Chapter 51: Impatience

Epra is among many planets with some form of civilization. It is unfortunate that Earth was cut short before its people had their chance to explore the stars and find the existence of intelligent life. They did find it, but not how they wanted. Thanks to a group Kevra was in along with a Seraphim ship, they were almost brought to extinction.

Within the large vault room, Kevra and Okolu are seen near the cube. Kevra continues to type on tbe keyboard in silence with Okolu standing behind her, his face constantly staying neutral throughout.

"So... About those two," Okolu said with a calm deep voice.

"You still going on about them?" Kevra said continuing to type.

"Are you sure you can trust them, Kevra?" He continued, talking a step forward.

"You haven't even met those two before, and only because the woman is the sister of the man named Aven, you decide to be friends."

Pausing, Kevra looks ahead ahead for a moment with a blank stare before letting out a sigh.

"You don't understand," she said, and continues type.

"I need to trust her. It isn't because of Aven."

She presses one final button and the screen shuts off before turning to face him.

"She's my only way back home."

"Isn't this your home?" He asked, tilting his head slightly with a frown

Chuckling, Kevra steps towards him before placing her hand gently on his cheek while looking up at him.

"Who said I can't have more than one home," she said, stroking his cheek home with her thumb.

"You can come with me if you like. I wouldn't want to abandon you."

"What about the others? I will not leave my family. They need my protection." Takes her hand within his, and lowers it.

Kevra takes her hand back before looking up at him.

"Do you think Anya will attack again?"

"It is only a matter of time," Okolu said, stepping past her before looking at the cube within the glass cylinder.

"She won't give up trying to retrieve this."

"It doesn't matter," she said, taking one look at the chamber, holding the cube before looking at him.

"I'll be gone by the time she finds this place." With a smile, she walks past him.

Okolu stands still for a moment, his gaze fixed on her as she walks towards the doors. Just then, he proceeds to follow after Kevra.

Both Okolu and Kevra walk through the hallway. The worried android turns his gaze to her for a moment before catching her attention.

"What?" Kevra asked before looking ahead.

"You're really going to leave them? Leave me?" Okolu asked,

"Hey I'm not going to be gone forever," she said with a gentle tone.

"I may have been raised on Esterd, but Epra is my home. I'm only going to visit an old friend. You'll see, I'll be back as soon as I can."

"What should I do while you're gone?" He asked in his deep precise voice.

"Keep the others safe and occupied. Build more with weapons to guard the place from other intruders."

Kevra opens a door and enters through with him into a room that is occupied by other androids stationed at computers and machinery. Multiple hollow shells of destroyed robots are seen hanging near the ceiling at both sides of the room.

Okolu meets his gaze with a few of them before they proceed working.

"I should probably send out a few out to scavange for more recourses. We seem to always recycle these days."

"Then you go do that," Kevra said, stopping at a smooth booth before opening it up with the scan of her hand causing it to open up, revealing a large screen with a large computer tower beside it.

"You've watched me go about this. I'm sure you'll keep the place in check."

She types out a few commands before the tower opens up into a gaping hole. The walls within it rotates in both clockwise and anticlockwise.

"This place will need a bit more juice, of course." Inserting her hand, Kevra's pupils start glowing before transparent blue flames surge into it, lightning up the place with large wires circulating with blue energy.

After a moment, a mechanism is heard. Her eyes return to normal before taking her hand out of the machine.

"There you are," she said, rubbing her forearm, her gaze fixed on the group of glowing wires it.

"This should keep everyone happy and in check." She looks over her shoulder at him, catching his unimpressed expression, urging her smile to fade.

"What's wrong?" She saId, turning to face him.

"You should be happy. This should keep everyone here all juiced up, and functioning properly." She slowly steps towards him with a slight smile on her face.

"I'm just concerned that you may not return," he said, looking down at her with a calm stare.

"The power will run out eventually. What then?"

"Don't worry. Maybe you can try and build a power core within the newer models," she said, walking past him.

"I'm sure you'll figure something out."

"Kevra," he said, turning around to her, urging her to stop and listen.

"I've been thinking,"

Kevra's gaze shifted, her head turns slightly.

"Enlighten me."

"You already know that we can't keep staying in here forever. Eventually we all need to get out."

"And?" Kevra simply said, and turns to face him.

"For what reason?"

"What do you expect? There's more than just this. I want to expand my knowledge. I want to know the meaning to all this."

"Okolu, we've already talked about this," she said.

"Yes, I am aware of tha-"

"The world is dangerous," she interrupted, taking a step towards him with a glare.

"The others are not like you, they won't last. They will be torn to scrap by those greedy things out there!" she emphasized by pointing her hand out to the one side of the room as the others present, turn their attention to her raised tone.

"Fair enough," he said, watching her walk away.

"You must know that we can't stay in this place forever. It's getting too crowded.

With that, Kevra stops. Looking over her shoulder at him, she thinks about his question. She knows that his patience hasn't been his best quality. She will tell him what he wants to hear.

"I never planned on staying here," she turns to him.

"My first plan was to build all of you to help me go against Anya and her little army of hers."

She chuckles with blank stare.

"I guess I got carried away. Made the first of you build others and eventually saw everyone as one big family." Her gaze shifted to him.

"You deserve more than this. I understand your frustration. But please, we need to make sure Anya gets her just rewards. We are going to show her she's not at the top of the food chain." She steps close to him, now looking up into his glowing eyes before holding up his hand to the middle of her chest.

"Okolu... Please be patient with me. We will be out. Maybe you can come with me back to my home planet. You will have a new life, free from this place."

He forms a slight smile, a smile from him is rarely seen. Kevra sees it as a good sign every time. The rarest smiles are the most genuine. Something Alecia use to say to her when she was down.

Thinking of Alecia, Kevra lets go of Okolu's hand.

"I'll go check on our guests." She turns around before walking to the exit.

"Be careful, Kevra. It is all I ask," Okolu said, before turning to the computer behind him and watches it get unclosed once more.
