I still couldn't sleep. After our little meeting we talked and ate the canned beans we found. It was a happy night, minus everything about The Phases. But I still couldn't sleep. I've been Just staring at the molding ceiling willing for sleepiness to overtake me.

"Hey." Someone whispered to me. Chase! I turned to him and smiled. "Can't sleep" he asked.

"Nope." He nodded thoughtfully. His violet eyes sparkled in the dark. He put an easy smile on his face and I almost melted.

"Do you want to get some air?" he asked questionably.

"Right now?" I said confused. "But it's already dark outside." He grinned.

"Night walks are the best kind of walks." He got up and nudged my foot.

"Let's go." He said as he reached for my hand.

"Okay. Let's go." Practably beaming I take his hand and he pulls me up. Chase then strolls to the exit of the magazine store, and I follow him.

We walk down the sidewalk. I replay the memory of his hand in mine.

"It's nice to finally get some air." He said.

"Yeah." I reply. He turned and looked at me. His sparkling eyes looking into mine. Butterflies erupted in my stomach.

My head pounded. It felt like someone was twisting a knife that had been plunged into my head. Where was I? I groaned, why me? I think I qualify as one of the most unluckiest people.

"She's awake." someone whispered. I opened my eyes. I was laying on a sofa. I sit up so I can look around some more. I was in a small living room, the sofa I was sitting on had a floral print that made it look like a old grannie's sofa. The only exit in the room was the door to the right of me. How am I going to get this one?

"Ahem." Oops, I didn't even notice the guy sitting right in front of me, not like I really cared. He had blond short hair. Freckles littered his face, and he had goldish-green eyes. "Ah, that's better, now you're actually looking at me."

"Oh, I know too bad I couldn't brace myself. I mean." I pause dramatically and look him over. Then I smirked. "I think I might have nightmares." My lips quirked into a smile.

He wasn't fazed at all by my comment he actually just stared right through me, like I wasn't there. Then he returned his gaze.

"My name is Nick."

"Like I care?" I rolled my eyes and got up. "Me and my group will be leaving now, thank you very much." I turned away but he stood up and grabbed my arm. Nick smiled sweetly.

"Don't worry about your group honey, you are no longer in charge." His grip didn't loosen as he said this. "Sit down and relax." He basically pushed me back on the sofa.

"So, where did you find the golf cart, and the guns?" I ask, actually interested. Nick paused as if contemplating if he should tell. He sighs.

"From the maker." Questions swirled around my head. Who was the maker?

"And that is?" I asked.

"We don't know, we just found a golf cart filled with weapons, it carried a card too. It said it was from the maker, that's it." My brow creased. Who was the maker? I searched my head trying to find some kind of memory that would link to that name. Nothing.

"But don't worry about that." He paused. "Actually you don't have to worry at all. You're no longer the leader of any group. Your opinion will mean nothing in any situation we are in, so why don't you get some sleep." He stood up and left the room. I heard the lock click behind him, then his footsteps fading away. I slumped on the sofa. What am I going to do?

Chase's eyes were misty when he looked down at me.

"Do you think we're going to survive this?" He whispered. I looked into his eyes and tried to smile. I took his hand in mine and squeezed it.

"We better. Or I'm suing the universe, it is not my time to go!" We laughed and we both pushed our concerns away. It was nice walking with him, I felt safe somehow, even though we were in this terrible nightmare. We were still holding hands and I was beaming with happiness.

"We should probably head back." He said, and we turned around and we walked hand in hand in silence the way back to the magazine store. It was already almost dawn and when we finally made it back, Jack was outside furious.

"Hey!" His tone caught me off guard. Usually he was so laid back. "What the heck did you guys think you were doing? Huh? Sneaking out in the middle of the night! This isn't Romeo and Juliet!" I looked at my feet, my cheeks burned. Chase let go of my hand.

"I'll see you in two days." He said with an easy smile. Butterflies filled my stomach.

"You better." I wink at him and enter the magazine store. What a night! I could still feel the warmth of his hand. I grab an old magazine and slump to the ground. I covered my face, pretending I was very interested in what I was reading, but really I was a smiling mess replaying our conversation.

We found a map of the city in a souvenir store nearby. I tried to focus on the map, but all I could think of was Adaline, the way she smiled, walked, talked, She was impossibly perfect. I remembered her hand in mine. The pleasant memory only lasted a second before Jack interrupted.

"Did you find a police station on that yet? Or atleast a gunshop?" I shook my head. "Give me that. You are so useless." I rolled my eyes as he took the map from me. "There right there. It's a little farther than Central Park. We can make it there before dark, if you can keep up." He grins and starts jogging. I follow.

The whole day we jogged. And only took little breaks. It was starting to get dark. We didn't make it to the station before dark, and Jack, of course, blamed it on me.

"You walk so slow. Come on, a toddler could do better." He kept on taunting me throughout the whole day. I just ignored him, I wasn't going to satisfy him by getting angry.

"Shouldn't we make camp now?" He looks at me as if I was stupid.

"Uh no. We only have a little more to go and then we'll be there. Stop being a baby." He starts to jog again! I groan, I'm so tired I could just sleep on the street. But the exhaustion hadn't seemed to register with Jack yet, and he kept going. Why did he have to be athletic? Ah! I start to jog again and tried to keep up but he was still about fifteen feet away.

Wompf! The air was knocked out of me. I hit the ground hard. Someone was on top of me. I buck wildly. This can't happen again! I managed to push off the person, I quickly stood. Crack! I hit the ground again. White spots covered my vision. Someone must have hit me on the head. A person put their knee on the small of my back, and pulled my arms back. I squirmed but it was no use.

"Chase!" I hear Jack yell. I see Jack in my side vision. He was outnumbered. He looked helplessly at me and then ran. All of my adredline passed through me and exhaustion took over, but I still struggled. I wouldn't show them I would quit! And then I got hit in the head with a butt of a rifle, and I changed my mind. I went limp, there was no way to stop it. Two boys pulled me from the ground. My hands were duct taped behind me. There was no escape. They turned left at a street light and walked down the sidewalk. Wait? Was that a golf cart? They shoved me in the back seat. One boy sat on either side of me. A black bag was put on my head. We started our journey. I tried to count the turns, so I would know where I'm going, but I lost track. The golf cart stopped. They pulled me out. Defeated I just went limp. At Least I would make it hard for them to drag me. Ha. one point for Chase. They dragged me a while, then I was thrown to the floor. I smacked my head on the wood floor, my hands were duct taped behind me so I couldn't break my fall. I groaned. I could feel a trickle of blood flow down my forehead blinding my vision a little. My hood was torn off. I looked at the floor, hunched on my knees.

"Well! What a surprise!" My blood ran cold. I knew that voice. "Well, don't just look at the floor! Don't you want to see your captor?" I ignored him. Of all people. His captor signaled one of his thugs. A hand grabbed a handful of my hair and tugged my head up painfully. Forced to look, I saw as clear as day the one and only, Tan Blond from Central Park, also known as Nick. He watched my reaction. He giggled! Actually giggled! This guy was insane.

"We are going to have so much fun together!" He clapped his hands together.
