Chapter 42

"Xavier, aren't it to risky to try it on human?"

In the laboratory where we are doing more theoretically research, I asked him while typing endlessly on the keyboard.

Xavier only sits there flipping the documents of the failed results. The sound of keyboard typing and pages flipping echos in the silent room.

After some moment I stop typing. I look at him since he is not replying me. Xavier looks so restless. He got a heavy eyes bag under his eyelid. His beard have not trimmed well since he rarely have time to clean himself.

I feel bad for him since he over work himself. Xavier reach out for his coffee but his eyes just won't part of with the paper as if it was glued on it. He keep on touching the empty spaces on the left side of his desk while his coffee was on his right.

I walks towards him and push the coffee nearer to him. Xavier finally look at the cup. He realised that it was on his right. He take the cup, looking at me.

"Thanks."

Then he drink it and continues to read the document back. I was pissed off since he didn't reply me. Swiftly I take the document from him. Xavier looks so angry and he shout at me.

"What are you doing, Zachary?! Don't you see I am reading it?!! Now, GIVE ME BACK!!"

He demand at me aggressively.

"Now before I give you these, tell me the answer to my question."

"What question??" He asked me as he crosses his arm.

"You didn't listen to what I asked earlier?!"

I was surprise that he was too focus on his work until he didn't give a fck to what happen to his surrounding. Maybe if I was killed in front of him that moment, he must have not even notice my death body laying across the room.

"My God, bless my heart..."

"What?" Xavier was confused why I asked God to bless my soul in front of him.

"Xavier...I asked whether it was risky or not we are trying them on humans?"

Xavier kept silent and still like a huge rock. He sits back to his chair and took off his glasses. His brown eyes was looking so tired. He close his eyes. Xavier massaged his nose bridge between his eyes.

"I am not sure either....but I will find a new formula that could reduces the chance of dying...."

"That's crazy..... we need to stop it Xavier. We can't lose anymore life—" I suggests but I was interrupt by him.

"WE CAN'T AFFORDED TO STOP, ZACHARY! THEY ARE PUTTING THEIR HOPE HIGH ON US! HOW COULD WE STOP HERE?!!"

Xavier explode in anger as I try to stop him from continuing this research. I am stunned as this was the first time he become so angry as this.

"Xavier..."

Xavier's eyes are wide open. He then realized he should take some time for himself to cool down. So he take his cigarette and his lighter.

"Zachary, I heading outside to calm myself down.... you... can keep on with your work... I will be back after half an hour."

Xavier slowly close the door behind leaving me alone in the room. I sits down on my table. I search for my phone in my lab coat pockets and realise it was not there.

"God damn it! How could I be so careless...."

I hurry up and head towards the experiment room where I remember I last put my phone there. As I open the door, I saw Professor Jane and her husband, Professor Alex. They seems to talking to another person over the phone.

"Night, night Lucien! Sleep early okay!" Jane wave her hand to the phone.

"Dad will miss you son. Listen to your Granny okay?" Alex then take his turn to wave at the phone.

I was curious and I accidentally saw a cute little boy through the video call. I later then take my phone that's place next to their table. Both of them smile to me.

I waves them good bye and head back to the laboratory. As soon as I arrive, Xavier was there with his arm crossed. This time he looks more and more furious.

"Hey, what happen Xavier? I supposed you be in a better mood but now you are even moody. Does the your head filled with black cloud?"

I sits across him. Then I notice the latest report but this time it was not the normal report I ever sees. On the very top of it, it was written; list of government undercover spies.

"I doubt there's betrayal among ourself.... I just receive this just now and I notice there's people was spying us from the very beginning..."

Xavier flip the pages. Then he show me 2 picture that seems very familiar : it was Professor Jane and Professor Alex. I didn't think that one day they will betray us.

"So....what should we do right now?"

"Lets follow the flow shall we.... next week they are asking for holidays leave since it will be summer break soon....."

Xavier take off his glasses and wipe it with his handkerchief in his pocket.

"That moment is where we will execute them. For now we will continue as usual. I will also call my men to search his house tonight and see what they have for us...."

The next day.

"Report back sir! We found out this in his house and the information you wanted was all in here."

The man passes him a pen drive and stand there straight waiting for his next order.

Xavier rise his hand signing him to leave. He take his leave and I rush over to see what's information he have asked him to find.

"What do you asked him to find and who are them?"

I sits down in front of his desk. He plug in the pen drive into the laptop and he typing some things. Then he smirk as if he was satisfied with the information he received. Xavier turn looking at me.

"He was my well trained man and I didn't expact that he manage to get the new formula from them...."
