Chapter 19 : As a mortal (1)

Looking straight at Embra's eyes, I get chills. it is not the chills from a more powerful and stronger person, it is not the chill from killing intent or pressure too but, this chill is the chills of Madness. As someone who had lived a life of war and blood for a thousand years, I know that chills. They can only come from people who have no fear for their death and will not hesitate to sacrifice everything they have to reach a goal.

That is the same type of madness I get from Embra, a mere mortal. But, maybe it is because of this madness that he reaches to this place in life. A place of the 'third richest man'. His name cannot be searched on the Internet and his wealth is also cannot be measured accurately. This morning, I woke up before Lady Keinnayi did and while I was looking at the rising sun, a thought suddenly occurred in my mind. More like a desire though.

I wanted to know how much Embra's wealth is compared to other people in this world. So, I search for him on the Internet, which is supposed to have all the information in the world. But, I could not find it. There are people with the same name but, there is not even a person with the name 'Embra' that is remotely as rich as Embra. Frustrated, I search for other wealthiest person in this world and a list dropped as the result.

There are 178 individuals in the list of 'World richest people' from the site called 'For*es' but, there is no Embra. I remember Lady Keinnayi saying that Embra's net worth from his own memory is around '130' Billion. So, he would be the third richest person in this whole world after someone called 'Kyel Sin' who is the second richest person. Hmm... How did he hide all that money?

When I ask that to the servants assigned to us, they smile warily and tell us that no one knows that. They also tell me that his wealth is more than 130 but, no one knows the exact number because those 130 billion do not include the value of his islands which was 10 billion per island approximately and things Embra owned. Those are purely money that Embra has not used but, can use at any given time.

Fascinating. It seems the economy and financial system of this world is more complicated here. I need to learn this. But, anyway, going back to when Embra offers us three job positions. That guy did not give any of the hints and told us to look for it ourselves. And, the only reason he gives us food, shelter and cars are that we are his guests and the reason for two million credit because of us being new residents in this world.

The currency exchange value changes every six hours on his island but, roughly, the two million credit is two million US dollars. So, he just literally told us to survive on his island with just two million credits. Wait, 'survive' is not the word... Okay, so, putting it this way, he will only give us two million credits for our luxuries but, it is also fine for us not to use it at all and just live in this palace.

Is he looking down on us? No, judging by Lady Keinnayi's expression, it seems, he did it to lessen her guilt. In the first place, I don't even understand why Lady Keinnayi is feeling guilty for a goddess to stay in the mortal world. But, well, this is not my place to judge her. My duty is to guard her and support her in any way I can.

That afternoon, Lady Keinnayi discuss with me about our future. She proposes that it would be best we get ourselves familiar with this world, first before searching for the three job positions. I am not amused with the idea of working for another person then working for Lady Keinnayi and her only but, I swallowed my pride and strive harder as best as I can so that I can be of use to Lady Keinnayi.

For the first month on Embra's island, we learn about the so-called 'common sense' of this mortal world. We learned about the geography, brief history and financial of each country. We also learned about the jobs that mortals do in this world to feed themselves or live life luxuriously. During that month, we refrain from going out oo much and just enjoy the palace but, as expected it was unbearable for Lady Keinnayi.

So, we chose our cars for us to travel around the island. Oh, by the way, a noteworthy thing that happened in this month is that both I and Lady Keinnayi almost attack at him when we heard we won't be getting any more clothes and daily necessities than those we bought at Tokyo. The three servants told us that Embra will only be providing just casual streetwear clothes for us once a week and all the design and colour will be sent at his discretion. I swear I am gonna get back at this guy for this later.

Anyway, right now, in front of us is a Bugatti Veyron that has a dark blue colour, waiting for us to drive. I think Lady Keinnayi chose this car for me because I saw her looking at another car from 'Maybach' with interest. I should choose that for another car. Embra promised a car for each of us, anyway. I have already been taught how to drive from one of the three servants, Hanako, who is an expert in driving sports cars.

Today, we will be driving all across the island and spend our days leisurely. So, all the three servants are in another car behind us that use electricity as fuel. Both cars are loaded full of foods and camping tools. I sometimes miss using magic to keep them all in a separate dimension and use only when necessary. Well, we will be living like mortals so, I often convince myself to think like one.

For the whole day, we drive around the island while stopping at the spot that has shades and nice to rest. The whole trip around the island is relaxing because all five of us are all women and so there is no holding back while talking. We had fun too. We reached the other part of the island where a hidden beach is. There were many people there. So, we just get out after seeing around the beach for a moment.

I feel unpleasant under those lustful gazes of men. I think Lady Keinnayi also feel the same because so do not disagree with us going to another place. At evening after we swam on the other side of the island where no one can see us, we return to the palace. Night food stalls are now setting up in the garden. So, we decided to just eat our dinner here. And, after having a few drinks at the bar by the pool, we retire for the night.

Sometimes, it occurred to me that living here is not bad. However, I have to constantly remind myself of my identity so that I do not forget my purpose in coming here. Even if Lady Keinnayi falls under the temptation of this island's luxuries, it is my duty as a Valkyrie to look after Lady Keinnayi. So, I cannot let my guard down.

Time passed and it is almost been six months that we have been living here. And, I can say for sure that we have been through many. Maintaining the luxurious cars, buying clothes, spending in casinos, going on underwater tour and flying to other islands, every one of those cost money and now both I and Lady Keinnayi are left with just a mere million in our black card. I have a little more than one and a half million but, Lady Keinnayi is left with just barely a million.

It may be because of our socializing, in which we had to buy formal clothes, purses and perfumes. Now I am glad that we do not have to pay for any meal and drinks. I swear that guy purposely left out about these. We rarely see him these days. We meet at least three to four times a week before but, now, we rarely see three to four times a month.

Anyway, Embra says that he has no intention of adding other things from his part. So, we have to decide on our future and thinks of ways to get some income before our money run out. Since then, we have to stop using Bugatti and mainly use Lamborghini Urus 6x6, which Embra gives us. We give out the Bugatti as a loan for other guest and secure a small income. And, it becomes much easier for us to get an income after Embra declares the opening of the underwater road that connects all of his four islands in the Philippines.

Once, we get curious and so we drive a round trip to all of his islands. In the end, it takes us two whole days to get back at the 'Rain' Island even though we five takes turn driving and we didn't take a long break on each island. The underwater view is also beautiful, breathtakingly at it too. I was reminded of my first time visiting the sea Dragon temple when I was young.

Anyway, after that road opened, we get an easy time making money. At first, me and Lady Keinnayi intended to loan only the Bugatti but, after the road opened, many shows interest in our Urus too. So, in the end, our greed gets priority and we also loan out the urus to any guest who pays us per hour. Now, the two of us are stuck in the palace.

With nothing special to do, we get time to focus on choosing our future professions. During the eight months of our stay on the island, we found out the three-position Embra wants us to aim for. For Lady Keinnayi, the first position is the advisor in the administrative office and the second is the advisor in the mall on all of the four islands. For me, the first position is the advisor for Embra's personal arm force while the second being the advisor in the car workshop.

The third job position for both of us is the caretaker of children centre. I swear that guy is mocking us. *sigh* But, he is spot on because those positions are more or less perfect for us. Being an advisor means that we are obligated to advise on something 'indirectly' and work at the scheduled time while getting a salary every month. It seems he gives these positions after thinking about our situation of 'cannot-change-this-world-destiny'.

We are only obligated to advise on something indirectly and we have no obligation to answer every question thrown at us and we can even choose to not answer any of it at all. That is convenient. The working hours and environment are also comfortable for us because we will be given another car for office use and we don't have to maintain or pay for the fuel. Unless we get into an accident, we can do whatever we want with the car and everything will be pay by Embra.

But, there is a catch. A huge catch. The positions will not be given. We have to earn it.

*sigh*

I swear, that guy is enjoying this game.
