might not have improved on magic lately, but the strongest I've got is Chaos Energy."
"Will that work?"
"Add it with your magic, it might. Just trust me."
As this is said, Harriot makes flying enemies appear. Sapphire quickly realises that Harriot is the mastermind behind the monsters that killed her best friend.
'She's really done it this time!' Sapphire thinks
"Let's rid these beasts!" Sapphire exclaims, in anger
Shadow and Sapphire are quickly fighting off the enemies, getting stronger with each attack. Soon, all the enemies are defeated, and Harriot is left.
"So, what else have you got for us?!" Sapphire exclaims
"You've got my skills to face! Let's see how you pull off your victory!" Harriot responds
Three more hours pass, Shadow and Sapphire attack Harriot and she is quickly weakened.
"Are you ready?" Shadow asks
Sapphire breathes to compose herself.
"Yep, ready as anything!" Sapphire responds, readying her magic
Shadow and Sapphire merge their energy to perform the biggest spell of their time together. With one hit, Harriot's magic is deactivated, and she is defeated. Shadow and Sapphire in two separate bubbles, with changes happening to them. Sapphire's wings transform into white, angelic wings and she is in a new dress, with embellishments coming off the shoulders and flowing veil sleeves. As for Shadow he has new embellishments on his limiters and coming off his shoes. He also has a black cape, flowing down his back. The pair are soon out of their bubbles and on the ground. As for Harriot, she's trying to stand on her feet, to no avail. Sapphire notices.
"Shadow, I think Harriot needs help. I'll go." Sapphire informs, letting go of Shadow's hand
"Are you sure? After everything she's put you through." Shadow responds
"Yes, I'm certain. All the hate is what made her evil in the first place. I think it's time to forgive her after everything that's happened."
Sapphire goes to Harriot and helps her to her feet. She says the words to the healing spell and Harriot can stand without help.
"You want to help me? After everything I've done." Harriot says
"Yes, I want to forgive you and put it in the past. All the hate made you evil in the first place. You need love and friendship; you haven't been getting that. So, Shadow and I are going to be the first to welcome you into our circle." Sapphire responds, hugging Harriot
"Now that the magic is out of me, what do I do?"
"You don't need it. Like Sapphire said, you need love and friendship. If we're willing to move forward, I don't see why you shouldn't be." Shadow says, causing the attention to turn to him
"Wait, after putting your girlfriend through the amnesia, you're willing to let me in?"
Shadow does his nod, for Harriot to become confused.
"That means that he's willing, by the way. So, what d'you say? Joining us?" Sapphire says
Harriot, after some brief hesitation, agrees to join Shadow and Sapphire on their journey home. Shadow and Sapphire are now in their original hedgehog forms.
"Wait, how are we gonna get there?" Harriot asks
"Have you got the Emerald, Shadow?" Sapphire asks
Shadow gets out the Emerald, for Harriot to hesitate touching it.
"Are you sure you trust me with something like that?"
"Yes, this is how Shadow, and I got here in the first place. It's safe, I'll assure you."
Harriot soon puts her hand on the Emerald and the trio travel to the homeland, to be approached by Knuckles and Sonic.
"Hey, guys. How're things?" Sapphire greets
"All good. Who's this?" Knuckles asks, looking at Harriot
"This is..." Sapphire is quickly stopped by Harriot
"I can handle this. I'm Harriot, Geraldine's ex-girlfriend-now-friend. You are..." Harriot introduces
"The name's Knuckles." Knuckles responds, getting nervous
Sapphire notices Knuckles' nerves
"Nice to meet you. Who's next to you?"
"I'm Sonic, Sapphire's friend." Sonic introduces
"Wait, you've got a different name?"
"Yes, my friends and Shadow here call me Sapphire. The reason, you should be able to work out."
"Your blue eyes, pure as anything. Yep, I've worked that out. I don't get why you were named Geraldine."
"Me neither Harriot, me neither. But that's the way it is."
"I think I've come to terms with your relationship now. Apologies for ever trying to jeopardise it."
"You wanted me back, you wouldn't believe it wasn't gonna happen. You're forgiven and that's in the past. I'd rather keep it that way."
Sapphire and Harriot shake hands and go their separate ways. As for Knuckles, he goes home and spends time alone, pondering over his thoughts about Harriot. Sapphire goes to Knuckles' home and notices him laying down, deep in thought.
"Hey, there." Sapphire says, making Knuckles take notice
"Hey." Knuckles responds
"Are you alright? You seem a bit... well, you're not yourself."
Knuckles is quickly silenced.
"Is this about Harriot?"
"You could say that."
"You were nervous when you introduced yourself. Like, you've started to take a shine to Harriot."
"It feels that way."
"Sound of advice. Since she's new here, I'd suggest becoming her friend and waiting until she's ready to come out of her shell. Since she's still in defence mode, I'd suggest not letting anything slip."
"Okay, cool."
"Anything else?"
"Nothing else."
"I'll see you around."
Night falls and Sapphire leaves to turn in for the night. Five evenings pass, Halloween arrives, and everyone is getting ready to visit the city for the festivities. Sapphire is in front of a mirror and notices two feathers in her quills, the raven feather, and a white feather. She takes off the faux leather jacket and picks out the raven feather. She's quickly in human form with her raven wings.
'I think, I should wrap them around my shoulders and see how the others react.' Sapphire thinks out loud
Sapphire wraps her wings around her shoulders and joins the others, for Shadow to quickly notice her.
'She looks phenomenal, no matter what she puts together.' Shadow thinks
"Hey, you guys. Where's Harriot?" Sapphire asks
"She said that she's hosting something in the city for Halloween. Harriot left earlier." Amy responds
"Alright, are we going or what?" Knuckles asks, getting impatient
"Knuckles, a word."
Sapphire pulls Knuckles away from the group.
"Yep."
"Knuckles, I get that you're interested in Harriot. But, at least try and keep cool about it. I don't want the others getting suspicious."
"Yep, got it."
"Let's get going then."
Knuckles goes back to the others and Sapphire is pulled back by something. She turns to notice Felicity's spirit, hovering above her.
"Hey, friend." Felicity's spirit greets
"Hey, what're you doing here?" Sapphire responds
"It's about Harriot. You might not know this, but she's also half your friends' kind and half human. If the same happens to her, as to you she lives forever too."
"Wait, isn't she fifteen now?"
"As of two weeks ago. However, she won't have magic like you. She'll be an everyday creature, like your friends."
"Alright, thanks for the intel. Anything else?"
"Don't let her near anything that involves evil magic. Or, she dies in an instant."
"So, now evil magic isn't only her enemy, but her ticket to suicide?"
"Yes, you and your friends need to keep a close eye on her. Bye for now."
Felicity's spirit vanishes and Sapphire joins the others as they head for the city. The group reach the city and Sapphire notices Harriot, standing bored near a food stall.
"Hey, Harriot. Over here!" Sapphire calls out, as Harriot approaches
"Hey, there. Good to see you all again." Harriot greets, causing Knuckles to become nervous
"Are you hosting this thing?"
"Yep, I've had nothing to do for the past hour, pretty boring if you ask me. Hey, Knuckles come with me, I wanna show you something."
Knuckles soon freezes, not knowing whether to go or stay.
"Go ahead, she's your friend as well as mine." Sapphire says
Knuckles goes to join Harriot in another part of the area. As for everyone else, they're all together, looking around the stalls, for Shadow to notice a flower stall and buys a rose for Sapphire. He quickly makes it into a small headpiece, adding a magically made veil to the bottom of the rose and making it gold and silver.
"How did you learn this? It looks wonderful!" Sapphire says
"The crafting spell and there's something else." Shadow reveals, keeping the tone set
"Put it on her, Shadow. You know you want to!" Sonic says
Shadow soon carefully places the headpiece in Sapphire's hair. Sapphire is quick to notice Sonic's encouragement and turns to Shadow for answers.
"What's going on?" Sapphire asks, in bewilderment
Shadow soon gets close to Sapphire's ear and whispers: 'I've been wanting to ask; will you be my wedded?' Sapphire hears this and freezes, in thought. She soon whispers back: 'I would love to. But, I'm not yet ready.' She soon adds 'I am not rejecting your proposal. I just want more time to see where this is headed.' Shadow responds: 'But, do keep the headpiece, as a gift. It suits you well.' Sapphire blushes and responds, 'Thank you, Shadow.' Sapphire then kisses Shadow on the cheek, for him to kiss her on the lips.
"Hey, you two. Are you coming or what?" Sonic asks
"Yep, on our way!" Shadow and Sapphire say in unison, catching up to the others
As for Harriot and Knuckles, they notice something floating in the air that isn't being supported by a person. There are soon people running away from the floating figure and Knuckles tries getting to it, to be stopped by Harriot.
"Don't, Knuckles. I'll handle this." Harriot says, approaching the figure
"Hey! What're you doing here?!" Harriot exclaims
The figure gets closer.
"Well, if it isn't my original accomplice. Harriot Woods." The figure responds
"What do you want?"
"It seems that you've escaped the curse. Do tell me how."
"Why would I? So that you could harm my friends, not happening!"
The figure fires an attack, for Harriot to dodge it. The figure hovers away for Harriot to chase after it.
"Harriot, wait!" Knuckles exclaims, for Harriot to ignore him
The two enemies reach the field and look each other in the eyes.
"What do you want from me? Tell me!"
"You've got something, and I want it!"
"I don't have magic, I'm just a regular human. So, what do you want?"
"You know what you have, and I want it! Give it to me!"
The two enemies are quickly in a fight, with Harriot trying to find ways to fight back. Five hours pass and Harriot is in the air. Harriot is soon holding a sword and has wings on her back. She's also wearing a short dress and gets back onto firm ground. The figure notices Harriot's new appearance and becomes angered.
"That's what I'm after, your ability to change into that!"
"I don't even know what this thing is."
Soon, Sapphire and the crew arrive at the field, to notice Harriot's new appearance.
"Harriot's turned into a Valkyrie. I've got a feeling that this is a permanent thing." Sapphire informs
"Are you sure that's what she is, Sapphire?" Sonic asks
"I'm certain."
Knuckles watches on and notices Harriot. Harriot keeps fighting the figure and defeats it. Harriot is back on the ground and notices the others behind her. She freezes briefly, takes Shadow's Chaos Emerald, and travels home, for Sapphire to use magic to follow. As for the rest of the crew, they race back to their homeland. As for Sapphire and Harriot, they reach their homeland.
"Harriot, wait!" Sapphire exclaims
"What? Why are you here?" Harriot asks
"Why did you run away?"
"I didn't expect you all to show up. Plus, this. I didn't even know about this element of me. I was hoping to stay human and then this happens. I'm going to the cave. I want to be alone."
Harriot quickly goes to the cave and into an empty chamber. As for the rest of the crew, they arrive back at the homeland.
"Hey, Sapphire. Is everything alright with Harriot?" Knuckles asks
"I think her transformation is making her feel insecure. From what I can work out, she's gonna want her space." Sapphire responds, feeling a sense of defeat
"Hey, are you alright?" Shadow asks
"I'll be alright. It's Harriot I'm worrying about. I think she has something on her mind."
As for Harriot, she's in the empty cave chamber laying down in worry.
'Knuckles isn't gonna want a Valkyrie as a girlfriend...' Harriot thinks
As for Sapphire, she decides to go to the cave and spend time alone, to hear crying. She looks around, to find Harriot laying on the cave floor upset.
"Hey, Harriot. What's up?" Sapphire asks
"It's no big deal. Don't worry yourself." Harriot responds
"Are you sure? You seem rather upset."
"I'll be alright. Just leave me be, okay?"
"Sure thing."
Sapphire leaves to join the others as Harriot falls asleep. As for Silver and Shadow, they're in a disagreement that has lasted at least an hour, on the cave top.
"So, we disagree again." Silver says
"I resent you. Why are you talking to me?" Shadow responds
"We've been at this for an hour, at least. I'm leaving."
"Please do. Stay away from Sapphire, got that?"
"Why would I want to go near her?"
"I overheard what happened when you both met. Don't act innocent!"
"I'll leave now."
"Please do, make it swift!"
There is soon a quick, bitter tension in the air between the two hedgehogs. As for Sapphire, she's in her city home, getting some peace and quiet. Two days pass, Sapphire goes out and is bombarded by the press.
"Rumours say that you've got a partner is it true?" One reporter asks
"Yes, it's true. I'm not spreading details." Sapphire responds, becoming anxious
There is soon a flood of questions as the press follow her around the city. Sapphire soon decides to talk again.
"All I came out to do was some shopping for my city home. I didn't want this to happen, nor did I expect it. So, can I be left to shop, like any other citizen, please?" Sapphire says
Soon, other city residents begin to gather around Sapphire, asking for autographs.
"Can I just ask, why is this happening?"
"There's been a change in your status to everyone across the world. Everyone knows of you and your heroism. They also know of your qualities." A city resident responds
"Oh, my word! Wait, so I'm an international celebrity?"
"Yes, you are Sapphire Hawthorne." Another reporter responds
"Sapphire Hawthorne?"
"You've had your name changed, as a gift of your status."
"Okay, can I be left to my shopping please? I'd be willing to talk when I'm ready."
"That's fine miss Hawthorne."
As everyone leaves, Sapphire goes to the shopping centre to shop for home décor. As for Sapphire's friends, they receive a news report, with Sapphire on the front cover.
"Hey, what's going on?" Shadow asks
"You might wanna look at this Shadow. It's about Sapphire." Tails informs
Shadow takes the news report and looks at the headline. It reads: 'Sapphire Hawthorne – Dating Rumours Confirmed' Part of the report reads: 'Today, Sapphire confirms the dating rumours by saying 'Yes, it's true. I'm not spreading details.' Will we find out her date is? We'll keep you posted.'
'I never knew her surname was Hawthorne.' Shadow thinks
"What're you gonna do?" Sonic asks
"I was gonna ask you. You know fame more than me. How did you cope with it?" Shadow responds
"It can be unforgiving but does feel great. But, that's me. I don't know how Sapphire'll take it."
As for Sapphire, she finishes her décor shop and is greeted by what seems like a manager.
"Hello, are you Sapphire Hawthorne?" The manager asks
"Yes, and you are...?" Sapphire responds
"Hello, I'm Scarlett Walters. As you can see, I'm a manager."
"Hello, Scarlett. Could you tell me why you're stood in front of me, please?"
"I've been asked to take the role as being your project manager. If you want that."
"Why would I need a manager exactly?"
"Fame can be a very unforgiving place. I've been asked to make it as rewarding for you as possible. That's why I've been asked to be your project manager."
"Right, does my boyfriend have to get tied in with this?"
"You can tell him about it; unless a news report about the dating rumours has been sent where he is. So, let's go to your home and talk business."
"Yes, it should help me understand all this."
Sapphire and Scarlett head to Sapphire's home, to see Shadow standing at the door. Shadow notices Sapphire and approaches her.
"Hello, Sapphire. Who's this?" Shadow asks
"Hello, there. I'm Scarlett Walters a project manager. Who are you?" Scarlett responds
"I'm Shadow. What's this?"
"Come to my place, all will be explained, hopefully." Sapphire says, getting nervous
Sapphire, Scarlett, and Shadow head inside Sapphire's home. After around an hour, Scarlett explains the situation, as thoroughly as possible. Sapphire is quick to become more nervous.
"So, what does this mean for Shadow and me?" Sapphire asks
"Keep the thing as far away from the press as possible. They'll be watching; like a hawk." Scarlett responds
"Thanks for the warning. Can we still come to the city together?" Shadow asks
"Yes, but I'd suggest keeping an eye out for the press. They've been all over Sapphire and her 'mystery date' since the dating rumours were confirmed. I won't breathe anything. But I can't guarantee that someone else will be as nice."
"Thanks for the encouragement. So, about this 'manager' thing?" Sapphire says
"I was specifically picked to handle you and your projects. My agency has asked me to manage your career specifically."
"Is there any paperwork?"
"Yes, if you want me as your manager. I've got the paperwork with me, so just sign whenever you're ready."
Sapphire is given the paperwork and begins to read it. After around forty-five minutes, Sapphire has read the paperwork and begins to contemplate signing it. After a few minutes, Sapphire signs the paperwork and is given a mobile phone.
"What am I to do with this?" Sapphire asks
"This is to keep in touch with me and others who get hired to help with your projects." Scarlett responds
"Oh, boy. Am I gonna get a lot of calls?"
"Not unless there's something important that needs to be addressed. Other than that, you'll get calls from me about projects and appearances to take part in. My number is saved, so no need to add it again. Of which will only happen when you've had your six-week break from the press."
"Wait, six whole weeks of no reporters knocking at my door, asking for relationship details?"
"Yes, they will be informed and leave you alone during that time, starting today. I won't be calling you about projects during that time either."
Sapphire soon breathes a sigh of relief; with Shadow looking concerned.
"Alright, enjoy your break. I'll be leaving now."
"Goodbye for now, Scarlett."
"Goodbye and thank you for the hospitality."
Scarlett leaves and Shadow looks intently at Sapphire, for her to notice.
"What?" Sapphire asks
"One thing, thank you for not name dropping me, that's helpful. Second, I'm aware of today's news report." Shadow responds
"Wait, you've read it?"
"Yep, so has everyone else."
"Everyone as in everyone or just a few of them?"
"As in everyone, including Silver I'm guessing. I don't trust him."
"That's because..."
"He knows of our relationship. He could spread details to the press."
"Is there something else? You seem... on edge."
"I see him as a threat to our relationship."
"Are you sure? He didn't seem all that bothered when he found out that you're my boyfriend."
"I don't know how to explain it."
"I'm guessing you don't like him very much."
Shadow soon falls silent and Sapphire realises that this is true. Sapphire quickly starts to become stressed.
"Are you okay?"
"Is this 'fame' thing gonna wreck our relationship?"
"Look, I wouldn't ask you to be my wedded if I didn't love you enough. Plus, I see it as a rough patch that we'll get through."
"Really?"
"I'm certain of it."
Soon, the pair are sitting in silence. As for the others, they're greeted by a reporter, breaking the rules of Sapphire's break.
"Hello, is there someone here that knows about Sapphire's partner?" The reporter asks
"I could share something." Silver responds, with an ace up his sleeve
"Would you care to take me somewhere and reveal all?"
"Yes, I would be delighted."
Silver and the reporter go off to the cave top; for Amy to start stressing.
"Amy, are you alright?" Sonic asks
"Didn't you hear that just then? We need to warn Sapphire and Shadow!" Amy responds
"I think they'll know before we can get to them." Tails says
"Tails does have a point; the press release new stories before those affected can be warned." Blaze informs
There is soon a huge sense of concern in the air. Unbeknownst to Sapphire and Shadow, they're in the city as they notice night falling.
"I'm gonna turn in. Are you coming or sleeping alone?" Sapphire asks
"I think I'll join you." Shadow responds
Sapphire and Shadow turn in for the night. Morning comes, there's a knock at the door and Sapphire is the first up to answer.
"Hello, delivery for Sapphire Hawthorne. A news report." The delivery person announces
"A press release? That wasn't meant to happen for six weeks at least." Sapphire responds
"You might wanna read it; seems like one of the reporters has broken the rules of your hiatus."
"Wait, that's what it's called?"
"Yes, that's right. Anyway, I've other deliveries. Bye for now."
"Goodbye for now."
Shadow soon wakes up, wondering where Sapphire is. As for Sapphire, she reads the report and sees Silver's name. She carries on reading to find out that Silver has revealed her relationship to Shadow. Sapphire is quickly infuriated.
"That white-shaded weasel!" Sapphire shouts, prompting Shadow to come downstairs
"Is everything alright?" Shadow asks
"Not only has one of the reporters broken the rules of my hiatus, but they've also went to our homeland and Silver has revealed our relationship! That weasel, he's gonna get a piece of mind!"
Without further words, Sapphire storms off to her homeland and Shadow keeps up; knowing her intention, he proceeds with caution. Sapphire reaches her homeland, in search of Silver.
"Where's Silver?! He has me to deal with!" Sapphire bursts, infuriated
Sapphire is quickly in search of Silver.
"Is everything alright with Sapphire?" Sonic asks
"No, I'm afraid not. Silver has revealed our relationship to a reporter who was breaking the rules. A press release was delivered to her and she saw Silver's name and what he revealed. Therefore, she's furious with Silver." Shadow responds
"You need to catch up with her, before either one gets hurt." Blaze informs
Shadow wastes no time in finding Silver and Sapphire. As for Sapphire, she finds Silver; on the cave top, looking pleased with himself. Furious, she storms up there.
"Hey, you!" Sapphire bursts
"Well, look who showed up." Silver responds
"Don't try flattering me, I know what you've done!"
"What have I done?"
"Don't play innocent and dumb with me! You revealed the relationship to a reporter who was breaking the rules of my hiatus. As a result, they've issued a press release, and everyone knows about it."
"Isn't that what you wanted? People knowing of your relationship, and who you're with..."
"No, it isn't! In fact, you should've never said anything to that reporter; let alone tell them about the relationship!"
"What does it matter to you? You're not doing anything now."
"You white-coloured, spine-covered weasel! This... this friendship, we're done! I hate you!"
Furious, Silver readies an attack behind Sapphire's back. He fires the attack; for Sapphire to dodge the attack. Sapphire readies herself, for another battle and gets her defences ready. Soon, the others notice a bright light shining from the two enemies.
"That's Sapphire and Silver!" Shadow says
"This. Isn't. Good." Amy responds, knowing what's coming next
The group race to the cave, to notice the battle unfolding. Shadow tries to get to Sapphire, to be stopped by Blaze.
"No, don't." Blaze instructs
Shadow continues to watch as Sapphire gets hit by a series of attacks. With her defences weakened, Sapphire lands on the cave top, defenceless and vulnerable to attack.
"Now you'll get what you deserve!" Silver says, readying an attack
Shadow quickly uses his Chaos Emerald to get to Sapphire's aid and puts up a force field around him and Sapphire.
"Get away from Sapphire! You've hurt her enough!" Shadow shouts, deflecting Silver's attack
"What're you to do about it?" Silver responds
"One of my duties is to protect Sapphire, whenever she gets injured. By the likes of you. Plus, I'm not one to betray those that I care about."
"Get out of the way, you're not needed here!"
"Not if you're to hurt Sapphire! Amy tried it and failed. I'm not letting you get to Sapphire!"
Shadow quickly fires an attack, without Silver's prior knowledge. Sapphire uses her healing spell and gets back on her feet, shakily but falls back down again. Shadow notices this and helps Sapphire to her feet.
"I'll manage on my own. You focus on ridding that weasel!" Sapphire instructs, as she falls back down again, unconscious
'He's done it this time! Time to rid this loser!' Shadow thinks, becoming infuriated
After a few hours, Shadow calculates his final attack on Silver and carries it out. Silver is hit and quickly falls to the ground. Shadow quickly gets to Sapphire, using the healing spell on her.
"Powers, with mystery and the unknown, heal the ailment from the sufferer's veins." Shadow recites, causing Sapphire to awaken
"How did you learn that?" Sapphire asks
"I heard you say the words, using the spell on yourself." Shadow responds and soon adds "So, it turns out that it doesn't work when used on the person casting the spell."
"Yes, it seems to only work on others."
Shadow and Sapphire soon stand, hand in hand, and start walking down to the cave entrance. Silver gets up and sees the pair in front of him.
"Well, look who's weak. You weasel!" Sapphire says, not sounding very forgiving
Silver is quickly silent and staying that way. Shadow approaches Silver.
"I told you, to stay away from Sapphire. Instead, you infuriate her by sending out a press release of our relationship. Apologies will not cut it; not at all!" Shadow says, quickly silencing himself
Silver stands up and quickly recovers, much to Sapphire's surprise.
"He's right, apologies won't cut it for this incident. You try and hurt me, you've gotta get past Shadow, and vice versa. Last words from me: get lost and never return, ever!" Sapphire says, shedding a tear
"Wait, that's a bit harsh. He's still a friend of ours." Blaze informs
"That doesn't mean that he'll ever be forgiven." Sapphire responds
"That's true. But that doesn't mean he has to be sent back home."
"Blaze makes a good point. We may never forgive Silver, but he doesn't deserve something that harsh." Shadow says, getting through to Sapphire
Sapphire approaches Silver.
"Shadow and Blaze are right. You don't deserve something that harsh. My reaction wasn't ideal for any of us and that's what sparked things off. I apologise for that." Sapphire says
"You're forgiven. I know that I'm not gonna get forgiveness for my betrayal, you've said it yourselves." Silver responds
"You're right on that one, Silver. I commend you on your realisation." A voice says
Sapphire turns and sees Felicity's spirit, hovering above them.
"Felicity, what're you doing here?" Sapphire asks
"Hello, my dearest friend. I've seen all of this unfold. From when your fame was found to what happened just now. You deserve everything you have now; Shadow, your friends, the fame that was bestowed upon you. Don't let it slip away." Felicity's spirit responds
Sapphire covers her mouth and starts shedding tears, realising that her friend helped her get what she deserves. Shadow notices and comes to comfort Sapphire.
"Shadow, thank you for taking great care of my best friend. Take this, as my thanks." Felicity's spirit says, handing Shadow an item
"What's this?" Shadow asks
"A spell book. I understand that you don't want to use magic. But, it's more something to read as opposed to learn from. I've had this since I was small. Now, it's my turn to pass it onto someone else, that is trusted to keep it."
"Just accept it, babe. Since you've taken care of me well, Felicity is giving this to you as a reward for your efforts." Sapphire says, cheering up
Shadow accepts the spell book.
"Thank you, Felicity." Shadow says
"You're welcome. I must leave now, but I'll see you all again." Felicity's spirit says, disappearing into the distance
Sapphire soon investigates the distance, hand on heart, elated about Felicity's support, even in her absence. Blaze soon has an idea.
"Let's celebrate the occasion, in the city. I'm sure there will be somewhere to celebrate." Blaze announces
"That's a great idea, Blaze." Amy responds
"Wait, you still want to go to the city, after what's happened?" Sapphire says
"Sure, I don't see the issue. Plus, I think it'll give Silver and yourself the chance to rekindle that friendship, if you wish to."
Sapphire turns to Silver.
"Silver, I might not forgive you for the incident that happened. But I do want to leave it in the past and get back what we've lost so quickly. That's if you're willing. You don't have to." Sapphire says
"I'm willing. We never even got to talk properly." Silver responds
"That's true, so true. But, rekindling this friendship will take time, as do all things."
"Are we going or what?" Sonic asks, getting impatient
"Can I join you all, if that's alright?" Harriot says, causing Knuckles to step out of the group
"Harriot you look stunning!" Sapphire says
"Thanks. I've decided to come out of hiding and use a spell I remembered from my youth to dress into the get up."
Knuckles is quickly admiring Harriot, with her returning the same thing. Knuckles approaches Harriot.
"Would you like to join me tonight?" Knuckles asks
"Really, you want a Valkyrie to join you?" Harriot asks
"Yes, I've liked you for you ever since the day we met, not that I could bring myself up to say."
"Well, I've liked you ever since that Halloween celebration. Then, I got scared that you wouldn't want me and went into hiding."
"Turns out that's not true."
"No, it isn't. Also, yes I'd be delighted to join you with your friends."
Knuckles and Harriot soon embrace, and the rest of the group celebrates.
"Alright, enough of that. Let's go already!" Sonic says
"Okay, okay. C'mon you two, let's move before someone loses his cool." Sapphire says, prompting Knuckles and Harriot to join them
The group get to the city, to be greeted by Scarlett.
"Hello again, Scarlett. What brings you here?" Sapphire asks
"Ever since today's press release, everyone's been wondering when you're coming out of hiatus." Scarlett responds
"How's about right now and I'll get another one when I need it?"
"Yes, that sounds doable. Because, there's a celebration being held at the city hall and your appearance would be highly appreciated."
"Can Shadow and my friends join me?"
"Certainly, follow me."
Scarlett guides the group to the city hall, to be greeted by fans of both the romantic couple and Sonic, asking for autographs.
"Are you ready for this, Shadow?" Sapphire asks
"I'm ready, if you are." Shadow responds, holding Sapphire's hand
Very quickly, the press are getting shots of Shadow and Sapphire before they move further into the hall.
"Wait, before you all go in you need attire. Tailors, take my guests to get new clothes!" Scarlett instructs, for Knuckles, Amy, Sonic and Silver to be taken away for tailoring
"What about us?" Shadow asks
"Don't worry, I've got it covered." Sapphire responds, clicking her fingers
Shadow and Sapphire are soon in attire, fitting to the occasion. The pair are quickly admiring each other's outfits, holding hands. Sapphire quickly starts to blush, for Shadow to notice.
"You're getting good at the blushing thing." Shadow says
"Yeah, you keep saying." Sapphire responds
"Do it more often. You look more beautiful when you do."
"Thanks."
"Now, let's get in that hall. We've got a crowd to please!"
Sapphire is quickly elated about Shadow's support and gives him a hug, for Shadow to return it. Soon, the rest of the group returns in suits and dresses and they all get into the hall. Knuckles pulls Harriot aside.
"Yes? What's up?" Harriot asks
Knuckles clears his throat.
"Could I offer you this dance?" Knuckles asks
"Yes, I would be honoured." Harriot responds
Soon, everyone is dancing. Some time passes and the music slows, for the room to stop and watch Knuckles and Harriot and Shadow and Sapphire. Shadow soon makes a diamond headpiece appear, using magic. Sapphire soon admires the headpiece, watching it glitter in the light.
"Sapphire, would you take me as your wedded?" Shadow proposes, whispering
Sapphire soon freezes, not only admiring the headpiece but stuck for a response.
'I want to accept his proposal, but I don't know whether to.' Sapphire thinks
After some time weighing things up, Sapphire reaches a decision.
"I would be honoured to take you as my wedded, Shadow." Sapphire whispers back
The pair are quickly locked in a soothing embrace and the press is quick to surround them, asking questions about when the wedding is and where it'll be held.
"You should've seen this coming, babe." Sapphire says, with a beaming smile
"I didn't expect you to accept my proposal, after only a few days." Shadow responds
"Well, that's surprises for you. You never know when they'll come."
"Congratulations, Shadow. You've done yourself proud tonight, my friend." Blaze congratulates
"Thank you, Blaze."
"Excuse me? Can I get to Sapphire Hawthorne please?" Scarlett asks the reporters and photographers
Scarlett reaches Sapphire, for her to notice.
"You called, Scarlett?" Sapphire asks
"Yes, can I pull you out for a moment?" Scarlett responds
"Sure."
Scarlett and Sapphire get out of the group.
"What is it; is it important?" Sapphire asks
"You've been requested to appear at a celebration in an idyllic countryside villa. You can bring your boyfriend for support if you want." Scarlett responds
"Fiancé, by the way."
"Wait, Shadow's proposed to you?"
"Yes, check out the headpiece he gave me."
"Wow, a diamond headpiece. He means it, don't throw it away."
"I won't, because I knew he meant it when he tried to propose with a gold headpiece."
"Shadow's tried already. Why didn't you accept before?"
"I didn't feel ready. Plus, something had happened between me and a friend."
"Apart from those details, you need to leave right away. You need to be on your way and arrive before the event starts."
Sapphire quickly freezes.
"Okay, that's a development." Sapphire says, for Shadow to approach the duo
"Is everything alright?" Shadow asks
"I've been requested for an appearance at an event and need to leave now." Sapphire responds
"Is this true, Scarlett?"
"Yes, and I apologise about the timing. But they have said that Sapphire can bring you or a different friend for support." Scarlett responds
"Can I bring another friend as well?"
"They have said that they're open for more, if necessary."
"Shadow, could you get Blaze please?"
"Sure."
Shadow goes to look for Blaze.
"Hey, Blaze." Shadow greets
"Hello, Shadow. Is everything alright?" Blaze responds
"Sapphire wants you for something. It'll be explained once you reach her."
"Okay, take me to my friend."
Shadow takes Blaze to Sapphire, for her to become confused.
"What's going on?" Blaze asks
"Hello, I'm Scarlett Walters, Sapphire's manager. Sapphire has been requested to appear at a celebration." Scarlett informs
"What do I have to do with it, exactly?"
"I've been told that I can take Shadow or a friend to the event. But the hosts are open to more attendees, if necessary." Sapphire answers
"Right, so what you're asking is...?"
"Could you join Shadow and I for the appearance?" Sapphire asks
"I'd be delighted to. Where is the event?"
"At a countryside villa. We need to leave right away, so that we can get there early." Scarlett answers
"Right, that's pretty soon."
"That's the life that Sapphire's living I'm afraid. Let's get moving."
Soon, the trio leave and begin travelling to the villa. After around two hours, they all arrive at their destination and are greeted by the villa owners.
"Hello there, you must be Sapphire Hawthorne. I'm Lady Bennett, I own this villa with my husband, Lord Bennett." Lady Bennett introduces
"Hello, Lady Bennett. Yes, I'm Sapphire. This is my fiancé, Shadow and my friend Blaze." Sapphire introduces
"Lovely to meet you both. Hello again, miss Walters. I talked to you about the celebration and the request for Sapphire's presence."
"Yes, that's true. I'm Sapphire's manager for her career."
"Congratulations on finding your new client, miss Walters."
"Thank you very much."
"Let us be moving inside, folks. Let us show you all where the event is being held." Lord Bennett instructs
The trio follow the hosts inside the villa, to notice expensive paintings and décor plotted around.
"Your home looks amazing." Sapphire compliments
"Thank you very much, Sapphire."
Soon, the group reach the reception hall. Realising the size of the hall, Sapphire strays from the group and admires her surroundings.
"This hall looks stunning!" Sapphire says
"Thank you very much. This is where the celebration is being held, folks." Lord Bennett responds
"Would you care to tell us what the event is for?" Blaze asks
"My apologies, we didn't give any details on what the event is for. The event is to pre-wedding celebration for our daughter Maxine Bennett. She has recently got engaged to her girlfriend and as tradition, we're celebrating a pre-marriage party at the villa. Maxine has requested that a celebrity appears at her celebration. Maxine then read about Sapphire in the paper and requested to meet her."
"Anything else?"
"Maxine was the one that said that Sapphire could bring someone else and we've agreed to let her bring more than one if that is wanted."
Sapphire soon gets back to the group.
"Does this place need decorating for the event?" Sapphire asks
"Yes, but we have people to decorate for us, so that the area is ready for the event." Lady Bennett responds
After looking around the hall, everyone leaves and gets shown to the garden. Sapphire quickly strays from the group and begins to adore the nature-filled surroundings.
"The scenery is stunning! I'm guessing it cost a lot of cash to get this place." Blaze says
"Yes, and it took a lot to decorate the home as well." Lady Bennett responds
"Sapphire seems like she likes the garden."
"Sapphire loves nature and beautifully decorated spaces." Shadow says
"How do you know that?"
"I'm Sapphire's fiancé, and plus I know her very well."
Shadow is quickly admiring Sapphire, running around in happiness.
"Do you want us to leave you both?" Blaze asks
"You don't have to." Shadow responds
Blaze and the others decide to leave Shadow and Sapphire alone. Shadow approaches Sapphire and hugs from behind.
"Hey, there." Sapphire greets
"Hey, you seem happy." Shadow responds
"Yes, the place is stunning, and the garden just tops it off."
"The lights are beautiful tonight."
"Yes, certainly. Are you trying to say something?"
"Maybe, maybe not."
"If you are, just get to the point. I don't think we have long until we're to meet Maxine."
"Wait, we have to meet the Bennett's daughter?"
"Yes, that's one of the main points of this appearance."
As for Blaze, she approaches Shadow and Sapphire.
"Hey, you two. I don't mean to cut your time short, but you've gotta get in before Maxine arrives; the celebration is about to start." Blaze informs
"We're coming, c'mon Shadow! We need to move!" Sapphire instructs
Shadow and Sapphire quickly run to the entrance, to be approached by Lady Bennett.
"Hello, what's required?" Sapphire asks
"Attire change. Your ensembles are not right for this celebration." Lady Bennett informs
"We were at a different celebration before we arrived and didn't get time to change."
"Nonetheless, miss Hawthorne, you and your fiancé need to change your attire. Get on with it, Maxine is on her way."
Shadow and Sapphire are quickly escorted to different rooms on the second floor. Sapphire is quickly greeted with dresses and a member of care staff picks out a dress for Sapphire to wear. Sapphire quickly has a hunch that the dress picked out won't suit her.
"Do I have to wear this?" Sapphire asks
"I'm afraid so, miss. I know, Lady Bennett doesn't have a great taste in dresses." The care staff responds
"This dress isn't gonna suit me. I would prefer it if I kept wearing my current dress."
"I understand, miss. The one you're wearing suits you perfectly. But I can't do anything about that."
The care staff leaves, and Sapphire reluctantly changes her dress for the evening. She looks in the mirror and instantly hates it. Sapphire leaves and notices Shadow, in a suit and tie looking better than she feels she looks.
"Hey, th--- what is that dress?" Shadow asks
"I know, I hate it and it doesn't suit me at all. You look better than me." Sapphire responds, in embarrassment
"Apologies about reaction, and I hate to say it, but I agree with you; you and that dress don't go together."
"Hello, you two. How are--- oh my goodness!" Lady Bennett says, noticing Sapphire's attire
"Oh, not you as well."
'Why this dress? I want my other one back...' Sapphire thinks, becoming frozen
"Right, get back into the one you were wearing before and please clean it up; hate to say it, but that dress is a mess. As for you Shadow, you are needed downstairs for preparations. Get to it!"
Shadow goes downstairs and Sapphire heads back to her dress, to notice Lady Bennett's point. After around an hour, Sapphire made the dress white and pristine, with embellishments on the top of the dress. Blaze soon enters the room.
"Hey there, Sapphire." Blaze greets
"Hey, Blaze. What's needed?" Sapphire responds
"Lady Bennett has asked me to give you these to wear with your dress."
Blaze hands Sapphire a veil shawl and a crystal headband.
"This is as a form of apology for the 'fashion faux pas' as the Lady puts it." Blaze says
"Can you go and feedback to her, saying that I thank her, and she's forgiven?" Sapphire responds
"Sure, get yourself finished off; Maxine's here and she's dying to meet you."
"Yes, I'll be down soon."
Blaze leaves and Sapphire finishes up. After around ten minutes, Shadow starts getting impatient.
"Where's Sapphire?" Shadow asks
"She'll be down here soon. Just start talking to someone." Blaze responds
Shadow begins talking to Maxine. As for Sapphire, she starts getting nervous and then Felicity's spirit appears.
"Hey, old friend." Felicity's spirit greets
"Oh, Felicity. What're you doing here?" Sapphire responds
"Listen to me, you look stunning. With what you're wearing, you'll make heads turn. I'm sure of it. Now, get down there and show them what a stunner you are!"
Sapphire soon gathers her confidence as Felicity's spirit disappears and goes to the balcony.
"Oh, look someone's up there. Who's that?" A guest says
"She looks absolutely stunning." Another guest says, as the whole room looks in Sapphire's direction
Shadow looks up and watches as Sapphire walks downstairs, becoming more enamoured the closer she gets. Sapphire is soon looking around the room, bewildered.
"What?" Sapphire asks
Soon, a guest taps Sapphire on the shoulder, it's Blaze.
"Hey, Blaze. Why's everyone looking at me?" Sapphire asks
"It's your outfit; everyone keeps saying that you look 'absolutely stunning'." Blaze responds
"Oh, okay. Isn't the guest of honour Maxine?"
"That would be me. You look fabulous, darling." Maxine says, walking in the entrance
"Oh, umm... thanks. You're Maxine. Hi, I'm..."
"Sapphire, yes I know. I'm the one who requested your appearance through Scarlett."
"Wow, you look nice."
"Thanks. I think someone wants your attention." Maxine says, pointing to Shadow
Shadow approaches Sapphire and she does the same. Shadow takes Sapphire's hand and pulls her towards his body.
"You look... I can't think of a word..." Shadow says, becoming nervous
"I know what you're trying to say and thank you. You look phenomenal yourself, Shadow." Sapphire responds and soon asks "Why are you nervous?"
"Me? That's ridiculous."
"No, it isn't. I can see it in your face."
Soon, Lady Bennett comes out for an announcement.
"Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to miss Maxine Lucinda Bennett's pre-marriage celebration. As this is traditional, our guest of honour will open the doors and let you into the hall. Maxine?" Lady Bennett announces
Maxine gets to the doors and makes her announcement.
"Ladies and gentlemen, as your guest of honour, I now allow you to enter my celebration. Please, enjoy yourselves." Maxine announces
Soon, all the guests are flooding inside the doors. Shadow and Sapphire are surrounded by reporters and photographers. After around twenty minutes of questions and photographs, Shadow, and Sapphire head inside. Shadow is quick to become nervous and lets Sapphire go ahead. Sapphire is quick to notice that Shadow is far behind as the pair get further into the hall.
"Are you okay?" Sapphire asks
"Just nervous, that's all." Shadow responds, quickly silencing himself
"Do you want to ask something; is that it?"
Soon, the music begins to play and Shadow freezes. He then composes himself.
"Could I offer you this dance?" Shadow asks
"I would be honoured to accept your invitation, Shadow." Sapphire responds, taking Shadow's hand
Shadow and Sapphire get to the dancefloor. However, Shadow has no idea of what to do.
"You seem confused." Sapphire says
"Yes, I've no idea what to do." Shadow responds
"What were we doing at the other celebration we were at?"
"Talking, mostly. I saw other people having drinks."
"Typical party vibes. Wait, you've never danced before?"
"Not really."
"Knuckles and Harriot were dancing at the celebration. Maybe, if I can remember what they did I could help you out?"
"Really?"
"I don't mind. Unless, you want to take advice from other people here. The choice is yours."
Shadow soon spots a couple dancing and watches intently. Sapphire joins and is taken by surprise as Shadow retakes her hand and begins to dance.
"How did you pick that up so fast?"
"It beats me. But I've managed. That's what matters most."
"Yes, that's true. Anyway, I think the music's stopping for something."
Soon, the music stops, and Maxine takes centre stage.
"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. Thank you for attending my celebration and mingling so well. Nonetheless, let us get to the point. Tonight, is about me getting engaged to my girlfriend, and celebrating that occasion. But it does not feel right celebrating this without my special guest and my fiancée up here with me. Firstly, please welcome Rochelle, my fiancée." Maxine announces, prompting Rochelle to get on stage
The guests soon give their applause and congratulations. The applause soon stops as Maxine is about to speak.
"Now that I have introduced my partner, I will introduce our special guest. Please welcome to the stage, Sapphire Hawthorne. Please join us wherever you are."
"Who, me?" Sapphire asks
"Yep, you're Sapphire Hawthorne. Get up there, my friend!" Blaze responds
Maxine quickly notices Sapphire's nerves.
"Could someone please escort Sapphire to the stage?" Maxine asks
Shadow soon takes up the opportunity before someone else gets to Sapphire.
"Let's get you up there, shall we?" Shadow asks
"Let's." Sapphire responds
Shadow soon escorts Sapphire to the stage. Sapphire gets on stage and shakes Maxine's hand. All eyes are quickly on her and Sapphire becomes nervous.
"Are you going to say something?" Maxine asks
Sapphire soon breathes and composes herself.
"Hello, as you know I'm Sapphire Hawthorne. It's an honour to attend this beautiful event, celebrating the love between two people. I would like to say thanks to the hosts and Maxine herself for putting this together. Looking around and seeing everyone getting on so well is amazing to see. One of the others that I would like to give my thanks to is my manager, Scarlett Walters. Her impeccable style of management is to die for and a pleasure to work with. I would also like to thank my fiancé, Shadow the Hedgehog. He's been there through thick and thin, and respected my wishes when I request them. I also want to thank my friends and family for all their continued support whilst they've been around." Sapphire announces, before breathing and adding "Now, this event isn't for me, it's for Maxine. So, have a wonderful night everyone."
Sapphire is soon escorted off stage by Maxine and greeted by Shadow and Blaze.
"Hey, friend you did great up there! Nice one!" Blaze congratulates
"Thanks, I had to stop before I remembered Felicity and my father. We don't need any grief at this event." Sapphire responds
"No, we don't. This event is wonderful as it is." A voice says
Sapphire turns to notice Harriot with Knuckles, approaching her whilst avoiding the press.
"Oh, my goodness! What're you doing here?" Sapphire says
"It was a last-minute invite and we all accepted." Harriot responds
"Nonetheless, where are the others?"
"Ever since Sonic turned up, they've been surrounded by the press for the past ten minutes tryna get in."
"How did you two get in then?"
"We managed to avoid the press. It was quite easy." Knuckles responds
"Something tells me that you're both a team now."
"Wait, no, that's ridiculous!" Knuckles and Harriot stammer in unison
Sapphire is quick to realise that the pair are hiding something.
"C'mon. It's obvious that you both like each other." Blaze says
"Wait, he likes me?" Harriot asks
"Wait, she likes me?" Knuckles asks
"Please don't tell me you've not worked each other out yet."
"Blaze, isn't that obvious to you? They only became friends about four or five days ago and couldn't work each other out then." Sapphire responds
"Hey, is everything alright?" Shadow asks, joining the group
"Can I pull you out for a moment?" Sapphire responds
Shadow and Sapphire leave the group and go across the hall to talk.
"Basically, Knuckles and Harriot have taken a shine to each other and Blaze assumed that they'd worked each other out. But the opposite is true." Sapphire says
"So, wait, they're romantically interested in each other?" Shadow asks
"Yes, that's what I'm tryna get at. Don't tell me you've not figured that out."
"I won't say anything. But, how do you know?"
"They've told me, separately and they've been hanging out a lot ever since."
"Come to think of it, I have seen them walking around back home and going into the city occasionally."
"That's what we used to do when we were friends. Well, not go to the city. But, the walking around back home that's something we did, I think."
Shadow and Sapphire sit in silence and are hand in hand. As for Knuckles and Harriot, they're in a separate area in the hall, talking.
"So, it's true. You do like me." Knuckles says
"Yes, it's true. I didn't think that you'd still like me after I turned into this Valkyrie thing." Harriot responds
"Well, let me admit this. I've liked you ever since I first met you. To be honest, I was scared that you wouldn't feel the same."
"I was in the same position as you. Only, I've started taking a shine to you a few days after."
"So, what do you say; shall we give it a go?"
"Not yet. It's a bit too early to start anything. Plus, it won't be too long before the press bombards the rest of us. We need to spend more time to warm up to each other before anything can progress."
"So, is this a rejection?"
"No, it isn't. We've not known each other long and relationships are designed to enter slowly, like how Shadow and Sapphire got together. Y'know what I mean?"
"That makes sense. Shall we get back to the celebration?"
"Let's."
Knuckles and Harriot get back to the celebration as Sonic, Tails and Amy finally manage to get into the celebration.
"Hey, what took you so long?" Blaze greets
"We were surrounded by the press." Amy responds
"I'm guessing you were asked questions and faced with rumours, right?" Harriot asks, approaching the trio
"Yep, that's what happens in the lifestyle that Sapphire leads." Tails responds
As for Sapphire, she notices Sonic, Amy and Tails near the entrance.
"Hey, there's Sonic and the others." Sapphire informs
"They've managed to get in." Shadow responds
Shadow and Sapphire approach the trio.
"Hey, weren't you surrounded by the press earlier?" Sapphire asks
"Yes, Sonic loved it. Tails, not so much." Amy responds
"I should've guessed the reason for Sonic being so full of himself."
"How did you take it?" Shadow asks
"I didn't like it all that much. But I just dealt with it."
'Right, I'm talking to my manager about this.' Sapphire thinks
"I'm gonna find Scarlett and ask her what's going on."
Sapphire leaves the group to look for Scarlett, to find her talking with Maxine.
"Hey, Scarlett. Can I borrow you a moment?" Sapphire asks
"Sure." Scarlett responds
Sapphire and Scarlett leave Maxine.
"What's needed?" Scarlett asks
"How come my friends are getting tied up with the press? I thought it was just Shadow and myself." Sapphire asks
"Sonic is well known around the world. Since your friends were with Sonic, they've got the press all over them."
"But they were invited to the event, not to be bombarded by the press."
"This has nothing to do with me. I can assure you of that."
"The only ones that have managed to avoid the press are Blaze, Knuckles and Harriot. I'm gonna speak to them."
Sapphire leaves the hall to talk to the press and she is quickly bombarded with questions before she gets a chance to speak.
"Sorry to interrupt the questions, but I have something to ask. I understand that Sonic is well known the world over, but Sonic and my other friends came to attend this event. So, can you all do the kindest thing and leave my friends alone to celebrate?" Sapphire asks
"We were trying to get details on Sonic's relationship status before he went inside." A reporter responds
"The ones that were with him were trying to get through and all of you bombarded them and invaded their personal space. They're not the ones you're after, Sonic is."
"Could we please have Sonic only? He was the only one we wanted."
"Yes, I will. Just can you please leave my other friends to celebrate?"
The reporters and photographers wait near the entrance. Sapphire goes in and looks for Sonic, to notice him talking with Maxine's parents.
"Hey, Sonic. You're needed!" Sapphire informs
"Sure." Sonic responds
Sonic follows Sapphire, to notice the press patiently waiting for him.
"What's this?" Sonic asks
"The press want to speak with you. That's why they've bombarded you, Amy and Tails." Sapphire responds
"Alright, if you say so."
Sapphire goes back into the celebration hall. As for Sonic, he's bombarded with questions about his relationship status and is quickly taken aback.
"Right, I'm single and not looking for anyone." Sonic answers the questions
"Rumours say that you're dating someone. Is this true?" A reporter asks
"No, listen. That's not true, that relationship ended a while ago."
"Would you care to tell us who that was with?"
"No, I wouldn't. Look, that's in the past and I'd like it to stay there."
The questions quickly stop, and Sonic gets back to celebrating. Two hours pass and the event comes to a satisfactory close. Sonic approaches Sapphire, infuriated.
"Hey! What was that about?!" Sonic asks
"I didn't know about what would be asked until Scarlett told me about the press surrounding you, Amy and Tails." Sapphire responds
"They've asked me about my relationship status and then asked who I'm dating."
"You're not dating anyone."
"I've said that. They then asked me who I dated."
"You didn't say who."
"Well, I wasn't gonna say anything about Amy, was I? I want the press to stay away from her and the others, nothing more!"
"Well, I'm sorry about this. But I can't change what's transpired."
Unbeknownst to the two friends, a reporter was listening to their every word. The reporter then goes out to the other reporters and photographers.
"Hey, guys. I've just found out who the mystery ex-partner is." the reporter announces
The other reporters quickly read what has been written and have found their press release. One of the photographers overhears and goes in to warn Sonic and Sapphire.
"Hey, you guys." A photographer greets
"What're you doing here?" Sonic asks, with some distaste
"Calm it, Sonic. What is it?" Sapphire instructs and asks
"I'm Julie, one of the photographers, as you can see. One of the reporters came in and listened to your entire conversation. They've just shared the ex-partner's name with the other reporters and photographers."
"Wait, they've disregarded Sonic's wishes?"
"I'm afraid so. I wish I could stop them. But they've been looking for a press release all evening; much to your dismay, Sonic they've just found it."
Sonic is in a quick, intense burst of silent anger.
"What can be done now, Julie?"
"I'm afraid, that there's nothing that can be done. Once they've found their press release, they waste no time in getting it shared online and in the papers. I apologise for this."
"It's not your fault. Unfortunately, that's how the press are."
Sapphire soon travels to her city home to have time alone. As for Sonic and Julie, they're still talking.
"What can be done about this?" Sonic asks
"You could always get a bodyguard for Sapphire and the others. I mean, I've been tryna get out of photography for ten years and need a new career." Julie responds
"So, you don't like the job you have?"
"No way if it means being the prying eyes of the celeb world. I'd prefer being a bouncer or bodyguard. I've got the training to show for it."
"Why don't you change jobs then?"
"It's not all that simple when you're working for the press."
Julie and Sonic go their separate ways. As for Sapphire, she goes up to her roof terrace and turns into her human form. She approaches the edge and takes out her raven feather. She's quickly in her long-sleeved t-shirt and denim shorts and flies up to the crescent moon. Sapphire looks at the moon and flies back to her roof terrace, to notice Shadow looking for her. Sapphire soon uses her invisibility spell, lands, and speeds towards her home entrance; for Shadow to hear her movements.
"Sapphire, I know you're here." Shadow says
Shadow is soon listening out for Sapphire, to hear her feathers ruffle. Shadow approaches to the home entrance, for Sapphire to run around the corner and rid her camouflage. Sapphire speeds inside her home towards her bedroom; for a force field to come up around her and a fire and water aura to appear at her feet. Shadow finds Sapphire and approaches with caution.
"Don't come too close!" Sapphire warns
"What's happening?" Shadow asks
"I don't know. The only thing I do know, is I don't want you to get hurt."
"Is everything alright?"
"I've got something I want to say, but l don't know how to say it."
"Is this to do with our engagement?"
Sapphire's force field lowers.
"Yes, it is. Look, I still love you all the same. But this feels as though it's going too fast. I want to slow things down. Starting with going back to boyfriend and girlfriend."
"Is that it?"
"Also, I don't want this to end because we've gone in too fast. Make sense?"
"Yep. That makes sense. I do mean it when I say I love you enough to become your wedded."
"I know, and respect that. It's just that I'd rather go slower with our relationship. We've not been dating all that long. Plus, I don't want or need another romantic disaster."
"So, what about your headpiece and the press?"
"Could you take the headpiece back? Also, the press will find out on their own. Sooner or later."
"What do you want me to do with the headpiece?"
"Still keep it. I just don't want to get married yet. That's all."
"Fair enough."
Shadow takes the headpiece and makes it disappear. Sapphire soon takes Shadow's hand and pulls him close. Unbeknownst to what the next five years will bring them, the pair call it a night.
