Chapter 49 : The trial (1)

The trial of true-self for Embra is held by an ancient being and he asks a series of questions to Embra which he answers honestly without minding of 'Right' and 'Wrong'. The questions are all about his past actions that Embra enjoyed, regretted, loved, hated, or felt embarrassed. The questions he was asked were numbered in hundreds. To be exact, Embra is asked 108 questions. Through the questioning, Embra could not form a pattern or what the being wanted but, he can understand the vague meaning of the trial itself.

...

.....

"I ask thee. Do thou regret hiding thou own children like thy daughter, Hinata, as a cook?" (An Ancient voice)

"... I do. I did not understand the father love when I was young. I thought I am not ready to be a father for them yet. So, I hid the identities of all three of them and place them near me." (Embra)

"I ask thee. Do thou regret killing thou own subordinates?" (An ancient voice)

"No, I don't. I feed them and raise them up. They bit the hand that feeds them because of their greed or self-centered personalities. I do not regret killing them a bit." (Embra)

"I ask thee. Do thou feel happy to loot thou enemies?" (An Ancient Voice)

"I do. Starting from the moment I regard them as my enemy, the planning of their demise and till I deal with them lastly. I enjoy them all." (Embra)

"I ask thee. Do thou feel happy about killing people?" (An Ancient Voice)

"No I don't. I take no pleasure or regret in killing people but, if they are innocent people that get caught because of their unluckiness, I might feel sad for them for a moment." (Embra)

"I ask thee. Do thou hated thou parents for being poor?" (An Ancient Voice)

"... I might have in the past. But, now? No." (Embra)

"I ask thee. Do thou hated yourself for not getting fame thou deserved?" (An Ancient Voice)

"No. I would have to gladly refuse even if offered. But, there are some times I wished that I was famous." (Embra)

"I ask thee. Was there a person thou loved in thy life before Keinnayi Dewei?" (An Ancient Voice)

"... Yes. I did have one. I once loved my childhood friend but, well, as a person who comes from the bottom of the food chain, I feel inferior to her sometimes. So, I have already killed my love for her. Right now, I only love Keinnayi." (Embra)

"I ask thee. Do thou feel guilty for people indirectly killed by thou?" (An Ancient Voice)

"There were too many that lost their life indirectly because of me that I cannot even count them. But, I do not feel guilty for them. They died because they were unlucky." (Embra)

"I ask thee. Do thou feel guilty for thou subordinates that were killed because of thou orders?" (An Ancient Voice)

"Guilt? No. Sadness, Yes. If they were loyal to me. I would shed tears for them at their death and pray for their good next life. I would even take care of their family if there are any" (Embra)

"I ask thee. Do thou feel guilty who become poor or lost their fortune because of thee?" (An Ancient Voice)

"I started from the bottom of the food chain. There were many I stepped on and trampled on till I reach the top of the food chain. And, I do not feel guilty for those people for a bit." (Embra)

"I ask thee. Do thou want back thy fortune that thee used up all of it for charity?" (An Ancient Voice)

"No. I do not regret using them all up either." (Embra)

"I ask thee. Have thou once thought to create chaos and destroy the world?" (An Ancient Voice)

"Oh, that thought? I am sure that, I nearly thought about those thoughts daily since I decided to use all my fortune to change the world." (Embra)

"The last question, I ask thee. Do you regret your death?" (An Ancient Voice)

"... For the whole first year I live in this world, I regretted it because there are still many things I wanted to do on earth. But, since the second year, I do not think about regret anymore and started to enjoy the new life." (Embra)

"I *%$%^&*@# stand witness to Sky Embra's passing of a first part of the trial. You may proceed to the second part. Farewell" (An Ancient Voice)

"...? Huh? First part? Wait, Esteemed elder, please tell me what is the second part... Hello?" (Embra)

Embra did not hear the last part where the ancient being tell his name for he is not strong enough yet. The first part of the trial of true-self is concluded with this. Embra did not know this because the old man, the party who invites the participant, Embra, did not explain it even though the old man is obligated to. The first part is all about accepting oneself.

As long as one knows exactly what one felt about the past actions, one may pass this first part. Those who are unsure of one's own feelings will fail at this first part and roughly 20% of the total challengers failed this first part of the trial. They were consumed by their own sins and self-destructed but, Embra has successfully the first part of the trial. It was an impressive deed because he was not informed of what the trial was in the first place. He also did not learn how many parts he has to go before passing the trial or what he has to do in each part.

For someone who was drugged into the trial without any prior knowledge, Embra did a good job in evaluating his own past self and answered without minding what is 'right' and 'wrong'.

The ancient being who asks the question is also quite amused because Embra is by no means a 'good' guy. But, he is also not a 'bad' guy. Neither good nor evil can define Embra for Embra do whatever he wants to do. And, he does not feel guilty or scares of sins and punishment for he is a non-believer of any religion. The ancient being who questions Embra is truly amused with Embra's character. But, he does not express his feelings or speak a word to Embra who is asking left and right for him.

In the first place, he should not even be here. For him, who created the trial himself to hold the trial, that says a lot about the ancient being's view on Embra.

Soon, the light disappears and Embra is greeted with the darkness again. But, before he could ask anything he is pulled into some direction of the darkness again. Faced with the same treatment, Embra does not question anymore and decided to ride the flow but, he is already thinking about ways on how he should pay back the one responsible for preparing this trial without his consent or any warning.

In a separate dimension where four goddesses are watching Embra's trial, the first to react as soon as the ancient voice is heard is Gaia, who is a creator god and one of the most powerful gods in the room.

"!! This voice. There is no mistake. It is the creator of the trial, Genesis god Brahma. He himself is holding the trial? What is this young man's past?" (Goddess Gaia)

"The creator of the trial himself? ... There were only a few cases like that in the past that it can be counted. It seems Embra has the potential." (Goddess Lashili)

"Potential to be what, goddess Lashili?" (Algadore)

"Hm? You don't know?" (Goddess Lashili)

Goddess Lashili looks at Algadore in disbelief. Because of their conversation, Keinnayi and Sethar who are listening to the trial turn to Goddess Lashili and listen attentively. Goddess Gaia who started the conversation looks at the faces of young goddesses Algadore and Keinnayi. She remembers something and answers in the stead of Goddess Lashili.

"Ah, right. Thou are still young. So, thou might not have heard. The trial of true-self is held by a spirit created by the God Brahma. But, there were times when he himself hold the trial. Those times were so fewer in number that it can be counted on two hands but, there is one common trait shared in each trial held by the god Brahma himself. The challengers or participants that passed the trial held by the god Brahma, all become the creator gods.

My trial was also held by god Brahma and for that reason, Embra, that young child has the potential to become a creator god." (Gaia)

"..." (Everyone)

Except for goddess Lashili, everyone is shocked at the revelation by Goddess Gaia. Even Keinnayi, who is half listening to both the trial and the conversation, is listening to the conversation attentively and now she is equally shocked as everyone else. Sethar and Algadore are also shocked at the potential of Embra, which they sincerely have no idea about. For the last person in the room, the old man, he no longer has an ounce of strength or color in his eyes that he looks like someone who has given up on life.

'I am so, so, gone. *sigh* Now, there is no escape.' (The old man's thought)

The old man reflected on his rash action on Embra, who has the potential of being a creator god, and he is thinking about how he should go to the afterlife. He is even thinking about doing suicide but, we will talk about that later.

Right now, in a room where only the voices from the trial of Embra can be heard, the one who recovers from their shock first is Keinnayi. She gently embraced Embra who is still covered in thin golden light and there is a wide smile on her face.

"Embra... Did you hear my aunt? You have the potential to become a creator god. You can become a god, Embra. We can be together again..." (Keinnayi)

Currently, on Keinnayi's mind, there are only thoughts about how she is happy to hear that Embra can become a god. There is no emotion of greed or envy but, only the emotion of love and expectation that they are going to be together again.

Goddess Gaia smile at the pure thoughts of her niece Keinnayi. It is not only Goddess Gia who felt Keinnayi's mind. As a creator god who is higher ranked than Keinnayi, Goddess Lashili also heard Keinnayi's mind and smiles.

Sethar and Algadore who are standing behind Keinnayi look warmly at Keinnayi and say no words. After a short time, they all give their attention to Embra's try again. They may have been overstepping their boundaries by listening to Embra's trial but, they do not mind as they are all connected to Embra in one way or another.

Moreover, they are also wishing for Embra's success on the trial. So, there is no reason they could not look or hear Embra's trial.

Time passed and they all witnessed how Embra passed the first part of the trial. Everyone is elated at Embra's success and they cheer for Embra. Keinnayi says to Embra while touching his forehead with her,

"Congratulation on passing the first part, Embra. There are only two parts left. Please try hard. I will be staying beside you." (Keinnayi)

Under the eyes of diving beings, Embra's second part of the trial of true-self started.
