While Alex being to display his telekinetic ability at this stage of his cultivation, it showed that he is indeed an alchemist. But what mattered about being an alchemist is how good and potent your creations are. So just showing that he could use telekinesis didn't show how good of an alchemist he is, just that he had the potential to be one.
