Chapter 44

*BOOM!!*

A huge explosion have just shaken the floor. I almost fall but luckily I hold on the wall next to me for support. Lucien came out to see what's happening.

"Rue, what happen? Why there's explosion in here?"

"I don't know but we need to hurry up! We have to find Fana and my father before leaving here."

"Warning! Warning! Please leave everything and evacuate to safety! Warning! Warning! Please leave everything and evacuate to safety!"

The siren just announced that everyone here have to evacuate as soon as possible. I quickly push Lucien in as I hear running foot step was coming nearer. I close the door and take a peak from the inside.

"Quick we need to get away from here! This place is going to explode sooner or later! Tell everyone on our team to get away from here as soon as possible." The man in lab coat runs trough the hall way and order the person next to him.

"Okay! See you then!"

Then both of them disappear from my sight. I slowly open the door and look around to make sure the way was clear.

"Lucien, we are done with the data. Now what should we do next?" Lucas waves at Lucien with a pen drive in his hand while smiling proudly.

"We need to find her and Rue's father. Rue do you have any idea where could your father would have gone to?" Lucien asked calmly.

I touch my chin and start to think where could they been.

'Where could have he been....I have come here countless time but I never saw his desk or work place here. But he always works together with Xavier....' I think to myself.

Then a lighting struck my brain.

"Follow me. I think I know where Zachary is."

I run past the corridor and turn left heading to Xavier's private lab room. The three of us runs as fast as we could. As soon we arrives, all we sees are Xavier was there covered with blood.

I was shocked. But then I saw bloods was drenching along the hall way heading towards the exit. I have a bad feeling about it and yet there's a strong feeling that's calling me to follow the blood traces. Slowly I follows the bloods stains on the floor.

*click* *clack*

*click* *clack*

The sound of my heels fills the empty hall way.

*stop—*

My eyes widen as I saw what's happening in front of me. My heart just stop beating. All of a sudden, my chest feels very tight, so suffocating....

"Zachary....."

That's the only word I can mutter as I saw him was unconscious and he was cover with blood. Fana was there crying. She was calling out for his name and he dosen't seem to responding her.

"ZACHARY!!!!"

I rush to get him. Fana steps a side to let me get closer to him. Her's face was stained with some blood, she looks very helpless with cheek drenched with tears.

"Zachary!! Zachary!!"

I call out his name to make him stay conscious. His injury was very deep and it's getting worse than it suppose to be. Zachary's eyes slowly open bit by bit. He smile gently to me.

"Rue..."

His gentle voice have breaks my heart. The tears that I have been holding back finally give up. My tears flow endlessly trough my cheek.

"Rue... father loves you a lot..." Zachary told me with his weak voice.

"Zac-, no.. father....I love you too....please don't go..."

I hold his hand and put it near to my forehead. I kneeling in front of him, begging him not to die. He smile to me gently.

"Love you.... live well for me okay....."

Then he slowly close his eyes. Zachary closes his eyes as if he was sleeping peacefully. My whole body was trembling.

Lucien kneels down and check his pulse. He turn at me with his remorseful expression.

"I am sorry Rue.... he is—"

"NO!! HE IS NOT DEAD!! HE PROMISED ME TO TAKE CARE OF US, UNTIL WE ARE OLD!!!" I shouted.

I hugs Zachary body and cry.

"He is not dead.... he is not going to break his promise, I know...."

Lucien stay silent for a few moment and turn to look at Lucas. Fana was there, starring blankly at Zachary. She looks so lifeless as if she was regret something.

"No....father....please..... come back to me...."

15 years ago.

"Rue! Look here!"

Bella snaps my picture. I was mad at Zachary because he come home late.

"Bella where's Zachary... he was late even it was your birthday..." I pouts in anger.

Bella chuckle as she saw me being so childish. She place her favourite light purple blanket covering her legs. Then she push the wheel of her wheel chair and moves towards me.

"Rue, don't be angry with father okay. By the way, it's rude to call him by his name since he already adopted us." Bella pets my head.

"Tch.."

Not long after that, the door rings.

"Look, father's home!" Bella excitedly told me.

"Yea!! Zachary's home!!" I rush to get the door.

"Rue, it's bad to call him by his name."

"Bleh!!" I stick out my tongue at her.

I open the door and saw Zachary was there, bringing some present and a box of cake.

"I am sorry for being late, Rue. And happy birthday Bella!"

Zachary pets my head and place all the things on the table. I pretend to be mad at him so I cross my arm and stomps my feet hard on the floor. I walk angrily and sits on the couch.

"What happen, Rue?" Zachary asked.

"You are late and I am mad at you. Hmph!"

Zachary chukle and gently pull my cheek, facing Bella who is ready to take my picture.

"Say cheese~"

Bella laugh lightly and give the camera to our nanny who is taking care of us for the evening.

Together we sings happy birthday to Bella. I cuts the cake for her. Our nanny take our pictures. Zachary pets Bella's head.

"Happy birthday my daughter."

"Thanks, father." Bella said with a smile.

He holds my hand with my sister and looks at both of us while kneeling.

"I promise to take care of both of you until I die." Zachary told us.

"It means you will be with us until we die?" I asked.

".....yes" He smiled.
