They all took heed to the warnings that the interface gave them about underestimating the dark beings, so rather than charging into the city, they wanted to leave that part for those who were more foolish than brave to test out for them.

The Phoenix royal family picked the sea terrain to defend, which was facing the western exit of the city, while the Golden royal family picked the southern exit of the city, which had a wide desert in front of it.

From a layman's point of view, it looked as if the Phoenix royal family had picked a place that wouldn't work in their favor, but those who knew and understood the nature of the flames of a Phoenix knew that this terrain was best suited for them.
