Chapter Twenty-Nine: Mrs.Davis

"Let's get married." She told him and he stopped typing.

He turned to face her to check on whether she was being serious or not. "Sure." He replied and gave a glance to Jace in the driver's seat. "Take us to the marriage registration office." He ordered and Clair gulped.

'I said that now I can't take it back.' She thought. Just like James ordered Jace headed towards the marriage registration office. He silently protested but reminded himself of who he is speaking to. James might be his boss and friend but he is still the future King of this country and not only that but the woman beside him will be the next Queen.

He sighed and hurried to their destination.

"By the way. Is that your disguise?" He asked. Clair rolled her eyes. "Yes, do you think it's convincing or should I switch it up?" She asked him sarcastically.

James sighed and continued with his work. She still seemed to have something against him so he decided to just stay quiet.

...

With one leg over the other Clair was sitting in the car with a marriage certificate in her hand. She stared at it since she got it. James who was next to it frowned. "Why are you staring at it as if you want to destroy?" He asked and she smiled. "You know me so well. That's exactly what I want to do." She responded.

"Even if you destroy it we will still be married." He replied. "I can always divorce." She shrugged and he chuckled at that but he didn't say anything.

Was she forgetting that she offered to get married not long ago?

Clair glanced at him. She pursed her lips and laid her head against the car window. She noticed the same cars that were behind them a while ago continue following and she frowned.

"Someone is following us."

"Sir, I think someone is following us." Both Jace and Clair said at the same time. "I know," James replied nonchalantly.

"You know? Then why are you so calm." She questioned. "Stop looking back. Just pretend that you didn't notice anything." He replied. "If they attack us you are on your own." She told him. James shook his head and continued typing.

"Do you want to get rid of them? I'm sure they came here because they realized we are together." James informed her. "Isn't it too early for them to attack?" She asked. "It's never too early it's always better for them to get rid of us as early as possible." He responded.

"What about the security cameras?" She asked. "I can handle that," Jace told her. Clair gave him a thoughtful expression.

"We are heading to my place right now so we are already far away from the city. No one will recognize you." James, I added.

She didn't know whether this was a good idea. What if they recognize her? Right now she is in the identity as Clair, not Ainara. Her hair is another problem. What if the news spread? The CEO of Star Lush going on a killing spree?

"You can stay in the car, I will deal with it." He offered. "You sound like this is an everyday thing." She commented. Jace shrugged.

"Oh, it is…"

She was surprised by that. 'Wow poor him. I would have lost my patience if I had to deal with such things regularly. Being a crown prince must be hard.' She thought.

"We are approaching a tunnel. They should attack any moment now." Jace announced. He handed James a gun and James closed the computer. Clair just watched their interactions with amusement.

'This man keeps getting more interesting every time I meet him.'

To their surprise, the car only crashed against theirs but they did not attack with any bullets. "I think they want to lure us out," Clair concluded.

What she said was correct and the men wearing masks came out from the car and another two cars appeared. They surrounded their car and they all pointed their guns towards them.

Noticing the crest in their uniform Jace furrowed his eyebrows and he tried to see it closer but he was too far away. " I don't think they are from any of our enemies," Jace told James.

"They are my mother's men," James replied with a sigh and he put his gun away. Jace groaned. He glanced at Clair feeling pitiful for her.

"You are kidding me?" She yelled and she avoided a gunshot that aimed for her. The gun passed her and destroyed the front mirror of the car. Jace's face paled and now he truly felt worried for Clair.

James grabbed her wrist and he pulled her into his embrace when another bullet came for her.

Clair gritted her teeth. "If she's your mother's men then why are they attacking? And why me?" She yelled. "She wants to see what you are capable of." He replied with another sigh.

"Capable of what, dying?" She asked sarcastically. "I will handle it." He assured her.

"Well, no sh*t! I this how the royal family welcomes people?" Her lips twitched and she pushed him away. She exited the car she took his gun along with her.

He looked at her in surprise and he had no choice but to follow behind her. The scene that met him as her easily avoiding the bullets.

Clair removed her heels and she made her way to the first guard. The first thing she did was knocking him out with the gun.

The other guards contemplated on whether to attack or not because their crowd prince had just showed up. Either way, they were here for a reason and they could not let their queen down. The leader of the group signaled the other guards to surround her and outnumber her.

Clair noticed this and she locked her eyes on him. 'Hmm, my last target.' She thought and pulled out a knife from her leg. 'I'm always prepared.'

She did not want to kill them since James mentioned that they were his mother's guards but that did not mean she would let them just kill her.

She sighed and decided to do the most of it. She could not make much movement because she was wearing a dress but she did knock them out swiftly. She was too fast for them to catch up. Despite being more than her they were nothing against her speed.

One moment she would be 5 men far but suddenly she would knock that person down and move on to the next.

One of the guards took a risk and directly attacked her. She gave him a mocking look. She avoided his punch and appeared behind him. "Your moves are….mediocre." She whispered in his ear before twisting his neck.

James froze. 'Did she kill him?' He wondered but he did not improve to stop her nor did he help her. He looked at the message on his phone and he clenched his fists in frustration. By his father's order, he could not help her and neither could Jace.
