Worst Enemies

Sucking in a gasp, I throw the car into reverse and pull backwards, praying the shield is enough to keep the sound from reach Aiden. He doesn't turn as I peel around the corner and then into a space alongside the curb, at the edge of the neighbor's property, just out of sight.

Chase! Chase! I'm screaming in my mind, Can you hear me?

There's a buzzing in my ears, in my head, my heart's pounding so hard I can hear it echo in my skull, but I can't make out a voice. His voice.

Please, Light, Please… let him still be alive.
