Driver licence

Ben needed to drive to compare the companies efficiently, so he registered himself and paid the bills. As theory wasn't mandatory to start driving, Ben didn't lose time and directly found himself a driving instructor and arranged a first driving lesson. The driving lesson was scheduled for more than a week later.

While Ben was waiting for the first driving lessons to come, he went through the entire theory course. Thankfully, all the 21 hours of lessons were online and so Ben didn't need to break the theory in two days.

On Saturday, he worked through it and created his driving skill at night.

The Sunday, Ben reread most of the information and answered all the questions on the theory app till he answered everything correctly.

This whole process may seem unbelievable for some people, but with the low requirement of sleep, the will of steel, and the well-trained mind, it was possible.

What other took more than a few weeks of preparation, only took two days for Ben.

Still Ben had paid a price for it, as he had didn't have any time for a workout.

The reason he still did it was because two days would not be enough time to lose any muscles.

On Monday, he went to the nearest exam center.

His parents knew of his madness as they had promised him to pay his first try of gaining a driving license. Trying to stop him and taking more time, but he would always persuade them with his knowledge of the rules to drive.

The exam consisted of 30 multiple-choice questions. 20 questions were basic and the 10 other questions were additive. The German theory test was different than in other countries as the importance of the questions you failed, would determine if you failed the exam.

So as long as you learned the minimum coupled with a bit of luck you would succeed in the exam.

Most of the questions were so easy that it made Ben smile.

-In good conditions, what's the typical stopping distance at 70 mph?

-You're driving down a long, steep hill. You suddenly notice that your brakes aren't working as well as normal. What's the usual cause of this?

Then at the later end, Ben saw the questions that he would describe as difficult if he didn't learn everything.

When traveling on a dry road at 50 mph in decent weather, what is the standard average stopping distance?

– 36 meters

– 75 meters

– 96 meters

– 53 meters

´At 50mph, your thinking distance is 15 meters while 38 meters is the braking distance which makes 53 meters the correct answer. Now next question!´

When towing a compact-sized trailer on a packed 3 lane motorway, you notice all lanes being open. Should you:

– not go over 50mph

– decide not to overtake anyone

– fit a stabiliser

– stick to the centre and left lanes

'While some people may think all sound plausible, it is actually the last answer that is the one to pick. If this continues, I won't have any mistake.´

The questions followed and Ben was finishing the question without losing any time thinking.

´In terms of road transport, what percentage of emissions does it account for?

Easy. 20%.

If involved in a road incident, it is vital to care for any injured parties. After the scene of the incident is secure, you should…

Too easy. Make them stay in their vehicle.

When driving, you observe a pedestrian walking a dog. The dog has a burgundy or yellow coat. This tells you that the person is:

I hope that every driver knows the answer. Nobody wants to kill somebody, who is deaf, by accident…´

Having finished the test, Ben went out of the room as the first student. Ben didn't reread his answers as he knew in the worst case, he would have made a small mistake. Still, the result would be the same.

Just after finishing the exam, Ben went back to his daily school lessons.

As his sister already had her license, they went together to the driver training area.

There he learned everything he needed to not take any extra lessons.

A few days later, Ben had his first lesson.

The class B had 12 special hours: 5 overland, 4 Highway, and 3 in the dark. On average, learner drivers need at least 30 hours of driving.

Ben tried to speed up the process by asking a lot of questions and not making mistakes a second time. After a month of regular 90min drives, Ben had finally the practical exam.

His family was stressed by the exam, but Ben was abnormally calm.

Not only did he already succeed in the exams on the first try in his last life, but Ben was a lot more knowledgeable about driving, which gave his current calmness.

The exam didn't even have to be recounted to his friends and family as there was nothing exciting about it.

Most people would tell about the possible threats or the mistakes they did or how nervous they were, but nothing happened. It was a boring but almost unique exam.

Having finally his driver license, Ben used the cars of his parents to visit the five companies on the weekend.
