Check-ups Check-ups All Around

When the group walked into M.U.G. they saw M.A.V.I.S., Mrs. Strongwell and Dr. Pepper Smith waiting for them. M.A.V.I.S. looked like Jessica with an Earth style sexy nurse halloween costume on. Jessica in her panic screamed, "Master and Creator override," before she could commit a taboo Peter had clamped his hand down over her mouth laughing. M.A.V.I.S. looked a little surprised Jessica had jumped to the taboo of cutting off her access to the projectors. She knew of course it would freak Jessica out a little but hadn't taken into account how messing with her like this in front of such a large group would affect her. Jessica's shot small flames in M.A.V.I.S.'s direction.

"Jessica, I am sorry," M.A.V.I.S. said changing the outfit to a Karth nurse uniform.

Peter removed his hand from Jessica's mouth slowly and she breathed in deep and hit him with a static shock spell. He jumped back from her and she began chasing him around. The room filled with laughter as they watch these two hitting each other with static and wind magic. Peter ran outside and took flight. Jessica followed flying after him. He had honestly forgotten the whole reason she came up with the spell was so he couldn't keep getting away from her like that. She was 3 cycles old and he had stolen a toy she was playing with and flown up to the roof. He watched as she stood there puzzling for a bit and then suddenly she took flight and landed next to him. She grabbed the toy and flown back down. She was the first anything other than Fae to work out self flight. She achieved titles for it but didn't know yet what they meant.

He was halfway down the block when she caught up with him. She grabbed his arm and pulled him to the ground.

"We haven't had our check ups yet let's go back," Jessica said smiling and crossing her eyes at him.

Warmth filled Peter's heart and he admitted to himself once again that despite the fact that he and the other Fae had sworn of falling in love with mortals he loved her. She of course would gag at the thought, thinking of him more as a brother than anything else.

"Ok ok," Peter said laughing. They flew back and landed lightly just outside of M.U.G.

A sadness had found its way into her eyes and Peter tilted his head wondering why. It is not ok for me to be this happy. If I hadn't been so scared maybe I could have saved those people when the Blackout happened. Jessica thought. Peter having been focused on her heard it. He followed her line of sight to a flyer posted about a memorial service.

"Lets go inside," He said in a soothing tone and Jessica nodded and entered her store.

Jessica saw the kids had their health bars on display and walked over to them.

"Well now those are some big increases since the last time I saw them," she said, nodding her head in approval. They all groaned.

"Come on, Jessica," one said.

"Don't talk like an old fart," said another.

"Of course they are," said a third.

"When the hell did you see my health bar?," the last one asked.

Jessica laughed and the edges of her lips went up starting a smile.

"Oh no what are you gonna do to me?," the final kid to speak asked.

"How would you guys like to taste Earth candy?," Jessica asked a little excited. These young ones would be able to appreciate the time and effort that went into to making me such a special gift. I am so glad I copied the recipe and know how to make more now, she thought.

Jessica went into a small kitchen behind the main counter and began cooking. By the time she was done almost everyone had had their check up and she started handing out peppermint sticks as a reward. She started handing one to Harmon and his eyes started glowing a little. She pulled it back and tilted her head waiting.

"Ok, ok, I will have a check up, geeze, Jessica," He said the light going out. Harmon went to one of the stations to get his work-up done. His health bar had grown a little in the past two cycles as well. He was happy it was rare for an elf his age to gain hp so quickly. He let the doctor take some blood to run tests and did all the standard procedures for an elf check up including telling a lie and quickly telling the truth while the doctor monitored his brain waves. He explained the pain and the relief. Jessica stood close by watching it all go down. When he was done, she gave him a quick kiss on the cheek and handed him his candy. The flavor was unlike anything on Karth. The almost apples they knew from records where the closest thing to Earth food on Karth. They had been grown from seeds of an apple that had been in one of the OG's rooms but after the first bite had been taken it was clear on some level, that was not just their own changing bodies, that it was different from an Earth apple. Though no one could really name what the difference was. These peppermint sticks were very clearly 100% what they would have tasted like on Earth. Everyone licked them slowly enjoying the new flavor. Jessica now certain that everyone else had been cleared sat down in front of the doctor and did her own check up. Her's included a few parts the required privacy screens as the doctor looked once again at her perfectly healthy looking useless reproductive organs.

Just as hers was finished a few delivery people from the new sandwich shop showed up. They set up the long party subs and cups and drinks on the tables. When Dr Smith went to pay them they waved her off not accepting payment. Jessica had been about to sit down with her mom to eat when she noticed this and walked over.

"No really, I want to pay for the food. It looks delicious and I know how much hard work went into making it," Dr Smith was saying trying to find their holo-pay-pad so she put her thumb on it and pay.

"What's going on?," Jessica as she approached.

"They are saying something about the food being their families way of thanking you," Dr Smith said distractedly.

"Thanking me for what?," Jessica asked genuinely confused.

"Saving their lives ...," Dr Pepper Smith stopped looking for pad and looked at Jessica worry in her eyes. Jessica had a confused expression on her face. Saving their lives? I have never met these people. The day of the blackout clicking through her mind like a recorded with sand on it not getting the picture.

"Peter," she whispered and he and Harmon and Arholo were by her side in seconds. They had seen the doctor's slip. Jessica grabbed Peter by the back of his head and pressed his forehead to her own. Your mind to my mind your thoughts flow freely show the day of the Blackout to me. Peter heard this spell in his head. Everyone else just saw her standing there with his forehead on hers as her hair unbraided itself and took the shape of hands holding Peter in place. He would not have dared moved in this moment but her magic made certain of it. She saw herself dropping ice cream cone and looking up at the Skywalk she heard the command she placed it the minds of the Fae SKYWALK NET NOW she felt them joined together pooling their magic unable to pull any from a depleted Karth as Karth tried to drain theirs and it flickered in places causing holes. The quickly put out safety net she had them place under the skywalks caught and saved 7k of 10k. She saw herself from Peter's eyes crying and wailing in pain unable to accept any thanks. She watched the whole scene play out and heard the sound of her soul tearing and saw herself collapse. She let Peter go tears falling freely from her face.

"Mommy," she called out softly. Her mother rushed over and wrapped her arms around her.

"Its ok baby," Mrs Strongwell said stroking her daughters hair, "Don't cry its ok mommy is here."

Jessica pointed her face away from her mother's neck where she had buried it to breathe in her scent. She let out a long sigh of relief.

"All this time I thought I did nothing," Jessica said in a calm soft tone. Choking up a bit she said, "70% isn't perfect but at least it wasnt a total failure."

"Oh my sweet baby," Mrs Stongwell said as she grabbed Jessica under the chin, "What you did was more than anyone could have done. You saved thousands of lives. You are a fucking hero. Do you hear me young lady?" She kissed her daughter on the forehead and hugged her tightly. She held her until a few minutes later when she finally stopped crying.

"I am starving," Jessica said letting her mother go. She smiled and went back to her seat.

All over Karth people had been watching this scene play out carefully. Deep sighs of relief, tears of grateful thanks and whoops of joy could be heard from households all over Karth. She was finally ready the system decided and again award her title of Hero that she had hacked into and destroyed. The system also issued her a new unique title but didn't alert the people at M.U.G.s phones.

Jessica Strongwell

Has been awarded the title:

Acceptor of Past Regrets

There was no video link and no description. The system would add them for future generations when the time came. For now it was enough on its own for all of Karth. A few Dark Elves who were up to use the bathroom saw the title and smiled to themselves. Having not watched what happened but knowing exactly what it meant. They finished their business and went back to sleep.

The system also didn't alert one other phone on Karth. The now former Chairman was at that very moment ripping out ever holoprojector in his home. Smashing them into tiny pieces. With that job done he pulled a panel off the wall and began feeding it steel bars. Ever still steel bar he had. It powered a protection spell on his home that shielded him from the systems ever watchful eye. He had stolen the technology from an old family members journal and had put it in place cycles before. His ancestor had wanted to keep a project secret long enough to complete it. His plans were not as pure in nature.

Amarilla and Mr. Strongwell had been practicing some small spells together when their phones beeped. Unlike the others Mr. Strongwell's had a playback link. He watched his daughter finally accept that she had indeed helped that horrible day. Relief filled his heart and he let a few tears fall.

"Those sandwiches look yummy," Amarilla said knowing what was coming next, "Think if we go over there they will share with us?"

"Let's go see about that shall we?," Mr Strongwell said leaning down so she climb on his back. Amarilla smiled brightly and accepted the piggyback ride.

"I am hungry after all those new spells anyway," She commented and they set off towards M.U.G.

The Jesse P.A.I.L. now free to leave for a bit thanks to Jewlreld help joined them. In his normal settings as large black elf who looked very much like Morgan Freeman wearing the white suit from when he played God in Bruce Almighty. He had been the OG Jesse's favorite actor back on Earth.

It was indeed a fine day to be a citizen of the world of Karth. A renewed sense of freedom had taken ahold of its people as they also began to truly heal from the devastating loss just two cycles prior.
